Admission Procedure

​The admission procedure for the VIT School of Law (VITSOL) in Chennai is designed to identify candidates with strong academic backgrounds and a keen interest in the legal field. For the 5-year B.A. LL.B (Hons.) and B.B.A. LL.B (Hons.) programs, applicants must have completed their Higher Secondary Examination (12th grade) with a minimum aggregate of 75% marks from a recognized board. Candidates from Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, and North Eastern states require a minimum of 65% aggregate marks. Additionally, a valid score in the CLAT or VIT Law Entrance Examination (VITLEE) is mandatory.​

Admission Process

• Shortlisted candidates will be called for the Group Discussion and Personal Interview (GDPI) session.

• Complete a 3-year or 5-year LLB/LLB (Hons.) degree from a recognised university.

Ph.D in Law

Admission Process

• Hold a postgraduate degree in Law or a relevant discipline from a recognised university, as prescribed by VIT.

• Fulfil the minimum percentage or equivalent grade requirement specified for PhD admission.

• Meet the research aptitude or entrance examination requirements, wherever applicable.

• Candidates with recognised national-level qualifications may receive applicable entrance-test exemptions.

• Submit a research proposal or statement of research interest if required.

VIT Chennai offers merit-based scholarships for its undergraduate law programmes, including B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) and B.B.A. LL.B. (Hons.). The official VIT Chennai website lists the following scholarships:

• 100% tuition fee waiver for the first three Board/State/District toppers.
• 100% tuition fee waiver for candidates securing above 90 percentile in CLAT/LSAT.
• 75% tuition fee waiver for candidates securing above 80 percentile in CLAT/LSAT.
• VIT Chennai also has the State-Topper Scholarship Scheme (STSS) for selected law programmes.
• Under STSS, eligible state toppers from rural Government Schools can receive a 100% fee waiver covering academics.

The institution operates AC and Non-AC buses on various routes covering Chennai and nearby areas. Designated boarding points are provided along the different routes for the convenience of students. Shuttle services are also available to selected locations, including Alandur Metro, Velachery, Tambaram and Sholinganallur. Students can register for the service and use the route facilities according to the applicable transport schedule and availability..
