Voorhees College had its beginning in the year AD 1898 through the sacrificial efforts of the missionaries of American Arcot Mission (AAM), an offshoot of the Reformed Church of America. The original buildings of the college were built with the sacrificial donation of a large-minded American couple, Ralph and Elizabeth Rodman Voorhees. In memory of that ennobling act this college was appropriately named as Voorhees College. Rev Dr W I Chamberlain served as the First Principal of Voorhees College. Back in the 19th century, people in and around Vellore were struggling under the clutches of poverty, ignorance and spiritual backwardness. Missionaries of AAM, compelled by the love of Christ, started this citadel for higher learning. It is their vision that the students who are educated here would build their families, the society and consequently, the nation-at-large. Besides providing quality and affordable education, the college emphasizes the importance of Christian virtues and values. Many a student comes here from the rural areas of Vellore and nearby districts. It is interesting that many of our graduates turn out to be the first graduates in their respective families. Thus the college serves the needy ones of the society, providing a holistic education.

To impart holistic education founded on Christian values to all students without discrimination especially the less privileged in moulding the character to emerge as self-reliant, enlightened, empowered and change-agents of the society.

Voorhees College, Vellore Application Process

All the admissions will be made only after inspection of the certificates and a personal interview.
The candidates will be called in for an interview should present themselves with parents on the date and time mentioned for the interview.
At the time of the interview, the following certificates in original should be submitted.

Community Certificate
Those selected for the admission are advised to take a sufficient number of scanned copies of all their original certificates before submitting them to the College office.
Mandatory Documents
Before filling the application, the applicants are required to scan and keep Community, Disability, Ex-servicemen, NSS, Sports and Baptism (for Christian applicants only) certificates, Marksheets and Photo.

For the submission of online application:

After filling up the details, the applicant will receive Application/Registration Number on the screen on the registered mobile number and email id.
Using the details, click on the link to upload your marks.
Application form should be filled online and there is no requirement of submitting it in the offline mode.
Applicants will thereby receive a link to download their submitted application through SMS on the student registered mobile number.

Online submission of application forms along with marks will be received up to June (for Shift-I) for admission process and incomplete applications in the absence of necessary documents will be rejected. Only, One application is valid for applying to one major subject only, in the Degree Course. Therefore, candidates are advised to use separate application forms for different major subjects for which they wish for. And for the admission into the degree course, the applicants should be between 15-21 years of age.

VC, Vellore Placement

The Placement Committee is a group of senior faculty and industry experts having greater experience in the work culture. It makes sure of the necessary workshops and mocks to be taken before any interview. After the courses are done they are solely responsible for on-campus and off-campus placement. The top recruiters are TCS Global, IHS, Congnigent, etc. Each year the college provides placement for up to 60% of students. The salary offered ranges from INR 50,000 to INR 90,000 per month. Students are placed in various fields such as voice center, social work, and HR.

Voorhees College offers various types of scholarship and loan opportunities to the meritorious and financially weak students. Candidates belonging to certain other categories are awarded the scholarships by Government. All types of government scholarships are permissible at Voorhees College for BC, MBC, SC, ST, and ADC.
The Tamil Nadu government has created an e-Scholarship facility. Through these scholarships, students from BC and MBC category receive a tuition fee waivers, discounts, hostel, and food allowances.
The Adi Dravidar Tribal Welfare scholarship looks specifically into the welfare of such people. This helps to foster their growth, progress, and improve the living standards of the tribe. They offer free bus and train pass too for students coming from outer districts.
