About The Tamil Nadu Dr.Ambedkar Law University
The Government of Tamil Nadu by an Act of State Legislature [Act No.43 of 1997] established the Tamil Nadu Dr.Ambedkar Law University for the advancement and dissemination of knowledge in learning, teaching and research in the field of law. His Excellency Shri. K.R. Narayanan, then President of India inaugurated it on September 20, 1997 in the presence of Dr.Kalaignar Karunanidhi, then Chief Minister of Tamilnadu and the University started from October 3, 1997 onwards. The University was named after the Architect of the Indian Constitution Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. The University is recognized by the Bar Council of India ( BCI ) and University Grants Commission ( UGC ) ( Sec. 2f and 12b of the UGC Act. ). The University is also a member of the Association of Indian Universities ( AIU ), Association of Common Wealth Universities, U.K. and Indian Institute of Public Administration, New Delhi. This University is functioning as Nodal Agency of the Government to uplift the legal education in the State of Tamil Nadu.The University has been accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with B++ grade in September 2022.
The University is the first full-fledged sui generis affiliating Law University in the country; it is unique among all the Law Universities in the Country. It offers Legal Education through this University and its affiliated colleges in the State and the University is the first of its kind not only in the country but also in South Asia. The University offers legal education at its campus as well as through fifteen affiliated government law colleges in the state of Tamil Nadu located at Chennai, Madurai,Trichy,Coimbatore,Tirunelveli,PattaraiPerambudur,Pudupakkam,Chengalpattu,Villupuram,Dharmapuri,Ramanathapuram,Vellore, Theni, Namakkal, Salem and Karaikudi. In addition to the Government Law Colleges, University offers legal education through nine private law colleges located in the different parts of Tamil Nadu. The School of Excellence in Law was established by the University in the year 2002 at its campus has been modeled on the lines of other National Law Schools in the country and offers three year as well as five year integrated undergraduate courses in Law. The University has a Postgraduate and Research Centre, which offers Master of Law Degree Courses in eleven different specializations, doctoral programme as well as organizing research in diverse areas of Law.
Multidisciplinary approach to the study of law is gradually emerging as the need of the hour. TNDALU has adequate infrastructural facilities to provide the perfect ambience for interdisciplinary studies in law, in its true sense. University not only imbibed with multidisciplinary approach to the legal studies and research but it is making genuine efforts to disseminate such approach to both the privileged and underprivileged learners and researchers of law and jurisprudence. It is striving towards imparting quality legal education to the students including the students who are from poor, oppressed, downtrodden and backward communities of the society. The mission of the University is to equip the students with critical, analytical and applied skills and also to make both transactional and litigating lawyers. The School of Excellence in Law of TNDALU has been following the interdisciplinary approach in teaching, which is supported by its domain-expert faculty, state- of-the art infrastructure, international quality teaching pedagogies, special lectures by legal experts, and excellent nurturing environment for learning and thinking.
The University strongly promotes innovation led research culture supporting the entire student community to publish research papers in SCOPUS/ Web of Science indexed Journals and UGC Care Journals. A strong Academia Industry Interface has been developed for training and placement of students. ADMISSION PROCESS :
The Tamil Nadu Dr. Ambedkar Law University (TNDALU) was inaugurated by Thiru K.R. Narayanan, President of India on September 20th, 1997 which at present offers various degree courses in field of law through seven affiliated colleges.
The university offers undergraduate, integrated, post-graduation and Ph.D level law courses. For Ph.D, both full time as well as part time course are available. Additionally, the University also offers distance education programmes in PG Diploma, Master of Corporate Laws (M.C.L.) and certificate course in documentation. TNDALU LLB & Integrated Program Admission 2023
The university offers a three years undergraduate in LL.B. (Hons.) with a total number of 120 seats. The university also runs a five year integrated course in LL.B. (Hons.). with BA, BBA, BCA and B.Com which has 548 seats in total. Candidates for all the UG courses will be selected based on their marks in the qualifying examination. Application process starts generally in the month of June every year.
For admission in undergraduate course, the minimum marks required in the qualifying exam is 55% for SC/ ST/ NRI candidates and 60% for general candidates. For admission in integrated courses, the minimum marks in the qualifying exam required is 60% for SC/ ST candidates and 70% for general candidates
- There is no age limit for admission in undergraduate graduates for both SC/ST and general candidates.
- There is no age limit for admission in the integrated courses for ST/SC but the general candidates need to be maximum 21 years as on 1st June.
- There is a concession of fees applicable for SC (O)/SC (A)/ST candidates belonging to Tamil Nadu.
- 15% of seats in all the courses are reserved for the NRI candidates.
- 4% of seats in B.A.LL.B.[Hons.] and B.B.A.LL.B. [Hons.] have been allotted to the Higher Secondary Courses (+2) vocational stream candidates.
- The applicants who have completed 10+2 or graduation/post-graduation through Open University system directly without having any basic qualification are not eligible for UG admission.
TNDALU LLM Admission 2023
The University runs two years post-graduation course LL.M. degree in nine different specialisations with an intake capacity of 20 per specialization.
Admission to the LL.M course in Tamil Nadu Dr. Ambedkar Law University is done on the basis of marks obtained in the qualifying exam. Application process generally starts in the month of June every year. Candidates who have successfully completed a three year / five year under-graduate degree course in Law with minimum of 45% marks under new regulation or 40% under old regulation are eligible to apply.

- Applications can be obtained in person or by post from the “The Chairman, Law Admissions Tamil Nadu Dr. Ambedkar Law University, ‘Poompozhil’, No.5, Dr. D.G.S. Dhinakaran Salai, Chennai – 600 028 by paying prescribed fees at any branch of Indian Bank.
- Candidates seeking application form by post need to send a requisition letter, mentioning the course to which they are willing to apply, along with requisite fee (Challan), to the Registrar.
- The Challan can be downloaded from the University website. Application processing fee paid through Cash/Demand Draft/Money Order/Cheque/Bank Pay Order etc., will not be accepted.
- Candidates can also apply online through official website by clicking on Online Admission.
- Register as a new candidate and then login with username and password.
- Choose a degree, make the payment online and then fill the application carefully.
- Submit the application.
TNDALU Chennai Placements
TNDALU Placement
Tamilnadu Dr Ambedkar Law University, Chennai has a training and placement cell to organise the placement procedure for the students. Students are also provided training programmes on personality development and communication skills and help them prepare better for the TNDALU placement process. The institute also makes sure that they can help most of the students getting placed into various companies by helping them in every possible way. TNDALU Chennai also conducts mock tests and practice session classes on Aptitude, Quantitative Ability, Logical and Reasoning to make students practice and get better before appearing for the final Interview and Written Test. A detailed description of the whole TNDALU placement procedure followed by the Training & Placement cell are mentioned below.
Invitation- The T&P cell of TNDALU coordinates with the recruitment companies and sends an annexure to those companies and the recruiters in return need to fill all necessary information in the annexure. The Training and Placement Cell then fixes their dates with various recruiters based on the salary packages and other eligibility criteria offered by the recruitment companies.
Registration- Students need to register themselves with the T&P cell for the placement drive along with all required documents and students satisfying all eligibility criteria will be asked to proceed further for the TNDALU placement process.
Slot-Allocation- Recruiters will then fix dates to visit the campus for conducting the TNDALU placement process via various steps including a written test, group discussion and interview.
Pre-Placement Talk- Students of TNDALU are given pre-placement talks by different recruiting companies to make them aware of the policies, roles and job profiles offered by them.
Written Test- Students of the institute also need to appear and qualify a written test classified into different sections including Quantitative aptitude, Logical and Reasoning ability, English competency etc to test the skills and basic knowledge of students.
Group Discussion- Students of TNDALU Chennai who will qualify the written test also need to qualify Group Discussion on topics decided by the recruiters to judge the communication and speaking skills of students.
Interview- After clearing the GD round, students also need to go through various rounds of Interview namely Technical Interview and HR Interview conducted by various recruiting companies to test the technical knowledge, communication skills and confidence of students.
- Final Selection- Students who will qualify all rounds of tests and interviews, are then offered job offers and salary packages depending on their performance and overall scores in their academics.

The Tamilnadu Dr Ambedkar Law University, Chennai offers various infrastructural facilities for students, staff and faculty on campus. The TNDALU Chennai facilities are well-structured and well-maintained on campus. The TNDALU facilities include a separate accommodation, a cafeteria that serves hygienic and healthy food for students and employees on campus, and well-structured classrooms. The TNDALU Chennai facilities include an auditorium which is used to conduct seminars and events, moot court which is used for practice. The TNDALU Chennai facilities include sports which include indoor and outdoor games.

The library is the heart of any academic institution and plays a key role in all academic activities and more so in law institutions as well as in law firms. Keeping in this mind, the library has been planned and is being developed by a team of qualified professional library staff and guided by the Library Council. It has a collection of over 19,000 volumes covering a wide range of general and special law subjects consisting of textbooks, reference books, back volumes of journals and reports etc. The library has adopted an open access system so as to facilitate readers to have easy access and retrieval of library and information resources. To assist the students and research scholars in locating literature as well as information in their areas of research, general reference, current awareness, and computerized catalog have been introduced.
