The Government of Tamil Nadu enacted Act No.(33) of 2008 to provide for the establishment and incorporation of Teachers Education University in the State of Tamil Nadu for promoting excellence in teachers education. Further the Act came into effect from 1.7.2008 by a Gazette Notification issued in G.O.M.S.256, Higher Education (K2) Department, dated 25.6.2008.This University is unique in nature relatively to the other Universities since its assignment is to promote excellence in teacher education and produce dynamic and smart teachers for the benefit of the society and the nation at large.

Tamil Nadu Teachers Education University is a state university established by the Govt. of Tamil Nadu for promoting the excellence in teacher’s education. It is the only one of its kind in the country. The main object of the university is to provide good training and a proper degree of the teachers; so that they can build up better students. There are 657 TNTEU Affiliated Colleges that are offering Bachelor of Education degree Course.

The courses offered by TNTEU include B.Ed, M.Ed, and research programs in the field of education. The university provides the Rajiv Gandhi National Fellowship Scholarship for SC/ ST Candidates. Admission to the university is both merit and entrance-based. Students are shortlisted on the basis of mask obtained either in the previous qualifying examination or in the entrance exam conducted by the university.

 Admission Procedure

Tamil Nadu Teachers Education University admission is available for undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral programmes to interested candidates. The TNTEU Chennai admission process for undergraduate and postgraduate programmes is based on performance on the qualifying examination, whereas candidates for doctoral programmes must have to appear in an entrance exam at the university level, which is followed by an interview. Placement

The TNTEU Chennai placement cell assists with campus placement so that students get various job opportunities. Students receive extensive training to improve their abilities and develop into competent individuals capable of working in the business sector. Recruiters at the placement division of TNTEU Chennai invite the students to a pre-placement discussion on a set date to inform them of the basic policies and work environment, give them an insight into the company, and answer their questions. Following the pre-placement lecture, resumes of registered candidates are shortlisted, and exams such as aptitude tests, technical tests, and others are administered to assess the student's knowledge and IQ under the TNTEU Chennai placement process.

Scholarship

The B.Ed program at this college was a one-year course with a total fee of 85,000 INR, which covered tuition, course, exam, and lab fees. The payment could be split into two terms, with the first installment being 54,000 INR. Scholarships are available specifically for SC/ST students, including the Rajiv Gandhi National Fellowship. Additionally, scholarships are awarded based on entrance exam scores, and students have the option to apply for bank loans.

Tamil Nadu Teachers Education University Library was established in 2008. It has 14,455 Volumes of Text and Reference Books on education and its related field. The library subscribes 65 National and International Journals and 4 leading newspapers. The library is following the Open Access System and provides its service to meet the requirements of M.Ed. students, M.Phil. and Ph.D. scholars, teaching and non-teaching staff members of the university.
