About 

Tamil Nadu National Law University (TNNLU), commonly known as TNNLU, is a state National Law University located in Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu. The university was established by the Government of Tamil Nadu through Act No. 9 of 2012 with the objective of providing quality legal education at the global level. The foundation stone was laid on 13 February 2012, and the university commenced functioning from the academic year 2013–14. TNNLU aims to develop competent legal professionals and researchers with strong knowledge of law, advocacy, legal services, legislation, law reform and social justice.

TNNLU is situated at Dindigul Main Road, Navalurkuttappattu, Tiruchirappalli – 620027, Tamil Nadu. The university is located on approximately 25 acres of campus and is around 13 km from Tiruchirappalli Central Bus Stand and Railway Station. The campus is accessible by government and private buses from the major bus stands of Tiruchirappalli. Admission to Tamil Nadu National Law University is primarily conducted through the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT). Candidates seeking admission to the five-year B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) and B.Com. LL.B. (Hons.) programmes must appear for CLAT and participate in the applicable CLAT counselling and seat-allotment process. Candidates must meet the prescribed 10+2 eligibility requirements and satisfy applicable reservation and category conditions. For the LL.M. Business Law programme, candidates must possess the required law degree and apply through the CLAT-based admission process. After selection, candidates must complete document verification, submit the required certificates and pay the prescribed fees within the stipulated deadline. TNNLU may also issue separate notifications for admission against vacant seats when seats remain available after the regular counselling process.

Admission Criteria:

Admission Process

The university offers a three years undergraduate in LL.B. (Hons.) with a total number of 120 seats. The university also runs a five year integrated course in LL.B. (Hons.). with BA, BBA, BCA and B.Com which has 548 seats in total. Candidates for all the UG courses will be selected based on their marks in the qualifying examination. Application process starts generally in the month of June every year.

For admission in undergraduate course, the minimum marks required in the qualifying exam is 55% for SC/ ST/ NRI candidates and 60% for general candidates. For admission in integrated courses, the minimum marks in the qualifying exam required is 60% for SC/ ST candidates and 70% for general candidates.

Eligibility 

• Candidates should have 10+2 or 3 years Diploma/ Polytechnic with at least 70% in aggregate from a recognised institution
  
• SC/ST candidates must have 60% in the aggregate of all subjects
  
• NRI candidates should have at least 70% in the qualifying examination
  
• Candidates applying for B.Com.LL.B.[Hons.] must have studied Commerce or equivalent subject related to Commerce in the Higher Secondary Examination
  
• Candidates seeking admission to the B.C.A.LL.B.[Hons.] programme must’ve Computer Science or an equivalent subject in the Higher Secondary Examination
  
• 6.15% of the total seats have been earmarked for NRI candidates

LLB Eligibility 

• General/OBC Candidates: Minimum 60% in graduation from a recognized university.
  
• SC/ST Candidates: Minimum 55% in graduation from a recognized university.

Year Course (Constitutional Law, Business Law, Criminal Law, International Law, Human Rights Law, Intellectual Property Rights, Environmental Law, Cyber Law, Family Law)

Admission Process

• The University runs two years post-graduation course LL.M. degree in nine different specialisations with an intake capacity of 20 per specialization.
  
• Admission to the LL.M course in Tamil Nadu Dr. Ambedkar Law University is done on the basis of marks obtained in the qualifying exam. Application process generally starts in the month of June every year. Candidates who have successfully completed a three year / five year under-graduate degree course in Law with minimum of 45% marks under new regulation or 40% under old regulation are eligible to apply.
  

Eligibility

Pass in B.L/L.L.B either 5 or 3 years with 45% marks under new regulation or 40% under old regulation.

Ph.D., 

Admission Process

The University offers full time as well as part time course in Ph.D. The minimum duration of the Ph.D. full time programme is 2 years and the maximum period is 5 years. The minimum duration of the Ph.D. part time programme is 3 years and the maximum period is 6 years.
For admission in part time course, the candidates who meet the eligibility should possess the following requirements:

• In the case of Judges, who have put in not less than 5 years of regular service as Judicial Officers and attended seminars and presented at least 2 Papers.
  
• In the case of teachers who have put in 1 year of full-time regular service in the University or in any of the affiliated Colleges of this University.
  
• In the case of lawyers and others, those who are working in the Research Institutions / Research Departments connected with Law, should have put in at least 5 years of professional experience and presented at least two papers in Seminars and Conferences. Selection is done on the basis of Entrance test and Interview conducted by TNDALU.

Eligibility

• Master of Laws Degree with 55% marks in aggregate.
• Entrance test and Interview conducted by TNDALU.

TNNLU provides a Financial Assistance Scheme under which eligible students may receive full or partial waiver of fees and other charges based on their family's financial circumstances. The university also states that SC and ST students from Tamil Nadu are exempted from tuition fees, with the tuition component borne by the Government of Tamil Nadu, subject to applicable rules. Eligible students can also apply for scholarships offered by the Government of India and their respective state governments.

Students can also pursue careers in litigation, corporate law, legal consultancy, judicial services, academia, research, public policy and government organizations.
