About Us

Basaveshwara College of Commerce, Arts & Science was established in 1982 as a realisation of a dream of the founders of the Sri Jagajyoti Sahakara Sangha to start an institution of higher learning. The institution has the vision of imparting quality education at moderate cost to promote inclusive learning. Always adhering to the tenets laid down by Lord Basaveshwara, the college promotes simple living and high thinking. Great thrust is given to the encouragement of students from the socially and economically marginalised sections of society. More than 50% of our students receive freeships and scholarships of one kind or another. The college arranges remedial classes for slow learners by utilising UGC funds.

The academic year 2010-11 was particularly memorable for the members of the Basaveshwara fraternity. The degree college which was set up with only the Commerce faculty in 1982, boasts of Arts, Science and Management faculties as well now. The college celebrated the silver jubilee in a grand and befitting manner.

This NAAC accredited institution was reaccredited with a ‘B+’ grade in 2017, for a further period of five years. This has given an impetus for further growth and improvement. The college is located in a good residential area and is well-connected to all parts of the city. The class-rooms are spacious and well ventilated. The corridors and staircases are broad and well planned. A large playground and a beautiful garden add joy to learning. The college has augmented the laboratory facilities adequately with the funds obtained from UGC and internal sources. The library has been shifted to a well planned, well lit, spacious, new floor, and has a collection of over 26,000 books.

Placement cell
The College has an active placement cell. Database of all final year students is maintained and provided to prospective employers. Work-Shops are arranged to help students prepare their resume and teach them the skills of GD and interview facing. Campus recruitment programmes are held and some of our students have been recruited by good companies like TATA, HP and HDFC Bank during these campus recruitment drives.

In fact in the previous academic year, the college has been arranging for pre-placement training which focuses on Aptitude and Soft-skills. The course is conducted in co-ordination with IMS Learning Resources Pvt. Ltd. It has proved to be very helpful to the students.

Library
The college has a well-stocked library with about 25000 volumes. It is partly computerized. There is a reading room facility for both staff and students.

Laboratories
The college has laboratories in Computer Science, Electronics and Physics.

I.T Infrastructure
The College IT Laboratory is well-equipped with the necessary infrastructure, seating arrangement, lighting facility, and the latest equipment needed for conducting the prescribed experiments. It also has business-cum-language laboratory.

Medical/Hospital
The College health center is located on campus. Minimum first-aid facilities are available here. A qualified doctor visits the campus on a need basis. The room also serves as a Grievance Redressal cell.

Auditorium
The college has a central auditorium which is shared with the other institutions of the Sangha. Besides this, the college has a large, spacious seminar hall with the required fixtures and furniture. This is used to conduct special lectures, seminars, and various cultural programs and competitions.

Sports
The college has a large playground where students practice games like, Volleyball, Throw ball, Kho-Kho, Cricket, etc. The college has sufficient equipment for sports. Facilities for indoor games are also provided.


Gym
The college has a Gym facility for the students.


Alumni Associations
The College has an alumni association that helps the old students to keep in touch with the college. The alumni also help the college in many ways.

Parking Facility
The college has a sufficient parking facility manned by a security guard for staff and students.

Banks/ATMs
The college has an extension counter of Deepak Sahakari Bank Ltd is located in the campus. This facilitates fee transactions and financial transactions for staff and students.

Convenience Store
The college has a convenience store facility for students. (like photocopying facility and stationery etc.)

Cafeteria
The college has a canteen facility for staff and students.

The college has a Wi-Fi facility for the students and staff.
