The Vinayaka Mission’s Sankarachariyar Dental College, Salem is one of the reputed Private Dental Colleges in Tamil Nadu, popularly known as VMS Dental College.  It was established in 1986-87 to fortify the weaker section of the Nation and to serve aspiring students with the best Dental care and Oral & Maxillofacial Surge.  The college has committed itself to becoming a Center for Excellence in Dental Education and Hospital Practice in the field of Dental Sciences with the objective of strengthening the Health care sector of the country.  Dr. A Shanmugasundaram is the Founder. 

VMSDC is located in a 10.14 acre campus with a build up area of 1,14,149 sq. ft on Chennai-Cochin NH 47, Sankari Main Road, Ariyanoor,Salem, Tamil Nadu.636008.  The college is within the city of Salem, about 200 km from Bangalore and easily reachable both by Road and Railway.

The Vinayaka Mission’s Sankarachariyar Dental College, Salem is affiliated to The Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR Medical University, Chennai.  It is approved by the Dental Council of India, Govt. of India and has NAAC accreditation with Grade-A.  The VMS Dental College later on became a constituent College of  Vinayaka Mission's Research Foundation [Deemed to be University] from 2006.

VMS Dental College, Salem offers with three courses viz., Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS), Diploma in Dental Mechanic and Diploma in Dental Hygienist and Master of Dental Surgery (MDS).  For BDS the qualifying examination is NEET UG.  For MDS the Candidate must pass a recognized BDS Degree qualification from a university recognized by DCI and obtained a minimum eligibility percentile in NEET MDS.  For Diploma, the eligibility is a pass in 10+2 /H.Sc. or its equivalent Examination with science subjects of Physics, Chemistry & Biology (Botany & Zoology).  Programs are offered by the college with approval of DCI.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
i. To be eligible for admission to BDS Degree Course, a candidate must have passed in 10+2 / H.Sc (or) its equivalent examination with subjects of Physics, Chemistry, Biology / Biotechnology and English individually and must have obtained a minimum of 50% marks taken together in Physics, Chemistry, Biology / Biotechnology at the Qualifying Examination as mentioned in BDS Course Regulations, 2007 and in addition must have come in the merit list of NEET UG.

ii. In respect of the candidate belonging to SC/ ST / OBC category, the marks to be obtained is 40% instead of 50%. In respect of candidates with PWD (Persons with Disblibilites) the minimum marks at 45% for general and 40% for SC / ST / OBC category. In order to become eligible for admission to BDS Degree Course for a particular academic year, it shall be necessary for a candidate to obtain minimum of marks at 50th percentile in NEET UG.

iii. However, in respect of candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC category the minimum marks 40th percentile and PWD (Persons with Disabilities) candidates, the minimum marks 45th Percentile for general category and 40th percentile for SC / ST /OBC category.

Candidate shall complete the age of 17 years on or before 31st December of the year of admission.

ADMISSSION PROCEDURE
Admissions will be made for UG Degree programme through online counseling conducted by Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India, New Delhi on the basis of Marks obtained in the NEET UG Examinations and the eligibility criteria prescribed by the DCI regulations in accordance with the guidelines and directions issued by the Hon'ble Supreme Court of India / Government of India / Dental Council of India, New Delhi and VMRF-DU from time to time

After completing the BDS programme, dental graduates are permitted to use the term doctor as the prefix 'Dr' before their names. After earning a doctorate in dentistry, there are numerous chances for lucrative work and further education. It is a professional field with a high rate of job placement.
