Demand for an exclusive University for Agricultural Sciences for Kalyana-Karnataka region was felt almost a decade back (Annexure I) owing to inimitable climatic conditions and farming activities. The Kalyana-Karnataka region comprising Bidar, Kalaburgi, Raichur, Ballari, Koppal and Yadgir districts (Map), an agrarian area with an irrigation potentiality of 12 lakh hectares through Tungabhadra, Krishna, Karanja, Mullamari, Hirehalla, Bennethore and other irrigation projects, spanning a total geographical area of 44.96 lakh hectares accounting 33.60 per cent of the geographical area of the state, of which nearly 68 per cent is under cultivation and has a unique combination of medium (32.42%) and large farmers (36.69%) bestowed with rich natural resources especially for agricultural development. The initiation for new Agricultural University at Raichur began through a letter by Government of Karnataka (No. AHD:165:UAS:99 dated:17-12-1999) directing University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad to submit a feasibility report on the proposal. An expert committee was constituted (No.AO/Est-V/LC/4778-B/99-00; dated: 5-1-2000) which not only realized the need for new Agricultural University but also recommended the proposal.

Raichur is privileged of being an oldest establishment for agricultural research. In 1932 an Agricultural Research Station was established by the then Nizam’s Government of Hyderabad with a mandate to carryout research on dry land farming. After the reorganization of states in the country, Raichur was identified as the main research station for oilseeds. With the establishment of State Agricultural University in Karnataka during 1964 at Bengaluru, it was elevated to Regional Research Station with a jurisdiction of five districts of Northern Karnataka. Agricultural Engineering Institute (AEI) was added to Raichur campus in 1969 to offer Diploma course in Agricultural-Engineering which, in 1987, was upgraded to the status of College of Agricultural Engineering with up-gradation of Diploma to B.Tech degree programme. In 1984 and 2000, Colleges of Agriculture were started / established, one at Raichur and the other at Bheemarayanagudi (Shahapur Taluk of Kalaburgi District) respectively, with an intake capacity of 30 students for each college. However, with establishment of University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad during 1986, Raichur became the component campus under UAS, Dharwad. Intriguingly, Raichur continued its privilege of being the second largest campus and a major hub of education under UAS, Dharwad. The Post-graduate degree programme leading to Master’s degree in eight departments was started in 1995 with an intake capacity of five students for each department every year. In 1994, Krishi Vigyana Kendra (KVK), a component of UAS, Dharwad but funded and monitored by ICAR, started functioning in the campus and received the best Krishi Vigyan Kendra National Award by ICAR for the year 2007-08, thus completing all the necessities of Teaching, Research and Extension. During 2008-09 and 2009-10, Post Graduate program began in other departments, thus making a total of 16 departments offering PG programme.

Admission

University Of Agricultural Sciences (UAS), Raichur admission to this university was based on marks obtained in the Bachelor's degree. After qualifying for my graduation with very good marks, I took admitted to this course. Students should have obtained a minimum of 55 percent of marks in B. SC or any engineering discipline from a recognized university are eligible to get admission in this course. For SC /ST students there was 5 relaxation of marks.

1. The University of Agriculture Sciences offers B.Sc and B.Tech programs under the spectrum of UG courses in 12 disciplines. Candidates who have passed the 10+2/HSC examination from any recognized education board in India can apply.

2. The application forms are available on the official website of UAS Raichur. Candidates may choose to apply online or can even apply through offline mode of application.

3. admission to both courses is on a merit basis. Although the candidate will be required to appear for a practical exam which will constitute 50% Weightage in the preparation of the merit list, the other 50% is the marks scored in the qualifying examination.

University Of Agricultural Sciences (UAS), Raichur to opt for a job in govt or we have to make our further studies. we get a job easily after completion of the course and it's better to prefer Govt job over therePlacement and job opportunities were very good in our university. The placement cell of our university arranges and conducts many campus placements for the students by inviting many companies. Companies like Vijaya Bank, Core Green Sugar Limited, HDFC, Aries Agro Limited, Mangalore Chemical, and Fertilizers Limited, etc come to our college for campus recruitment. The companies offered a minimum salary package of 3 lahks per annum and a maximum salary package of 6.5 lahks annually.

The college has its own placement cell which looks upon the needs of the graduates as well as the companies. It has a specialized team of training officers. They consistently connect to the major agricultural companies and build a connection between the companies and the graduates.

Job opportunities regarding the course are huge, some of them like agriculture officers, bank field officers, any private companies will intake the students as a sales manager or researcher. There is also an opportunity to write a jrf (junior research fellowship) exam where the fellowship is given up to completion of a master's degree.

Scholarship

University Of Agricultural Sciences (UAS), Raichur scholarship given by Karnataka state government it was details about the scholarship. The loan we get from banks only getting loans in banks it was not easy, they can't give loans immediately they verify the documents many times. Scholarships were provided to the students who got the highest marks in their batch and scholarship amount (2000-2500) was provided to that particular student. According to my point of view, there was no loan facility because the fee structure was already low.

Central government offers scholarships to students from reserved categories, socially and educationally backward classes of society, and economically weaker sections of the society. Apart from that educational loans are also offered by both the private and public sector banks.
