Vel Tech Rangarajan Dr. Sagunthala R&D Institute of Science and Technology, formerly known as Vel Tech Dr. RR & Dr.SR University and commonly referred to as Vel Tech, is a Private Deemed Institute, located in Chennai, Tamil Nadu.  It was established in 1997 by Founders Dr. R. Rangarajan and Dr. Sagunthala Rangarajan. 

Vel Tech Campus area is spread over 100 acres of land located in the Outer Ring Road in West Chennai, on the Avadi-Vel Tech Road, Vel Nagar, Avadi, Chennai, Tamil Nadu.

Vel Tech Rangarajan Dr. Sagunthala R&D Institute of Science and Technology is Affiliated to Anna University, Chennai and became a Deemed university in 2008.  It is recognized as an 'A++' Grade institution by the NAAC.  The Institute is also accredited by the NBA and recognized by the AICTE.  Vel Tech was ranked 83 among the engineering colleges in India by the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) in 2022.[The Institute is recognized by CDIO, The  Association of Commonwealth Universities and University Industry Innovation Network.

As a part of its Academic activities, Vel Tech has adapted the new pedagogical process called "Conceive-Design-Implement-Operate" (CDIO) approach.  The Institution is the first member from India to implement and practice CDIO methodology.  CDIO imbibed syllabus helps the students to acquire professional, personal and inter-personal skills systematically.  The Institute also adopts Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) which gives the student's flexibility to take up the course of their choice and learn at their own pace.

The courses offered by Vel Tech are BE/BTech, BBA, BCom, BSc (Viscom) & (Multimedia), BA LLB (Hons), BCom LLB (Hons), ME/MTech, MBA, MSc, MA, and PhD programs.  The eligibility for BE/BTech programs is the ranking in VTUEEE.  Vel Tech University admission for MBA, ME/MTech programs is based on TANCET and CEETA PG.

Since the inception in 1997, Vel Tech has laid emphasis on intense Industry-Integration, Impactful Research, International Collaborations and Technology Business Incubations.  The research facility is accorded with the status of Scientific & Industrial Research Organization (SIRO) by DSIR, Govt. of India. Till date, it has worked with agencies like DRDO, DAE, NID, DST and many manufacturing and engineering Industries to provide concerted solutions in different domains connected with UAVs, 3D printing, electronics, new materials, and e-bikes.  This office has established Interactions with more than 3164 Industries / Institutes / Organizations and has 212 MoU Signed (45 MoU’s are Functional last five years) organizations for various Academic and Research Activities such as Joint Degree Programmes, In-Plant Trainings, Internships, Projects, R&D, Consultancy, Industry Recommended Electives, Curriculum Updates, Corporate Talk, Corporate Tour, Facility Creations, Value Added Courses etc.  An inclusive practice of Vel Tech Industry Relations is the Industry-Institution Interaction, Partnership, and Collaboration.

Vel Tech Chennai Admission Process   

   Vel Tech Chennai offers admission to its courses on the basis of the entrance examinations and basis of merit. For Vel Tech Chennai admissions, candidates are required to appear for the entrance examination for the required courses. After the candidates clear the required cutoff of the entrance examination, they are eligible to appear for further Vel tech admission process. Candidates will be selected for admission depending on their performance in the entrance examination or merit. Candidates can apply for the desired course through the official website of the institute. Candidates have to download the application form from the website and have to fill out all the required details and submit the application form along with the application 

    Established in 1997, Vel Tech University, Chennai is a private university and accredited by NAAC with Grade ‘A’. The college offers undergraduate, postgraduate and research level programs in the discipline of Engineering & Technology, Management, Law and Media Technology and Communication. Admission is done on the basis of the performance of the candidates in the entrance exam as well as based on the performance in the previous qualifying examination.

For the Vel Tech Chennai Placement drive, the institute invites various companies for the placement process. These companies conduct their placement process which includes a pre-placement talk in which candidates can share their doubts regarding the job profile, aptitude test, group discussion and personal interview. The institute coordinates with the company during the whole placement process. Candidates selected in the placement process are required to join the company by the mentioned date given in the offer letter given by the company.

   The medical facility in the institute has a 100 member bed capacity with doctors working 24/7 with additional paramedical support. There are first aid centres, hot water facilities, and reverse osmosis (RO) water treatment plant. The medical facilities in Vel Tech also include yoga and physiotherapy centre.

    The Department of Physical Education, with its associated staff members, provide a well-equipped gym facility in every hostel.

    The library is well-equipped with a good repository of books, journals and academic services, including digital tools for student references and research. It is spread across 2500 sq.m with four blocks and has a collection of 99,200 books, 40,000 E-books, 20,118 journals, and access to SCOPUS. Some of the E-Resources available are Scopus-ELSEVIER, ProQuest, IEEE, ASCE, ASME and DELNET etc.

   Vel Tech provides both indoor and outdoor sports facilities for the holistic development of students during their academic life.
