Velalar College of Engineering and Technology (VCET) is a leading, renowned, co-educational institution of higher learning with its roots in Erode, Tamil Nadu.  VCET was started in the year 2001, administered by Vellalar Educational Trust.  VET was formed in the year 1969 to provide quality and affordable education - right from primary school to PhD level.  The Trust manages 9 other institutions – a State Board School, a Matriculation School, a CBSE School, an Arts and Science College for Women, a Co-educational Arts and Science College, a Pharmacy College, Nursing College and a B.Ed College.

VCET is set in a huge 25-acre campus on the Thindal-Villarasampatty Road in Erode's Thindal area, Maruthi Nagar, Thindal, Erode, Tamil Nadu.  The College campus is approximately 10 km away from Erode Railway Station and can be easily reached by various modes of transport.

Velalar College of Engineering and Technology is affiliated with Anna University, Chennai.  The College is approved by AICTE and accredited by NAAC with Grade 'A' as well as NBA and NIRF.  VCET was granted autonomous status by UGC from academic year 2016-17.   From the first year of autonomy, the college follows CBCS (Choice Based Credit System) offering wide variety of courses.

VCET offers 9 UG programs, 5 PG programs in addition to three Research Centres approved by Anna University for PhD.  More than 3100 students are pursuing their higher education in BE/BTech, ME/MTech and MBA programs.   Admission for UG courses is through Tamil Nadu Engineering Admission as per the Government of Tamil Nadu norms.  Admission is based on ranking of 12 standard exam results, which are facilitated by Directorate of Technical Education. M.B.A., M.C.A. and M.E. admissions are based on ranking in TANCET examination conducted by Anna University.  Deserving students are financially supported by many scholarships from   government, other charity organizations and the College management.

The Infrastructural Facilities that are provided by VCET include Library, Auditorium, Conference Hall, Cafeteria, Healthcare Services, Internet enabled and Wi-Fi campus, Bank with ATM facility,

Amenities Centre takes care of RO Plant, Solar Panel & Lights, Bio Gas, Solid waste Management, Safety measures, lift Ramp, Generators.

Student Club Activities include NCC, NSS, YRC, RRC, Rotaract, Green Club, EDC, Women Empowerment Cell, Fine arts Club, English Literary Assn, Toast Master Club and Standards Club.

The VCET Training and Placement Cell provides placements opportunities for willing and eligible students by conducting campus interviews.  The college takes elaborate efforts to by invite leading corporates / companies and arrange campus interviews with organizations for placement of final year students, as well as to arrange industrial training for students.  Campus Placement Training in all aspects (HR, Technical, GD and Written Test) is given in the pre-final year for all eligible candidates.

The Entrepreneur Development Cell of the college arranges motivational and guidance programs for the interested students by inviting successful and leading entrepreneurs and financial personnel.

Students are also motivated and encouraged to excel in co-curricular and extracurricular activities so that they get 360 degree development.

The OBE (Outcome Based Education) ensures that the system is student-centric and to attain the requisite Graduate Attributes as per Washington Accord.  Velalar College of Engineering and Technology Students are mentored by teachers for both academic and personal growth.

Admission to undergraduate courses is done through TNEA Counselling based on ranking according to the scores obtained in class XII. students must mandatorily have studied Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. M.E admissions are offered to those students who qualify either TANCET or GATE.

Velalar College of Engineering and Technology is very good in infrastructure and facilities. Placements: About 60% of the students were placed from our college. The starting salary offered is around Rs. 15,000-20,000 per month.

The college has a dynamic and well-established "Training and Placement Cell" headed by a Dean/Placement and assisted by two placement Officers along with one faculty co-coordinator from each Department as well as student co-coordinators from each Department.

Placement is the main institutional activity to extends job opportunities to the students under proper guidance. The placement cell interacts with many organizations across the country for arranging campus interviews for the placement of final year students.

The training and placement call arranges career guidance programmes (CGP), soft skills programmes, personality, development programmes through external experts. Such programmes are arranged for the students to develop their communication skills and to build their self-confidence. Also trainings in aptitude and in C,C++ language are arranged to improve their technical knowledge. Before the campus interviews, mock interviews are conducted to enhance the skills of the students and to motivate them in order to enable them to face the interviews successfully. The pre-final year students are also trained with the help of expertise of final year students (already placed)

MOUs have been signed with reputed companies for soft skills, guest lectures, industrial visits, project guidance and recruitments.

Transport Rules

1. Students must board their assigned bus to and from their assigned stop. Switching buses for any reason is strictly prohibited unless approved by the Department of Transportation.
2. No student should travel standing on the footboard.
3. Students must not move around in the bus while the bus is in motion.
4. The consumption of edibles and drinks is not permitted in the bus.
5. Students are not allowed to sit in parked buses during working hours.
6. Parents should consult the College Transport In-charge for necessary details.
7. Students should have written request from parents to go home on an alternate route. Bus drivers must be notified by the college office when approval is given to a pupil to change a bus trip.
8. Be aware that no change will be made in the location of bus stops or bus routing without the approval of the Department of Transportation.
9. Refrain from talking or distracting the driver while the bus is in motion except in the case of an emergency.
10. Students should carry the Bus Card which will be issued by the college after the payment of bus fees through challan in any BoB branch.
