The benefit of education, let alone higher education, was a distant dream for the poor people of Virudhunagar  region until the nineteen forties. It was in the backdrop that the philanthropic and munificent members of the merchant community of this town were longing for a college of their own. In  June, 1947, the idea of establishing a college in  Virudhunagar  was mooted at  Nadar Mahajana Sangam  meet held at  Kovilpatti.

Rao Bahadur M.S.P.Senthikumara Nadar who was present on the dais at that moment made on the spot announcement to donate a hefty sum of  Rupees Two lakhs  to start a college in  Virudhunagar. Right away, a committee was constituted to expedite the launching of a college. Thiru P.S.Chidambara Nadar, Thiru V.V.Ramasamy Nadar  and  Thiru M.S.Periasamy Nadar  were its members. This committee resolved unanimously to start a college immediately naming it after the donor.  Thiru M.S.Periasamy Nadar   was gracious enough to donate and acquire one hundred and fifty acres of land on the   Aruppukottai road   for the college. On 11th of August, 1947, Virudhunagar Senthikumara Nadar College  was brought into being. To run the new institution, a small committee was formed with Mr.W.P.A.Soundra pandian Nadar as President,   Mr.P.S.Chidambara Nadar  as Vice - President, Mr. V.V.Ramasamy as Secretary and Correspondent and Mr.M.S.Periasamy Nadar as Treasurer.

        Rao Bahadur Senthikumara Nadar was appointed the Patron of the college. In 1948, the Hindu Nadar Mahamai Tharappu took over the administration of the college. The successive Managing Boards of this college consisted of solid and simple men who were successful business magnates in their respective enterprises. They nurtured the nascent institution. Under their benevolent patronage, the college registered a phenomenal development, blossoming into a Post-Graduate Institution in 1967. Today, after 70 years of its inception, VHNSN College has grown from strength to strength, scaling new heights and crossing many a milestone on the academic road.

        Even a casual glance at the campus of this college will speak volumes for its multidimensional development. The sprawling campus dotted with lush green trees, the imposing and massive buildings, the sophisticated infrastructure with the state of art technology, the computerized and well - stocked library, the committed and competent team of staff and the enlightened management has collectively transformed this great institution into a towering colossus, standing astride and the pinnacle of academic excellence.          The Mark Certificates of the admitted candidates are subject to verification by the Director of Government Examination and if any Mark Certificate is found to be bogus, admission is liable for cancellation. Besides, strict penal action will also be taken. P.G Admission will be made on the basis of marks obtained upto Fifth semester at the U.G Level.

          The interview card will be sent to each candidate considered for selection by post. The recipient of the interview card has to appear for an interview with his/her parent guardian in time. The selected candidate will be admitted to the course to which he / she is found suitable. On admission, he / she has to pay the required fees and produce the following certificates in original.

·         Mark Sheet

·         Transfer Certificate

·         Conduct Certificate.

·         Attendance Certificate from the institution where he/ she last studied

·         Community Certificate (Xerox copy for the SC / ST/ DNC / MBC / BC Candidates).

      Under any circumstances, the certificates submitted to the college at the time of admission will not be returned during the course of study. Hence the candidates are advised to retain adequate number of Xerox copies of the same with attestation before submitting the originals to the college.

     The applicants who have passed the examinations of other Universities or Bodies should produce at the time of admission the following certificates in original.

·         Transfer Certificate

·         Mark Sheet

·         Provisional Certificate

·         Provisional Eligibility Certificate from the Madurai Kamaraj University

·         Migration Certificate.

     Six seats in Under-Graduate Courses are reserved for the children of Ex-servicemen of Tamilnadu origin. They should produce their dependency certificate at the time of admission.

Backward classes belonging to MBC/BC/DNC are given scholarship whose family income is less than 2 lpa. Adi dravida welfare scholarship is granted to SC/ST students under the scheme of government whose family's annual income is less than 2.5 lpa. The hostel students studying their respective PG and Ug courses are granted a sum of 7500 and 6500 respectively if there parent's income is below 1 lpa.
