How Choice Filling Determines Final Seat Allotment

The choice filling (option entry) process plays a crucial role in determining the final allotment.

During counselling, candidates arrange their preferred colleges and courses in order of priority. The KEA allotment software processes these choices sequentially, beginning with the candidate's highest preference and moving downward until an eligible seat becomes available based on:

  • KCET rank

  • Reservation category

  • Seat availability

  • Candidate preferences

The first eligible preference matching all criteria is allotted to the candidate.

Importance of the Mock Seat Allotment

Before announcing the final allotment, KEA conducted the Mock Seat Allotment Round, which served as a trial exercise.

The mock allotment helped candidates understand:

  • Their likely admission prospects.

  • Current cut-off trends.

  • Possible college and course allotment.

  • Whether changes in option entry were required.

Candidates were then given an opportunity to modify or reorder their preferences before the final allotment was processed.
