Vivekananda Degree College was established in 1982 and is affiliated to Bangalore University and NAAC accredited. Vivekananda Degree College was adjudged as ‘the 4th Best College in Bangalore’, by the survey conducted by the National English Weekly ‘India Today’ in 2003. The campus is located in the heart of the city and is about 5 km from Bangalore City Railway Station and Bus Stand. The college is very near to soap factory Metro station. The college runs several degree courses in Electronics, Computer Science, Arts, Science and Commerce. The results in all courses are good.The faculty members are well qualified, experienced and motivated. Eighteen faculty members hold Ph.D. degree and Twelve faculty members hold M.Phil degree and do research for Ph.D. degree. Dr. Vasu is the Principal of Vivekananda Degree College.

The college was started in June 1982 by the Management of Janatha Education Society with B.A., B.Sc., and B.Com, courses with 150 students, 08 teachers and 02 administrative staff. The JES catered the needs of the college by generous contributions made by some of its members. Year by year the college made remarkable progress in all fronts and by the end of 1986-87 the students’ strength increased to 700 with a faculty of 15. The infrastructure facility of the college during that period was not able to meet the requirements, however, the JES took initiative to develop the infrastructure by constructing a new building and equipping the laboratories. After the completion of Five years of non-grant period, college with all the requisites applied to the Government of Karnataka for Grant-in-Aid facility and obtained the same in August 1987. The college also obtained 2(f) status in 1991 and 12 (B) status in 1994 from UGC, which facilitated the college for its all-round development.

Eligibility Criteria for Under Graduate Course

Candidates who have passed the two-year Pre-University Examination of Karnataka or any other equivalent examination recognized by the Bangalore University are eligible for admission to the First year degree course. (B.A., B.com., B.B.M., B.B.M., B.C.A., and B.Sc.) Candidates coming from outside the state other universities should produce migration and eligibility certificates at the time of admission. Application for admission to the college should be made on the prescribed form, which can be obtained along with the prospectus from the college office on payment of fee. Every application must be accompanied by the certified copy of the statement of marks of the P.U.C. or qualifying examination and also the transfer certificate from the last institution attended. The application should be submitted to the Principle, Vivekananda Degree College, on or before the date specified or notified.

At the time of admission the candidate must produce the following documents

1) Original marks card
2) Income certificate (Issued by Competent revenue authority)
3) Caste certificate and
4) Two Prints of his/her recent passport size colour photo.

The parent or guardian must accompany the candidate at the time of admission and introduce the candidate in person. Admissions are provisional. Fees once said at the time of admission will not be refunded or transferred under any circumstances. If a student leaves the college and requires the transfer certificate fee of Rs. 30/-. Admission when granted , is only for the current year and not for the entire course. Admission for the next higher class is subject to the satisfactory progress and conduct of the student in the college during the preceding academic year. Admission to the second ans third year is also by a fresh application which has to be obtained from the college office each year on or before the prescribed date. The management and other concerned authorities reserve the right of admission or may refuse admission at any stage without assigning any reason.

We believe in ‘‘Education should offer practical results”. Our college endeavors to find excellent opportunities for students. We have a computerized database of all the companies to be targeted for campus placements, the alumni database and the profile of our students have already been prepared.
Reputed companies have recruited our students in the past. The Placement Cell arranges final placement as IT professionals with renowned national and international companies through campus interviews of the final year students. Training assignments are arranged for the first and second year students to prepare them for the upcoming placements.

Scholership

The candidates must be studying in Classes 11 and 12 at a recognised educational institution in India. Applicants must have scored at least 60% marks in the preceding class. The annual family income of the applicants from all sources must be less than or equal to₹2,50,000.
