IMU Admission 2026: First Merit List Released for UG, MBA and M.Tech Courses; Check Eligibility, Fees, Scholarships and Admission Process: Indian Maritime University Announces First Merit List for Admissions 2026; Certificate Verification to Continue Until July 2
The Indian Maritime University (IMU) has commenced the admission process for the 2026 academic session and has released the first merit list for Undergraduate (UG), MBA and M.Tech programmes. Candidates who have been allotted seats through the first round of admissions must complete the certificate verification process within the prescribed schedule.

The university offers admission to a wide range of programmes, including Diploma in Nautical Science (DNS), B.Sc (Nautical Science), B.Tech, BBA, MBA, M.Tech, Post Graduate Diploma in Marine Engineering (PGDME) and PhD programmes across its six campuses and 18 affiliated institutes.

Admission to most undergraduate and postgraduate programmes is primarily based on performance in the Indian Maritime University Common Entrance Test (IMU-CET) 2026.

IMU Admission 2026: Eligibility Criteria

The Indian Maritime University has prescribed separate eligibility requirements for undergraduate, postgraduate and research programmes. Candidates must satisfy the academic qualifications, age criteria and medical fitness standards before submitting their applications.

IMU UG Admission Eligibility Criteria (DNS, B.Sc Nautical Science and B.Tech)

1.    Candidates must have passed Class 12 or an equivalent examination from a recognised board with a minimum of 60% aggregate marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (PCM).

2.    Candidates should have secured at least 50% marks in English either in Class 10 or Class 12.

3.    Applicants must possess a valid IMU-CET rank, and candidates applying for seagoing programmes must be unmarried.

4.    Maximum age limits are:

o   General Category (Male): 25 years

o   OBC-NCL (Male): 28 years

o   SC/ST (Male): 30 years

o   Female candidates receive an additional two years of relaxation in each category as on August 1, 2026.

5.    Candidates applying for DNS, B.Sc (Nautical Science), B.Tech (Marine Engineering) and PGDME must fulfil medical and eyesight standards prescribed under the Merchant Shipping (Medical Examination) Rules, 2000, certified by DGS-approved doctors.

6.    SC/ST candidates receive a 5% relaxation in PCM marks, although no relaxation is available in English marks. Relevant diploma holders can also seek admission through lateral entry into the second year.

IMU BBA Admission Eligibility Criteria

  • Candidates must have passed Class 12 or equivalent in any stream with at least 50% aggregate marks.

  • A minimum of 50% marks in English in Class 10 or Class 12 is mandatory.

  • No entrance examination is required.

  • Admission is entirely merit-based on Class 12 marks.

IMU PG Admission Eligibility Criteria

M.Tech Programmes

  • BE/B.Tech degree in the relevant discipline with at least 55% aggregate marks.

  • Valid IMU-CET, GATE, CUET (PG) or PGCET score.

MBA Programmes

  • Bachelor's degree in any discipline with at least 50% aggregate marks.

  • Minimum 50% marks in English in Class 10, Class 12 or Graduation.

  • Valid IMU-CET, CAT, MAT or CMAT score.

PGDME Programme

  • BE/B.Tech degree in Mechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture or Marine Engineering with at least 50% marks.

  • Admissions are conducted separately through IMU Mumbai Port Campus.

No age restrictions apply for most postgraduate programmes, although candidates must submit a physical fitness certificate.

IMU Research Admission

Admissions to PhD, Integrated PhD and M.S (By Research) programmes are conducted through separate examinations and interviews notified by the university.

Application Process

Step 1: Visit the official website and access the IMU-CET registration portal.

Step 2:Complete basic registration using a valid email ID and mobile number and pay the registration fee.

Step 3:Select up to eight preferred states for the examination centre.

Step 4: Fill in personal and academic details and upload the required documents, photograph and signature.

Step 5: Log in again during the city selection window and choose the preferred examination city.

Step 6:Download the hall ticket and appear for IMU-CET 2026.

Step 7: After the rank certificate is issued, register for online counselling by paying ₹10,000 and fill programme and campus preferences.

Step 8:Confirm the allotted seat by paying the programme fee and complete certificate verification.
