Seshachalam Chettiar, the revered Founder of our College, is a noble man. He
has bequeathed his property to poor children.
       
started an orphanage for poor children and his service for the people is highly
laudable. His orphanage was slowly developed into a Middle School which began
to function from 1946. Later on, the Middle School grew into High School from
1951. The Founder was philanthropic, benevolent selfless. Mrs. Urumu
Dhanalakshmi Ammal helped her husband in all his endeavours. Hence the College
bears her name.
       
are celebrating our Founder’s Day every year on 17th November in memory of our
beloved Founder.

      
Founder constituted a committee to look after all those properties that belong
to educational institutions. Our College is a part of Bharathidasan University.
On an auspicious day on which the Kumbabisheka of Akilandeswari Temple was
held, our College was opened by Jagathguru Sri Shankaracharya Jeyandra
Swamigal.
    
College located away from the town amidst rural surroundings, satisfies the
necessities of the needy people of Thiruverambur and Kattur Villages. Our
College functioned in S.I.T premises for the first two years, 1970-72. During
the third year, it began to function in its own buildings in at Kattur. This
College which started with Pre-University course had introduced B.A.
(Economics) during the Second year.
    
1975, B.Com. and B.Sc., (Maths and Chemistry) classes were introduced. In 1979,
B.Sc. (Physics) was introduced. Our College is having M.A.(Economics) from
1980-81, M.com. from 1981-82,part-time M.Phil. in Economics from 1982-83,Full-time
M.Phil. in Economics from 1985-86 and M.Sc. Applied Physics (Computer
Electronics) from 1986-87.

     
1985-86, the Evening College was started with B.Com. Course and in 1986-87
M.Com course was introduced.
    
1987-88, the University granted affiliation to M.A. (Tamil), full-time &
Part-time M.Phil. in Commerce to the Day College and B.Sc. Computer Science to
the Evening College. In the Evening College, during 1988-89, PGDCA course was
introduced and during 1989-90, M.Sc. Applied Physics (Computer Electronics)
Course was started.
  
1989-90 the University granted affiliation to Full-time and Part-time M.Phil.
courses in Physics in the Day College and Ph.D. programme in Commerce. The
University granted affiliation to Ph.D. Programme in Physics during 1991-92 and
Ph.D. Programme in Tamil during 1993-94.

1990-91, the University granted affiliation to MCA course in the Evening
College. The University also granted M.Sc. Computer Science in 1991-92 and
B.Sc. Industrial Electronics during 1992-93. During 1997-98, the University
granted affiliation for Self-financing Course in Master of Social Work and P.G.
Diploma in Clinical Chemistry. During 1998-99, the University granted
permission to start B.B.A and B.Sc.(Micro-Biology). During 1999-2000, the University
granted permission to start B.C.A and M.Sc. (Micro-Biology) under Self-finance
Scheme.

       
2001-2002, the University granted permission to start B.C.A (Additional
Section) and M.Sc. Information Technology under Self finance Scheme. During
2002-2003, the University granted permission to start B.Com.(Bank Management)
and M.Com.(Financial Management) under Self finance Scheme. During 2003-2004,
the University granted permission to start M.Sc. Mathematics and M.Sc.
Chemistry under Self-finance Scheme. During 2004-2005, the University granted
permission to start B.Lit. in Tamil and B.S.W. (Bachelor of Social Work) under
Self-finance Scheme.

Placements: Around 500-1000 students got placed in our course. The highest salary package offered was 6 LPA. The lowest salary package offered was 2 LPA. Top recruiting companies are IBM, Amazon, Google, etc.

 Library

      The Central Library was established in 1970. The College Library is well equipped with sufficient numbers of textbooks, reference books, journals, Competitive Examination Magazines and Newspapers to enrich our students with current affairs and General Knowledge. The library has good number of e-resources like e-books, e-journals, related to subject and curriculum of the college and also maintains a wide selection of non-academic and rare books which are of great historical significance to provide faculty and students an enriched experience. Library has been automated using “NIRMAL” Software with 4.0 version. It was automated in the year 2012. NIRMAL software is an user-friendly software designed to take care of all the administrative and management functions of the library.
