St. Xavier’s College, a sylvan historian narrating a sublime tale of human excellence,endurance and commitment, was established at Palayamkottai in 1923 by Jesuit Fathers with an aim of empowering the marginalized youth of the southern districts of Tamil Nadu with proper education and preparing them for a happy, healthy and harmonious life. The Motto of the collegeis Veritate Lumen et Vita (Light and Life through Truth). It is a grant–in–aid institution recognized by the UGC Act under sections 2(f) and 12(B). The Madras University recognized St. Xavier’s College as the First Grade College in 1925 on the basis of its academic achievement. The college was affiliated to the Madurai Kamaraj University in 1966. In recognition of its service and excellence, the college was granted autonomy in 1987. The college was affiliated to the Manonmaniam Sundaranar University in 1990. The UGC conferred the status of College with Potential for Excellence on St. Xavier’s College in September 2004 and extended the status in 2010 and 2014. The Department of Biotechnology, Government of India, selected St. Xavier’s College under “Star College Scheme” in 2014 and for the second time in 2017.
The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) accredited St. Xavier’s College at Five Star Level in April 2000 and at “A” Grade in 2006. In 2012 the College was accredited at “A” Grade with a CGPA of 3.50. The NAAC Peer Team visited the College on 26th and 27th August 2019 for the fourth cycle and accredited the College at “A++” Grade with a CGPA of 3.66 out of 4.00. This is a significant milestone in the history of St. Xavier’s College.
Acclaimed as a premier institution for higher learning, the college offers 20 UG programmes, 15 PG programmes, and 12 Research programmes to students. Besides these programme options, 127 extra credit /add-on courses are offered. In order to keep pace with the developments in the fast changing global scenario, ICT-enabled pedagogic strategies have been introduced, enriching the learning experiences of students. The Placement Cell conducts training programmes for students and arranges job fair in collaboration with industries. INDECO, an inter-departmental cultural competition which promotes team work, is a great source of inspiration for students. Academic Festival, an inter-collegiate competition, is organized every year by all the departments. The College has got a long tradition of extending counselling to students. There are four counsellors in the College to offer personal guidance to students in the cultivation of emotional, moral and social virtues. We have already implemented Breakfast Scheme and Mid-Day Meals Scheme for the financially disadvantaged students.

Courses Offered Explore by Level
The college runs on 2 shifts and the courses offered and streams therein change based on the shift. The biggest difference between the shifts is that Shift-1 is aided, implying students in shift-1 receive grants for their education. Shift-2 offers a broader range of courses but is self-financed which means the students do not receive any aid.
In Shift-1, SXC offers UG, PG, M.Phil and PhD courses in various specializations.
In the 2nd shift UG, PG, M.Phil, Certificate, Diploma and PG Diploma courses are offered in multiple specializations.
Admission to most courses is on merit-basis and does not require any admission test.
Candidates applying for MCA must appear for TANCET and MBA aspirants must appear for TANCET, XAT, CAT, MAT or GMAT, etc.

Fill in the form with the following details such as personal details (Name, Date of Birth, etc.), community certificate details, parent’s information, address details, details about Higher Secondary Education, payment details for the application fee.
Select the degree you are applying for, select between Shift1 and Shift 2. Fill in educational details.
Pay the application fee through an online payment.

M.C.A Course: INR 100
After this, take a print out of the application form and stick a passport-sized photo to it.
Submit it to the college office or send it by post addressed to Rev. Fr. Principal, St. Xavier’s College, Palayamkottai – 627 002.
Note: The application must be submitted within 10 days of the result declaration of +2, otherwise, it will be treated as a late application.
The selected candidates need to attend the interview on the date given to them accompanied by their parent/guardian. Candidates must also carry all original documents to the interview.
