Dr. Ishari K Ganesh, M.Com, MBA, B.L, (M.L), Ph.D., a visionary and an eminent educationist, established Vels Educational Trust in the year 1992 in fond memory of his beloved father Shri. Ishari Velan, former minister of Tamil Nadu Government. The core mission and primary objective of the Trust is to open new avenues of learning in order to empower young individuals and help  in transforming them into versatile, self-reliant professionals and accomplished human beings by developing the necessary Knowledge Skills and Attitude (KSA) and also to imbibe the passion to work towards National Service and Development. 

VELS Institute of Science, Technology and Advanced Studies (VISTAS) Chennai, popularly known as Vels University, is a Deemed-to-be University (VELS University) that is approved by UGC, Ministry of Human Resource Development (honoured VISTAS with University status), AICTE, BCI, PCI, NCTE, IRCLASS, Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, and DSIR. VELS University Pallavaram is accredited by NBA and with A Grade by NAAC. The university is driven by an experienced and qualified team of board members. Admission Procedure

VISTAS Chennai Courses are offered at UG, PG, Doctorate level. There are 200 courses offered at VISTAS Chennai. The courses are offered disciplines like Pharmacy, Medical, Science, Management. Admission Criteria

Admissions 2025

VISTAS (Vels Institute of Science, Technology and Advanced Studies) Chennai admits students to undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs based on a combination of entrance examination scores and academic merit. For most UG courses, candidates must have passed 10+2 with qualifying marks (typically 45–60% depending on the program), while PG courses require a relevant undergraduate degree with at least 50%. Entry into programs like B.Tech is based on VISTAS' proprietary entrance exam VELSEE, while management courses may also consider national exams like CAT or MAT. Professional course applications require an online form with a fee, generally INR 1,000 for generic courses and INR 2,000 for engineering and management.

ELIGIBILITY FOR ADMISSION TO ENGINEERING AND  LAW - UG PROGRAMME:

• Should have passed 10+2 . Admission is on Merit based on Vels Entrance Examination and percentage of mark secured in the qualifying examination
• ELIGIBILITY FOR ADMISSION TO ENGINEERING - PG PROGRAMME:
• Merit based on GATE/ TANCET/ Vels Entrance Examination and percentage of mark secured in the qualifying examination.

ELIGIBILITY FOR ADMISSION TO MARITIME STUDIES - UG PROGRAMME:

Merit based on percentage of marks secured in the qualifying examination together with 10+2 marks. Qualified in IMUCET. Medical standard: Candidate should be physically fit for sea service under standard norms with minimum unaided vision in each eye to be 6/6 and with no color blindness.

ELIGIBILITY FOR ADMISSION TO MANAGEMENT STUDIES & COMMERCE - UG PROGRAMME:

• Pass in (10+2), or Equivalent in any stream. Admission is on Merit based on percentage of marks secured in the qualifying examination.

ELIGIBILITY FOR ADMISSION TO Ph.D. PROGRAMME

Candidates for admission to the Ph.D. Programme shall have passed SSLC (10th or 11th class/grade and PUC or higher secondary (12th grade) before joining undergraduate (UG) programme (3 or more years) and UG before joining PG degree programme. That 10+2+UG Degree (3 or more years) or 11+1+ UG Degree (3 or more years).

Candidates for admission to the Ph.D. Programme shall have a Master’s degree or a professional degree declared equivalent to the Master’s degree by the corresponding statutory regulatory body, with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade ‘B’ in the UGC 7-point scale (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) or an equivalent degree from a foreign educational institution accredited by an Assessment and Accreditation Agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country for the purpose of assessing, accrediting or assuring quality and standards of educational institutions.

A relaxation of 10% of marks, from 55% to 45%, or an equivalent relaxation of grade, may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/Differently-Abled and other categories of candidates as per the decision of the Commission from time to time, or for those who had obtained their Master’s degree prior to 19th September, 1991. The eligibility marks of 55% (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) and the relaxation of 5% to the categories mentioned above are permissible based only on the qualifying marks without including the grace mark procedures.

Vels Institute of Science, Technology, and Advanced Studies encourage students to take up internships in different companies. In the final year of the course, students who undergo internships in both Core and IT domains are honored with a stipend. The opportunities for internships are provided through the placement cell as part of campus recruitment. The stipend given on internship ranges from INR 8000 per month to INR 25000 per month.

VISTAS is one of the best multi-disciplinary deemed to be university is Chennai has a huge campus spread across 29.8 acres of land and a built-up area of 1,15,171 square meters. It has 342 Spacious Classrooms, 173 Laboratories, 2800 Computers & Laptops, 125 Printers, 35 Overhead Projectors, 275 LCDs, 1110 Mbps High-Speed Wi-Fi Internet Connection all over the campus. There are 30 Smart Class Rooms, 5 Fully Air-Conditioned Auditoriums, 6 Seminar Halls, 1 Ship in Campus, 4 Health Centres, Free Clinic, ATMs, and 5 Well Equipped Conference Halls. To overcome unexpected downtime of the electricity grid, the university’s power is strengthened up by two separate generators with capacities of 200 kW & 400 kW.

VISTAS Library serves as a creative and innovative partner in supporting teaching, learning and research activities of the institution. It is the liveliest place on the campus providing a conducive environment that enables learning and advancement of knowledge. The pleasant ambiance and the well-furnished library with spacious reading rooms create an atmosphere of serenity and thereby inspire intellectual and research activities. All in-house operations of the library are fully computerized using the KOHA library management software that also provides web-based access to the catalogue of all libraries. It has a RFID-based automated library system and a wide variety of printed and electronic collections catering to the needs of all the stakeholders.

The Institution has vast and well laid out tracks. Excellent facilities are offered for all the indoor and outdoor games. The students get excellent training by a qualified Physical Director and his team of assistants. The students are encouraged to participate in various inter collegiate competitions to exhibit their talents and win medals and trophies. VELS Sports Academy promotes sports and games. Fee concession and free education facilities are provided to the Players who are selected to participate in games and sports at the Inter-university level. A number of zonal level and all India level games are being sponsored by the Institution.

Transport

VISTAS campus is located in the heart of the city. The University is located just one kilometre away from the Pallavaram railway station and only two kilometres away from the Chennai International airport. It has a local bus stop within one kilometre of campus. The university transport offers more than 150 buses which connect to various parts of the city. The students are also permitted to come by their two-wheelers and four-wheelers. The premises have a huge parking space for the students as well as the faculties and other visitors.
