PSG Institute of Medical Sciences & Research (PSG IMSR)

PSG Institute of Medical Sciences and Research also called as PSG Medical College is the most sought after private medical institution in Tamil Nadu.  It was established on 30 September 1985 by Charity Trust of P.S Govindasamy Naidu & Sons (1926).  The four sons of P.S.Govindasamy Naidu adopted Charity as their fifth brother and divided their ancestral wealth into, not 4 equal portions, but 5, the fifth one earmarked exclusively for Charity.  Realizing that illiteracy was at the root of all the ills of society, their generous and leadership qualities surged ahead to the fore witha clear sense of understanding of the prevailing malady and its cause. The Trust came into being to cater to the growing needs of education and industrialization in Coimbatore.  It was started with an aim to strike back at illiteracy with a missionary zeal and make education as their primary thrust area. The zeal of idealism continued and many institutions were born in succession in various disciplines.

PSG Institute of Medical Sciences and Research is a Teaching hospital and Research Institute located off Avanashi Road, Peelamedu, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu.  The PSG Medical Campus is spread over 100 acres and is home to almost 10,000+ students and staff.  A total of 95,00,895 sqft building comprises of Academic wings, Teaching Hospital, student and faculty housing, and all administrative offices within the busy campus.

PSG IMSR has Affiliation with Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University, Chennai.  It also has NABH accreditation.

PSG Hospitals, a 1400-bed, tertiary care hospital was recently awarded with JCI prime certification and has become the first hospital in Tamil Nadu to receive the accreditation..

The hospital is affiliated to the PSG Institute of Medical Sciences and Research and has been recognized as an institution that offers students with multiple facilities at the undergraduate and postgraduate level. PSG Institute of Paramedical Sciences and Nursing are associated with the institute.

PSG received its JCI-PRIME certification on August 24, 2021.

The PSG College of Pharmacy was ranked 51 by the National Institutional Ranking Framework Pharmacy ranking of 2020.  It ranked 27 among medical colleges. In the National Level in the recently released Outlook Rankings it was ranked 4^th.

PSG Institute of Medical Sciences and Research offers MBBS program based on NEET score. It also offers PG programs including MD, MS, Dip in Ortho for which admissions are based on NEET PG score.

They have a center for Research & Bioethics which includes, Center for Molecular Medicine & Therapeutics Research, Centre for Clinical Simulation Research, Center for Biomedical Innovation Research. The main objective of PSG Medical College is to encourage research & bioethics as part of its student's academic experience. The Research Center of PSG Medical College is the only center in TamilNadu to train Diplomate of National Board students in Research.

Transport

The college runs a full fledged Transport department that operates 30 buses in addition to cab to extend transport facility for students and staff coming from urban and suburban areas .This service is offered ensuring a hassle-free and safe transportation. The routes have been meticulously planned covering the nook and corner of the city. The number of buses tend to increase based on the increase in the intake of student in the ensuing academic year.
