About Tamil Nadu National Law University

Tamil Nadu National Law University (TNNLU) was established by the Government of Tamil Nadu by an Act of State Legislature (Act No. 9 of 2012) to provide quality legal education at the global level. TNNLU is the brainchild of the former Hon'ble Chief Minister Dr. J Jayalalithaa who laid its foundation stone on 13th February 2012.

TNNLU is located on 25 acre campus in the Tiruchirappalli-Dindigul NH 45, at Navalurkuttappattu Village, about 12 kilometers from Tiruchirappalli Railway Junction / Central Bus Stand.

Tiruchirappalli, known as Rock Fort City, is well connected by road, rail and air. Trichy has daily flights from Chennai, Bangalore, Mumbai and Kochi. Madurai, a well-connected airport, is an hour and a half by road from TNNLU.

TNNLU is located about 10 kilometers from District and Sessions Court and other Sub-ordinate Courts, thus facilitating easy and effective interaction between the TNNLU and the Bar.

TNNLU has been established with the following laudable objectives:

1.   To advance and disseminate learning and knowledge of the law and legal processes and their role in national development;

2.   To develop in the students and research scholars a sense of responsibility to serve society in the field of law by developing skills with regard to advocacy, legal services, legislation, law reforms and the like;

3.   To organize lectures, seminars, symposia and conferences to promote legal knowledge and to make law and legal processes as efficient instruments of social development;

4.   To hold examinations and confer degrees and other academic distinctions and to do all such things as are incidental, necessary or conducive to the attainment of all or any of the objectives of the University.

TNNLU commenced its functioning from the academic year 2013-2014. The TNNLU offers two undergraduate programmes, viz., B.A. LL.B., (Hons.) and B.Com. LL.B., (Hons.). The admission to the courses is on the basis of marks scored in the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT).

Extensive infrastructural facilities, with separate buildings for Administration, Academic activities, Examination, Library and Halls of Residence for Men and Women, auditorium, staff quarters and Guest House are available on the campus.

The University Grants Commission has included TNNLU in the approved list of Universities. The Bar Council of India has granted recognition to TNNLU as a Center for Legal Education. UGC has included TNNLU under section 12(B) of the UGC Act 1956, which will enable TNNLU to apply for grants from UGC and other Central Government Funding Agencies TNNLU is a member of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).

TNNLU is a member of the Shastri Indo- Canadian Institute and it is a permanent member of the Indian Academy of Social Sciences. TNNLU is also an emplannled institution with the Competition Commission of India.

TNNLU Trichy Admission Process :

NLU Trichy Admissions: Tamil Nadu National Law University offers admission to full-time undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programmes. TNNLU admission to the B.Com and B.A. L.L.B Hons is done based on the candidate’s performance in the CLAT UG entrance exam, followed by the counselling process. For NLU Trichy admission to the L.L.M programme, candidates must appear for the CLAT PG entrance exam and meet the TNNLU cutoff, followed by the CLAT counselling process. TNNLU Ph.D admission is done based on the marks obtained by candidates in the entrance test, followed by an interview conducted by the university. 

NLU Trichy Application Process

·         Candidates can visit the official CLAT website and check the eligibility criteria.

·         Eligible candidates can Click on the ‘Apply Online’ tab and fill out the application form.

·         Fill in and upload all required details in the application form and submit it.

·         Pay the application fee of Rs. 4,000 for candidates from the general category (Rs. 3,500 for the reserved category).

·         Payment can be done through net banking /Debit card/ Credit Card.

NLU Trichy UG Admissions 2024

Tamil Nadu National Law University offers two undergraduate programmes. TNNLU UG courses include B.Com and B.A. L.L.B Hons. The course duration of the UG programmes is 5 years.

·         For NLU Trichy UG admission, candidates are required to meet the TNNLU eligibility criteria.

·         Candidates who meet the eligibility criteria must register and sit for the CLAT UG entrance exam.

·         Candidates who exceed the CLAT cutoff are required to participate in the CLAT counselling process.

·         Admissions to undergraduate programmes are granted based on the candidate’s scores in the CLAT.

·         Final admission is confirmed after document verification and payment of the TNNLU admission fee.

NLU Trichy L.L.M Admissions 2024

Tamil Nadu National Law University offers three postgraduate programmes. The TNNLU PG courses offered are LLM Corporate and Securities Law, L.L.M Intellectual Property Law and LLM Natural Resources Law. The course duration of the L.L.M programme is 1 year.

·         First, candidates have to meet the eligibility criteria for TNNLU PG admission.

·         Candidates must register and apply for the CLAT PG entrance exam.

·         After the CLAT PG results are announced, a cutoff is determined.

·         Candidates who meet or exceed the CLAT cutoff are invited to participate in the CLAT counselling process.

·         Admissions are granted based solely on the scores obtained in the CLAT PG.

·         Final admission is confirmed after document verification and payment of the TNNLU admission fee.

Internships and Placements Committee, TNNLU

The Internships and Placements Committee of TNNLU (IPC) comprises of the Dean of Internships and Placements and a group of dedicated and committed student members who aim to facilitate internship and placement opportunities for the student community, amongst other things. Given the intensity and significance of the work, the IPC has been subdivided into 6 sub-committees i.e., Communications, Drafting, Data Management, Event Management, Email Maintenance, and Brochure Management Teams. Each team has been handpicked to increase efficiency in facilitating career opportunities for the student community.
The IPC, besides facilitating numerous internship and placement opportunities, has also initiated a bi-monthly “Opportunities Ahead” series to provide career guidance for our students by facilitating
interactions between industry experts in and out of the legal field. In the past, we’ve had speakers from diverse domains such as legal tech, civil services, judicial services, litigation, academia, corporate law, music & arts, etc.
The IPC is also responsible for conducting the yearly internship evaluation. In this regard, the Committee has drafted and passed the Mandatory Internship Evaluation Regulations of TNNLU, 2021 which requires students to prepare and submit an Internship diary in the prescribed format. Internships

NLU Trichy Scholarship

Tamil Nadu National Law University (TNNLU), Tiruchirappalli offers financial assistance to meritorious students. Limited/need-based scholarships are available to students under the TNNLU Scholarship Policy. Students from Tamil Nadu belonging to the category of SC/ST and first-generation graduates may also apply for government-funded scholarships. The Tamil Nadu National Law University Financial Assistance Scheme offers a full or partial waiver of fees and charges for the entire programme of study or part of such programme. 

To avail NLU Trichy scholarships, candidates must meet the eligibility requirements. Students who qualify for the Tamil Nadu National Law University Financial Assistance Scheme will be chosen solely based on the financial condition of their families.
