Karpaga Vinayaga Institute of Medical Sciences & Research Centre, is a private co-educational college established in 2009 under the aegis of Karpaga Vinayaga Educational Trust led by its Founder Thiru. S. Regupathy, Honorable Minister of Law, Government of Tamil Nadu.  The Trust founded the Karpaga Vinayaga Educational Group with the objective of rendering quality education and to groom efficient citizens for the future, thereby contributing to the nation-building process.  Karpaga Vinayaga Educational Group (KVEG) started in 1993 with the aim contributing to the country’s educational development process caters to various disciplines of education like Medicine, Dentistry, Engineering, Nursing, and Allied Health Sciences.

KIMS & RC, Maduranthagam, is situated in a beautiful landscape spread over an area of 30.76 acres of land on NH-45 (GST Road), Chinna Kolambakkam, Palayanoor PO, Madurantagam Taluk, Kancheepuram District, Tamilnadu. 

KIMS is recognized by Medical Council of India (NMC) and is affiliated to the Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR Medical University, Chennai.  It has been approved by NAAC with Grading B++.  Moreover the Institute is recognized by MCI for MBBS and 9 PG Courses.

With an annual intake of 100 seats in MBBS and 38 seats in 17 disciplines of Postgraduate studies, KIMS&RC is bestowed with the Best Institute award by DICE to recognize the institute’s role in providing quality health care and medical education in March 2018. In 2015, Institute got Best Enterpreuners Award for outstanding contribution in Medical Education from TOI.  The Qualifying examination for admission to M.B.B.S. degree course is through National Eligibility and Entrance Test (NEET) conducted by National Testing Agency (NTA). 

Apart from MBBS, the Institute also offers MD and MS programs for which the eligibility is National Eligibility and Entrance Test (NEET PG) conducted by NBE with a an MBBS from a recognized Medical Institution. 

BSc Allied Health Services Degree courses are also offered in the fields of Radiology and Imaging Technology (RIT), Operation Theatre and Anaesthesia Technology.  The Entry qualification for the BSc courses isAdmission any examination equivalent to H.S.C. / (10+2) examination, of any recognized Board/ University after 12 years of study with 50% in PCB for general category and 40% for reserved category.

A Student count total of 600 seats are allotted every year who are catered to by 171 strong faculty members.

KIMS is bestowed with modern academic facilities, which includes spacious air-conditioned Lecture halls, Examination Halls, Demonstration rooms, Departmental museums and Skill labs,  Advanced and fully-equipped laboratories,  Auditorium,  boys and girls hostel with attached mess, Sports and Recreational corner, Central Library, Bank and ATM within the campus.

The KIMS has an attached well – established 550 bedded Multi Super Speciality hospital with hi-tech infrastructure, facilities and modern equipments  to treat the patients.  It is a tertiary care hospital with 24X7 Emergency and Trauma care, Eye bank and Blood bank facilities. There are very good clinical and diagnostic facilities in the Hospital. There is a high footfall of OPD's and In-Patients every day. There are well equipped Operation Theatres and exclusive ICU's to cater to critical patients. The Hospital has facilities for burn treatment, Critical care services, Pharmacy and Physiotherapy. The Hospital's general specialities include General Medicine, General Surgery, OBG, Paediatrics, Orthopaedics, Dermatology, Psychiatry, Radiodiagnosis, ENT, Ophthalmology, Anaesthesiology, Pathology, Microbiology, Biochemistry & Forensic Medicine.

MBBS Admission Process:

After qualifying for the NEET UG entrance exam, candidates must participate in the Tamil Nadu NEET UG Counselling conducted by the Directorate of Medical Education, Tamil Nadu. The next step is seat allotment, document verification, and fee payment, which is the last step to confirm admission.

PLACEMENT:

In Karpaga Vinayaga Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Center, 100 students admitted in year 2014-15, out of which 99 graduated in 2018-19. From this, 52 qualified students got placed with a median salary of Rs. 432000 and 32 students got selected for higher studies.

Scholarship

Students who seeks MBBS admission through Government Quota under reserved category are entitled to receive scholarship.

The first graduate scholarship is offered by the Government to those who are the first graduate from their family. SC scholarship is given by the Government for SC/ST candidates. The students form duly attested by Principal is submitted to Department of backward classes welfare, Kanchipuram. All the details of the students are also uploaded on the official portal. Department of backward classes welfare after scrutinizing the document, the list of the students who received scholarship is send to the college.

LIBRARY:

Library is collection of sources of information available for the students, faculties and staffs that is accessible for referencing and borrowing. It helps to keep update on latest research. It’s a lively place in the campus providing a safe, comfortable, friendly environment that enables learning, advancement of knowledge, promoting discovery and scholarship.

Karpaga Vinayaga Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Centre has an excellent libraryas per International standards for students, faculties and researchers with large collection of books, journals and periodicals covering various branches of medicine and allied health sciences.

It is situated at fourth floor of college buildings expanded over 70325 Sq. Ft.area with total seating capacity of 370 seats.Library timings are 8am to 10pm on weekdays while Sundays and holidays the closing time is restricted to 3.30pm. Students can visit the library in person during library hours and can get access to available books or can borrow books by providing the id card. Minimum 2 books are available for 4 days, which can be renewed for a minimum of 2 times. Student can sit in the library and use the books and journals. A separate “Archives” section is located, containing old editions of books and back issues of journals which are preserved for ready reference. There is a separate section available for reading Newspapers too.

A total number of 9656 text books with 110 journals, of which 75 are National and 35 are International journals along with section for highly valued and antique texts in Medicine and other Health sciences and manuscripts is available for the students. There is provision for open access content from National library of Medicine, PubMed and PubMed centre. Library has collection of Dissertation of the students, who have completed the postgraduate course from our institute.

The library is equipped with “AutoLib” software, one of the leading Academic Campus Automation Solution Provider in Tamilnadu which is a fully integrated, versatile, user-friendly, cost-effective and multi-user software on Windows with WEB Module. Aware of the need for accessing maximum knowledge in the quickest time by utilizing modern technology, library provides free access to CD-ROMs, DVDs, and online journals. In addition, we have an Internet lab with 20 computer systems available for use by any member of the institute free of cost.

Institute has also conducted learning sessions on, online learningtoday, online learning app and mobile learning, and internet library in last 3 years. 410 students benefitted from the learning 

CANTEEN
There are two canteens in the college and hospital premises which serves tasty delicious snacks and hygienic meal food to meet the requirements of students, faculty &visitors at subsidized rates.

GENERAL/DEPARTMENTAL STORE
The general store is situated at II floor of hospital buildings where all types of stationary and medical material like stethoscope, White coat, dissection box, knee-hammer, measuring tape is available. Students can purchase necessary things during college hours. Departmental store is also existing in the campus for the purchase of daily needs.

ATM CENTRES AND POST OFFICE
There are two entrance ATM centres at the entrance of main gate (Axis Bank & Indian Bank) for the students, faculties and patients’ relatives to withdraw money. Students who wants do speed post can avail post Office facility available at main entrance.

PHOTOCOPY CENTRE
For the convenience of the students, there exists a photocopy Centre in the college campus for photocopying/ Xeroxing of document, clinical material at the nominal cost. The Centre opens at 9 am and closes at 4 pm.

HEALTH CARE FACILITY
All the students are vaccinated for Hepatitis-B at the time of admission on the day of orientation.

Students can avail Medical facility for 24 x 7 at the Karpaga Vinayaga hospital for diagnostics and treatment. Separate wards,Clean and safe drinking water is provided at all strategic places in the hospital premises for the students. Clean & well-maintained washrooms in the college and hospital blocks and other strategic places are available

TRANSPORT FACILITY:

A full-fledged Transport department functions in the college with buses to provide transport facility to students and staff from various places. KIDS has a fleet of buses which runs through important routes in and around Chennai, Chengalpattu and Kancheepuram district. Depending on where our students reside, we recommend specific bus routes to provide the best transportation options. This service is offered ensuring a hassle-free and safe transportation. This transport is also used for various educational purposes like visit to local industries, hospitals, etc.
