The Central Law College, Salem - TCLC is a Private Law School, approved by the Bar Council of India (BCI) and affiliated to the Tamilnadu Dr.Ambedkar Law University (TNDALU) The College was established by Prof. R.V. Dhanapalan in 1984. During that period, the government began setting up Law Colleges across Southern India, including in cities like Madurai, Tiruchirappalli, and Coimbatore. However, the important district of Salem and its neighbouring areas were overlooked on which Prof. R V Dhanabalan worked and was successful in getting the permission to set up the college. The Central Law College is located at Yercaud Main Road, Kannankurichi, Salem, Tamil Nadu in absolutely green and pleasant surroundings away from the pollution and dust of the city. The College stands on a 8 Acres Campus. Salem Junction Railway Station is 11.5 Kms from the College Campus while Salem Airport is at a distance of 24.7 Kms.
The Central Law College is accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) The College offers 2 Under Graduation Courses and 1 Post Graduation Course (with 2 separate specilizations) as follows :Under Graduation Courses : 5 Years B.A.LL.B Integrated Course and the 3 Years LL.B Degree Based Course.Post Graduation Course : LL.M - Criminal Law and Criminal Justice Administration and LL.M.- Constitutional Law and Human Rights Among the many Facilities available on the Campus, the institution boasts a state-of-the-art Moot Court, fully equipped to provide students with a comprehensive approach to practicing law. This facility allows students to engage in proceedings that closely mirror real court scenarios. Through their participation, students develop essential skills such as drafting briefs (memorials), delivering oral arguments, and researching the work of distinguished judges, lawyers, and guest faculty. The Moot Court fosters the growth of professional competencies, equipping students with the tools they need for a successful legal career.
The library is considered the central hub of any academic institution, playing a crucial role in supporting academic activities, especially in law schools. It has been designed in alignment with the goals and objectives of Central Law College and is managed by a team of professionally trained library staff. The library boasts a collection of over 30,000 volumes that span a wide array of subjects, including textbooks, referenc
books, back issues of journals, reports, and current legal periodicals. It operates from 9:30 AM to 5:30 PM on all working days. With an open access system in place, the library ensures that readers can easily explore its resources. The Central Law College Library also aims to establish connections with other prominent libraries in and around Salem, providing inter-library access to help students find literature, information, and resources for research, general reference, and awareness of relevant catalogues.
To assist new students in becoming familiar with the library’s systems and services, an orientation program is conducted. This ensures that students can make the best use of available resources. The library has embraced computerization for both housekeeping and information retrieval. With an internet leased line connection, users can access a wide range of information through global computerized databases, not just in law but in other disciplines as well.
In line with its vision to establish an E-Law Library, the institution has introduced several initiatives. Access to Indian legal databases, such as MANUPATRA, has been made available to both students and faculty. Additionally, the library offers CD-ROM search capabilities and has acquired important databases like SCC-Online and AIR. Equipped with modern technology and Wi-Fi internet access, the library is fully air-conditioned, offering a comfortable and state-of-the-art environment for its users.
The College also has an English Language Lab which concentrates on the LSRW (Listening, Speaking, Reading & Writing) skills of the language which has a vital role in every student's life. The Lab is equipped with high-end Systems and Software.
