About the University

The Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu established an University exclusively for Music and Fine Arts so as to preserve, foster, popularise, promote the traditional system of Indian Music, Performing Arts and Fine Arts practised in Tamil Nadu, viz., The Tamil Nadu Dr.J Jayalalithaa Music and Fine Arts University. This is the unique university which has music, fine arts and sculpture, first of its kind in India. The Hon’ble Chief Minister is the Chancellor of this University. The Hon’ble Minister for Tamil Development, Culture and Archaeology is the Pro – Chancellor. The University introduces Postgraduate courses in Vocal, Veena, Violin, Mridangam, Nagaswaram, Bharathanatyam and Postgraduate course in Painting and Visual Communication Design from the academic year 2014-2015.

Mission of the University
We strive for the development of music and fine arts and for the furtherance of the advancement of learning and prosecution of research, documentation, publishing of audio and video recording, popularizing of all branches of music, fine arts and performing arts in the State of Tamil Nadu.

Location
The Tamil Nadu Dr.J Jayalalithaa Music and Fine Arts University is presently located in the campus of the Tamil Nadu Government Music College, Dr.DGS Dinakaran Salai, Chennai-600 028, on the banks of the Adyar river.

Admission Procedure

The Tamil Nadu Dr. J. Jayalalithaa Music and Arts University Qualifications for Admission

Candidates must fulfill the requirements for admission to TNDMJMU for the program they desire to enroll in. The following common prerequisites apply to both undergraduate and graduate programs:

Courses for Undergraduates

Candidates must have passed the 10+2 exam or an equivalent exam from a recognized board to be considered.

They needed to have passed their qualifying exam with at least 50% of the possible points.

They have to take the TNDMJMU entrance exam and obtain the necessary minimum score to pass.

Graduate Programs

Candidates must have earned a bachelor's degree from an accredited university in the relevant discipline.

They needed to have passed their qualifying exam with at least 50% of the possible points.

The Tamil Nadu Dr. J. Jayalalithaa Music and Arts University Application Procedure

The following steps are commonly included in the TNDMJMU admissions process:

Application: Candidates must complete and submit the online application form found on the university's website before the cutoff date.

Exam: Applicants must show up for the TNDMJMU admission exam on the designated date and time.

Merit List: Based on a candidate's performance on the admission exam, the university will publish a merit list.

Counseling: Shortlisted candidates must participate in the university's counseling procedure and select their desired course.

Conferment of Awards
The Tamil Nadu Eyal Isai Nataka Manram confers 'Kalaimamani' awards to felicitate the famous artistes who are serving in a commendable manner in the field of Eyal, Isai, Natakam, Natyam, Cinema, Isai Natakam, Folk arts, Television and related arts. So for, 1924 artistes have been honoured. Conferment of All India level awards for the artistes who have served for the cause of development of different arts in the name of 'Bharathi', 'M.S.Subbulakshmi' and 'Balasaraswathi' .

Welfare Schemes
Marriage Assistance
A registered folk artiste member who has renewed his / her membership properly, a sum of Rs.5,000/- is provided as assistance to meet the marriage expenses of the Folk artiste / Son / Daughter (only two times). To avail this, the registered member has to submit the application form along with copy of Identity card, Marriage Invitation, Photos of couple taken during marriage, a certificate issued by the Village Administrative Officer stating that the member has not availed this benefit from any other scheme .

Schemes implemented by Tamil Nadu Jawahar Siruvar Manram
District / State Level Art Competitions
To encourage the artistic talents among the students, competitions are being conducted in the field of Vocal, Bharathanatyam, Folk Dance and Drawing at the District level for the children in the age group of 5-8 years, 9-12 years and 13-16 years. The winners are awarded with prizes and certificates. At the end of the District level competitions, a State level cultural competition among the District level first prize winners in the category of 9-12 years, 13-16 years age groups are being conducted.

A state level cultural competition among the first prize winners of District level competition is being organised in any one of the cities of Tamil Nadu. In this State level competition, the first prize of Rs.10,000/- each to 8 students, the second prize of Rs.7,500/- each to 8 students and third prize of Rs.5,000/- each to 8 students i.e. a cash award worth of Rs.1,80,000/- with medals and certificates will be distributed to 24 students every year and participation certificates will be distributed to all the participants who participate in the competition from all over Tamil Nadu.

Scheme of conferring ‘Kalaichemmal’ awards
With a view to encourage the eminent artists in the field of Paintings and Sculptures in recognition of their meritorious service in the field of Traditional Art and Contemporary Art, 'Kalaichemmal' awards are conferred on them by the Government of Tamil Nadu. The Kalaichemmal awardees are given a citation and a cash award of Rs.1,00,000/-. So far, 21 eminent artists from Traditional art forms and 52 eminent artists from Contemporary art forms have been conferred with this title.
