The evolution of this pioneering Institution, Vinayaka Mission's College of Nursing (VMCON), Puducherry happened in the year 2002 under the dynamic leadership of Dr. A. Shanmugasundaram. The VMCON, one of the best Nursing colleges in Puducherry,  was affiliated to the Pondicherry University till 2004, after  which it was brought under the Vinayaka Missions Research Foundation  (VMRF) Deemed University, Salem. The institution is recognized by the Indian Nursing Council and the Tamil Nadu Nurses and Midwives Council. While many other nursing institutions have attained global recognition, few enjoy the reputation for quality nursing education and standards of nursing practice.  VMCON is one which always tries to maintain high quality in nursing education. VMCON, Puducherry conducts M.Sc. (N), B.Sc. (N), P.B.B.Sc. (N) under Vinayaka Missions University and DGNM, DMPHW [F] and DHI under the Board of Examinations, Puducherry.  Its UG & PG Nursing programs provide students the opportunity to extend themselves intellectually and clinically, thereby rendering quality healthcare to the general public through its hospital and community services.

VMCON is situated in a pleasant and spacious campus within the AVMCH campus on Cuddalor main road, Kirumampakkam, 20 km away from Puducherry.  It has its own unique office  building in the 3.15 acres of land. Situated in the unitary building with well-established infrastructure, it offers facilities as per the Indian Nursing Council norms.

In keeping with its vision and mission to prepare competent, dedicated and skilled nurses for the society and the nation, the college offers its students various activities and facilities:

Eligibility
A pass in 10+2 / H.Sc or its equivalent Examination with Physics, Chemistry, Biology (Botany & Zoology) and English individually and must have obtained a minimum aggregate marks of 45% in case of SC / ST category 40% marks.

Candidate shall complete the age of 17 years on or before 31st December of the year of admission.

Admission Procedure
Admissions for UG Programme will be made on the basis of the marks secured by the candidates in the All India Common Entrance Examination conducted by VMRF(DU) and the eligibility criteria prescribed by the Indian Nursing Council, New Delhi and VMRF-DU rules & regulations from time to time.

A Pass in Diploma in Nursing or its equivalent examination with 2 years Nursing Service in any Recognized Hospital / Educational Institution as full time Public Health Nurse after Registration in any State Nursing Council.

A pass in B.Sc. (N) / Post basic B.Sc. (N) Degree examination with aggregate marks 55% in case of SC/ST 50% marks and one year experience after Registration with any State Nursing Council.

Placement Cell
Placement Cell was established with the aim aspiring to provide best career opportunities for nursing students. It plays a key role in coordinating placement activities and guiding them for their successful future placements. It acts as an interface between the academic process of the students and their entry into the world outlook. The final year nursing students are recruited by various organizations in and around the state, and in major cities in India and abroad. The placement activities are arranged and facilitated by the institution during the month of July every year. The cell also proposes to conduct career guidance seminars and workshops to enable the students to become successful professionals. The prospective professionals are willing to take placement in campus recruiters, foreign careers, also higher education in India and foreign countries. The placement cell also keeps track of the changes in demand in the industry and this feedback is incorporated in the teaching and training curriculum. Thus, the students can be prepared well in advance.

Internal compliance committee
Internal compliance committee / Women Cell upholds the dignity of every woman at vmcon facilitating gender sensitive and congenial working environment, so that women, whether the female employee (contract, casual, temporary and permanent) or female student, are not subjected to gender-specific discrimination or sexual harassment. It also empowers every female in our institute.

Extension Activities are considered as one of the community social responsibility.it is backbone of every department of vmcon . Every department takes / shares the responsibility.Number of were carried out to exhibiting institutional & Civic social responsibility.  Multi Specialty Hospital - Clinical Facilities
          Nursing students are really privileged to have clinical exposure in their own parent multi-specialty hospital with 650 bed strength and other affiliated multi-specialty hospitals. Our multi-specialty hospital caters to a large number of the needy, as inpatients and out-patients, providing specialized care in all the departments. The average daily out-patient attendance is more than 1000 and average in-patient attendance is 450 at present and this guarantees adequate clinical materials with modern laboratories for the students to be exposed to a broad spectrum of diseases and their management. Free treatment is given to the public.

 Community Health Services
          We have our own adopted Rural Health Centre and sat light centers five numbers located in various places narambai, moorthykuppan, chinnakanganakuppam, ariyankuppam, nallavadu. In addition to the above 2 centres, the Government of Puducherry has allotted three more primary health centers to us namely, RediyarpalayamandAriyankuppamand Abisekapakkam.These five health centers had been taken up and being utilized by our college for field training activities such as home visits, nutrition demonstration, health education, and school health services.

 Library
          The nursing college has got its own library in addition to the central library shelved around -4291 textbooks of national and international authors with latest edition of books were add in every year budget. In addition to this departmental library 200 each of five departments also there is access for600 e-learning books. Nursing & nursing-related science books in different titles, current Indian and foreign journals as required are adequately stacked to cater the needs of students of all three Nursing Programs viz., B.Sc.(N), P.B.B.Sc.(N) and M.Sc.(N) and faculty members.

 Hostel Facilities
          Separate well-furnished hostels for girls and boys are available on the college campus which is spacious, well-ventilated. Students are provided ozonized, purified RO water; hygienically prepared and high-quality vegetarian and non-vegetarian meals are also served.
