Aadhaar Integration for Registration
Starting with JEE Main 2026, candidates will be able to register directly using their Aadhaar number, which will serve as the primary ID proof for the application. The Aadhaar-based login will auto-fill personal information such as name, date of birth, gender, and address, as per the UIDAI database.
This move is designed to minimize discrepancies in candidate details, which previously led to mismatches in admit cards or scorecards.
Candidates without Aadhaar will still be able to apply using alternative identity documents like a Passport, PAN Card, or School ID, but Aadhaar verification will remain the preferred and streamlined method.
Step-by-Step New Application Process
1. Aadhaar Authentication
On visiting the official JEE Main website, candidates will begin by entering their Aadhaar number or Virtual ID. An OTP will be sent to the registered mobile number linked with Aadhaar for verification.
2. Auto-Filled Application Details
After successful Aadhaar validation, the candidate’s basic personal details will be automatically populated in the form, saving time and reducing manual errors.
3. Filling Additional Details
Applicants will then have to fill in other information such as educational qualifications, exam city preferences, and paper choices (B.E./B.Tech, B.Arch, or B.Planning).
4. Image Uploads with Updated Specifications
The NTA has updated the **image specifications** for photographs and signatures to ensure uniformity and easy verification.

5. Application Fee Payment
Candidates can pay the application fee online through debit/credit card, net banking, or UPI. The fee structure remains similar to the previous year, varying based on gender, category, and exam papers chosen.
6. Confirmation Page and Correction Window
After submission, candidates should download the confirmation page for future reference. The NTA will open a short correction window to allow rectification of errors in uploaded images or form details.
Why the Aadhaar-Based System Matters
The Aadhaar-linked process enhances security, prevents duplicate registrations, and ensures accurate identity verification during all exam stage, from registration to result declaration. It also simplifies the coordination between examination and counselling authorities, especially during document verification for admission.
Conclusion
The introduction of the Aadhaar-based registration system for JEE Main 2026 marks a significant step toward a more efficient and error-free application process. With clearer image upload guidelines and auto-filled personal details, the new system aims to make exam registration faster, more secure, and user-friendly for lakhs of engineering aspirants across India.
