Thangavelu Engineering College, an affiliated institute in Chennai, was founded in Salem in the year 1995 by Ponniamman Educational Trust and the TJ Educational Trust by the chairman Mr. K.V. Thangkabalu. After a few years the college was moved to Chennai, in the location of Karapakkam in Rajiv Gandhi Salai. With the economy opening up to global competition, the demand for highly qualified and trained engineering, management and computer graduates is on the rise. The Trust founded Thangavelu Engineering College and Thangavelu College of Science and Management with the objective of turning out prospective executives in technical and management comparable with the best in the country. The main purpose of the college was to impart technical education with special focus on the underprivileged sections of society with the objective of producing high quality Engineers and Technocrats.
Three colleges of the Group effectively reflect the philosophy of the two Trusts. Every aspect of the colleges has been designed in a manner as to achieve the objectives of the Group in terms of Superlative Academic Standards and the lofty goals of the management. The Trust is also engaged in philanthropic activity, offering scholarships to the needy and deserving students every year and also uplifts physically handicapped students by giving them all possible assistance.
Thangavelu Engineering College, Chennai is situated amidst 10 acres of greenery on Rajiv Gandhi Salai, Old Mahabalipuram Road, Karapakkam, Chennai, Tamil Nadu. TEC can be reached by various modes of transportation. Taramani Railway Station, which is 8 km away would take roughly 20 minutes by cab or auto. Kannagi Nagar Bus Stop, the closest bus stop, is 2.8 kilometres away and will take about 9 minutes. Chennai International Airport is just a17 km drive to the campus which would take about 30 minutes by road. This campus also contains three colleges named T.J Institute of Technology, and DaVinci School of Design and Architecture.
Thangavelu Engineering College is approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and recognised by the Government of Tamilnadu. The college is affiliated to Anna University, Chennai.
TEC offers Bachelor's degrees in Engineering – BE/BTech, and Master's degrees in Engineering, Computers and Business – ME, MCA, MBA. In order to get admission to PG and UG programs, candidates must apply online for TANCET and TNEA respectively. The students who belong to the underprivileged category are offered scholarships and tuition fee concessions by the college.
Thangavelu Engineering College provides all necessary Instrastructural Facilities which include Central Library, Hi-tech Computer Laboratories, Wi-fi, Canteen, Transportation, Health Centre, NSS, YRC, Placement Training and Assistance.
TEC has a separate department for Training & Placement, which works relentlessly to create job options for students. It has agreements in place with top Training Organizations to deliver Communication, Soft skills, and Technical Training to students. The students receive training on the most recent technologies in their second and third years, earning at least two certifications.
