About College of Engineering, Guindy (CEG)
The College of Engineering, Guindy, also known as CEG, is Asia's oldest Technical Institution and is one of the Top Engineering colleges in the country. Located in Chennai, CEG began as a School of Survey, later evolving into a college in 1859 under the Madras University. In 1978, with the establishment of Anna University, CEG became one of its constituent colleges and remains affiliated with it to this day. College of Engineering Guindy is a public institute.
The Anna University, which is of the affiliated type, is a member of the Association of Indian Universities, the Association of Commonwealth Universities and Partner of UNESCO International Center for Engineering Education (UICEE). UGC has accredited Anna University with Five Star Status in 2002 which is the highest rating. With proven capabilities both in Academic and Research areas, Anna University was able to receive this honour for a period of five years for excellence in Technical Education.
Under Tamil Nadu State Government ownership, CEG covers around 223 acres of land amidst Green surroundings, right in the center of Chennai. The address is 12, Sardar Patel Rd, Anna University, Guindy, Chennai, Tamil Nadu. It serves as the main campus of Anna University.
The College of Engineering, Guindy is part of Anna University, which has been accredited by the University Grants Commission (UGC) with five-star status. The UGC has also recommended that the four flagship campuses of Anna University, including CEG, be recognized as an Institute of Eminence. However, the Government of Tamil Nadu rejected the offer, fearing a loss of reservations for candidates from backward castes.

Guindy offers a variety of UG and PG Engineering courses with specializations such as Civil Engineering, Geo-Informatics, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, and others including 10 UG (regular), 2 UG (Tamil Medium), 4 UG (self-supporting), 3 UG (part-time), 34 PG (regular), 20 PG (self-supporting) and 3 PG (part-time) courses. Apart from a range ofB.E/B.Tech courses under various specializations, the college also offers other PG Courses such as MBA, MCA, M.E., M.Sc. M.Tech., M.S. by Research and Ph.D. programs. CEG Guindy has 16 Departments, 6 University Affiliated Centers, and 12 Research Centers where research programs are offered. The admissions to these programs are on basis of Merit and relevant Entrance Exams. The accepted exams include TNEA Counselling, TANCET, GATE, etc.
College of Engineering, Guindy provides state-of-the-art facilities like well-stocked Libraries, Laboratories with all technical equipment, Computer Center, and well-maintained Hostels. The college has 16 Hostels which provide accommodation to over 3,500 undergraduates and postgraduates. Separate hostels are available for international students and exchange students. Hostel messes are located in central halls.
Moreover many Student Centres have been placed in the college to address all the needs of students. These include the SC/ST cell, Center for Professional Development Education, Center for International Affairs, Health Centre, Center for Women Empowerment and the Student Affairs.

Admission Procedure:
B.E./B.Tech programs, candidates need to have passed 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (PCM) with a minimum of 45% marks (40% for reserved categories). For M.E./M.Tech programs, MBA and MCA Candidates need to appear for TANCET and go through the counselling process. M.Sc, Integrated M.Sc, and M.Phil Admission is through an entrance examination followed by a counselling round conducted by Anna University.

Admission Process:
- TNEA Application Form: Eligible candidates must first fill out the TNEA application form online, providing necessary details about their 10+2 qualifications and other required information.
- TNEA Cutoff: Candidates must meet the CEG Guindy TNEA cutoff to be considered for the admission process. The cutoff is based on the marks obtained in the 10+2 examination and varies each year.
- Rank List: After evaluating the applications, the TNEA rank list will be published. Candidates whose names appear on the rank list are eligible to participate in the TNEA counseling process.
- TNEA Counseling: During the counseling process, candidates will be allocated seats based on their rank, eligibility, and available seats at CEG Guindy. Seat allotment is done according to the merit and category-based reservation policy.
- Document Verification & Fee Payment: After the seat allotment, candidates must undergo document verification at the counseling center. Once the verification is complete, candidates will be required to pay the college fees as per the guidelines to confirm their admission.
Eligibility:
- Candidates must have passed the Higher Secondary Examination (10+2) or an equivalent examination from a recognized board with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as core subjects.
- A minimum of 50% aggregate marks in the 10+2 examination (for general category candidates) in Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry.
- Candidates must have completed 17 years of age as of 31st December of the year of admission.
