PSGR Krishnammal College for Women (PSGR KCW)

 The Founder of the GRG Trust, Sri. G.R. Govindarajulu, following the footsteps of his illustrious parents, started a high school for girls in 1956 in Peelamedu, Coimbatore. Growing in popularity and driven by the desire of the public, the school blossomed into a full-fledged college for women. Thus was started PSGR Krishnammal College for Women on 28th June 1963 under the auspices of the GRG Trust. Sri G.R. Govindarajulu was the Founder Trustee and Smt. Chandrakanthi Govindarajulu, the Founder Correspondent of the college. Under the able leadership of the Managing Trustee, Shri. G. Rangaswamy and Chairperson Dr. R. Nandini, the college strives to live up to its motto, ‘Educate to Empower’. Due to the untiring efforts of the founders and their family members, the college in the second year of its inception (1964) was upgraded to a First Grade college. This is the first women’s college in this area to start MA (Literature) in 1969, BCom in 1970 and BBM in 1987, exclusively for women. Another pioneering initiative at the state level is the starting of MBA course exclusively for women during 1993-94. The MBA programme of KCW has been internationally accredited by the ACBSP, USA in 2019.

  PSGR Krishnammal College for Women, which is affiliated to Bharathiar University, is an Autonomous, Arts and Science College located in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, India. It has been recognized as the 'College of Excellence' by the University Grants Commission in 2016 and has been awarded the A++ grade with a CGPA of 3.71 on a four-point scale by the NAAC in the fourth cycle of accreditation.  It is an ISO 9001:2015 certified institute,  and 5th among Government and Government-Aided colleges in ARIIA 2020.  The college has been ranked sixth among the colleges in India in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) ranking of 2022.  It ranked 6th in the General -  India NIRF Colleges (2022) and ranked 4th in the National Institutional Ranking Framework 2023 by the Ministry of Education, Government of India.

  Over a period of 60 years, PSGR Krishnamal College for Women has grown into a Full-fledged, First class Post-graduate Research Institution. All Eight Science departments have been awarded the ‘Star Status’ by DBT. Interdisciplinary Life Science research is promoted through the DBT-BUILDER programme. The institution started UGC sanctioned skill-enhancing B.Voc. programmes (Garment Designing & Beauty Therapy and Aesthetics) and a Community College in 2014. A Rural Women Technology Park (DST-sponsored) has been launched to empower women in rural areas through technology transfer and entrepreneurship.

  KCW was awarded with ‘College of Excellence’ status by UGC in 2016 and has been ranked #6 among colleges in the country in NIRF2022. In 2016, three computer stream departments, Computer Science, Computer Applications and Information Technology were included in the DBT star scheme along with the five basic science departments. These departments were upgraded to Category II star status in 2017 (Basic Sciences) and 2019 (Computer Stream Departments). In 2021, NAAC declared the college as accredited with CGPA of 3.71 on a four-point scale at A++ grade. In December 2022, KCW has been recommended by DST FIST in level A category (PG Colleges), to strengthen research facilities in the college. The college has been recognised as a Nodal Training Institute under the Agri-Clinics & Agri-Business Centres (ACABC) programme launched by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Government of India, in association with NABARD. The GRG BIRAC EYUVA Centre (Encouraging Youth for Undertaking Innovative Research through Vibrant Acceleration) has been established with the support of BIRAC (Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council). Thus, the college keeps progressing towards excellence. 

 PSGR KCW functions in two shifts, offering Undergraduate, Postgraduate and Doctoral degrees in Arts, Science, Commerce, Computer Science, and Management, with a strength of 8500+ students and 425+ faculty members.

 PSGR KCW is located in calm and quiet surroundings that is conducive to learning. It helps to stimulate both personal and professional growth of the students. The campus is located about 6km from the Coimbatore railway station. With 375-seater halls on campus which are fully equipped with modern technology that include projectors and screens used extensively for seminars, conferences, meetings and other events, Two auditoriums with 2000+ and 4000+ capacity is world class in its facilities,  Spacious classrooms, Convenient and flexible transportation, Highly advanced and adequately equiped Science and Computer labs, Main  and Departmental Digitalised Libraries, 24 hours Wifi connectivity, Bank and ATM and good drinking water, alongwith standby power supply,  the life on campus is vibrant and thriving.

 The institution has entered into new ventures with the UGC sanctioning skill-enhancing programmes through BVoc (in two disciplines) and a Community College in 2014. A Rural Women Technology Park (DST-sponsored) has been launched to empower women in rural areas through technology transfer and entrepreneurship.

 Under the banner of Campus Companies, “Magical Shades” was inaugurated on 19 February 2016, which is an initiative of students of GRGSMS to showcase their entrepreneurial skills. It serves an experiential lab that enables students to experiment their business ideas offering a unique platform for the students to experience the business environment, analyze suppliers, understand consumer behaviour, manage financials, balance inventories, implement promotions, practice teamwork, implement strategies and develop business.

  Vogue and Style Fashion Studio, inaugurated on 3rd August 2018 is an initiative of PSGR Krishnammal College for Women to develop entrepreneurial skills among students. The college has been ranked #5 among government and government-aided colleges in ARIIA 2020.

  PSGR KCW has global collaborative agreements with Oregon State University, San Diego State University & Toledo University, USA; Universiti Malaysia Pahang, Malaysia; Nottingham Trent University, UK; CETYS University, Mexico; and Swinburne University, Australia.

ADMISSION POLICY AND PROCESS
 Admission will be carried out through online application portal
 Admission process will start as per the guidelines of Tamil Nadu Government
 All the candidates seeking admission to the Undergraduate (UG)/ Postgraduate (PG) are required to     register online or can visit to the College and receive the printed application.

 Admission is made purely on the basis of merit, subject to the rules of reservation of the Government of Tamil Nadu and Bharathiar University.
 As per the present policy, a candidate seeking admission in Undergraduate (UG) programmes must have passed 12th examination of 10+2 system from a recognised board and seeking admission in Postgraduate (PG) programmes must have passed UG  programme from a recognised Institution/University.
  The applicants will be eligible to take admission in all the programmes provided they satisfy the cut-off and the eligibility for the selected programme.
  If applicants have examination results pending or have reappeared in papers, they will be able to update these marks by logging into their Dashboards. The college may be contacted for further details of admissions.
  Applicants will be responsible for the quality and authenticity of all the information they enter, including upload of copies of certificates.
  Admissions will be considered to be complete only when the full fee for the academic year is paid (against an official receipt) and the name of the applicant appears on the relevant rolls.
   Applicants who do not have a valid e-mail ID must create an e-mail ID before proceeding as all the future correspondence is through this e-mail ID throughout the admission process 

  The applicant to register and fill the application completely. Students who have got applications are requested to fill their marks and submit the applications through online mode after thoroughly checking the necessary details are filled. Only  successfully submitted applications will be considered for the selection process.
  Use the Application Number/User Name(Student Aadhar Number) for further reference.
  Filing of the data on Main Application Window to be done only once. For each programmes selected by the applicant, online application system automatically generates a separate application and issues the application number which can be viewed  from programmes selected tab.
  Programme selection can be done any number of times after the first registration using login credentials.
  The selection process is based on the Eligibility criteria. Eligibility criteria depends on the programme applied for. Hence specification of subjects in the qualifying examination is mandatory.
  The selection of admission is confirmed on verification of the original mark sheet, community certificate and other relevant documents. The admission of the candidate is subject to the approval of Bharathiar University.
  Equivalence certificate should be produced by the candidates other than Tamil Nadu Higher Secondary Examination Board, and CBSE Board.
  Students who have got applications are requested to fill their marks and submit the applications through online mode after thoroughly checking the necessary details are filled.
  If any applicant is unable to submit the application in online they can submit the hard copy of the filled in application in the drop box available in the college

 Nearly 80 to 90% of students were placed. The highest amount of package is 200000 and the lowest is 50000. Top recruiting companies are infosis, wipro. 75 % of students got internship from Amazon, Visionary, Microland wipro.

HALLS
  The halls on campus are fully equipped with modern technology that include projectors and screens. These halls – the 375-seater Chandra Seminar Hall and 175-seater Conference Hall – are used extensively for seminars, conferences, meetings and other events.
Auditorium
  There are two auditoriums on campus. The open auditorium with a capacity to seat 4,000+ was partially funded by the PSGRKCW Alumni Association on the occasion of the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the college in 2013. The GRG Centenary Sports Arena auditorium with a capacity to seat 2,000+ was inaugurated on 19 January 2019 and is world-class in its facilities.
CLASS ROOMS
  Spacious, well ventilated, well-equipped and well-furnished classrooms with projectors and screens facilitate and reinforce effective teaching-learning experience for the faculty and students.
LABORATORIES
  PSGRKCW has set up highly advanced science and computer laboratories attached to different departments. These are adequately equipped with the latest gadgets, instruments and apparatus with the aim of providing students conceptual as well as practical understanding of the subject through hands-on training.
LIBRARIES
  GR Govindarajulu Memorial General Library, Chandrakanthi Memorial Professional Library and 17 other departmental libraries include a large number of national and international books, journals and other learning resources.
  A digital library section also offers the latest online reading materials including databases such as EBSCO, INFLIBNET and DELNET.
24/7 CONNECTIVITY
  Understanding and underscoring the need for online connectivity, the campus is technology-enabled with 24/7 high-bandwidth Wi-Fi connectivity. This facility is open to students, staff and faculty on campus for accessing both the Internet and the Intranet.
BANKING AND ATM

  An ATM facility set up by the IDBI bank is available in campus to help the students make banking transactions without any inconvenience.
DRINKING WATER
  The college provides access to safe drinking water to all on campus by installing water purifiers on all the floors of buildings. These water purifiers are maintained and serviced by authorised professionals at regular intervals.
GYMNASIUM
  GRG Purple Hues Fitness Studio was inaugurated on 19th January 2019. It houses two
gymnasiums with modern, fully automatic, comprehensive range of weights and cardio-vascular training equipment that include the Treadmill, Cross Trainer-EFX, ExerCycles, Abs Crunch, Rowing Boat, Stretching Machine, Multi Press Machine, Pectoral Fly and Leg Press
DINING HALLS
  A large dining hall with a capacity of 500 students to dine at a time is provided at the college campus. Both vegetarian and non-vegetarian food is provided to all the inmates of the hostel.
CAFETERIA
  The FSSAI-certified GRG Cafeteria which can house a floating population of nearly 200 students at a time provides nutritious and tasty food and snacks. A variety of breakfast, lunch, snacks and drinks are available for the students, staff and faculty.
SPORTS ARENA
  The GRG Centenary Sports Arena is laid with synthetic courts for badminton, basketball, volleyball, table tennis, and boxing. It is equipped with a 1200-seater gallery, lockers, warehouse, furnished dormitories, electronic score board, CCTV, VIP room and rest rooms. This facility was partially funded by UGC.

  PSGRKCW provides convenient and flexible transport facilities for the students staying in the college hostels. 13 buses ply everyday between the college and the hostels to suit the class timings. These buses are piloted by experienced drivers and conductors to ensure safety of the students.
