CHRIST (Deemed to be University) was born out of the educational vision of St Kuriakose Elias Chavara, an educationalist and social reformer of the nineteenth century in South India. He founded the first Catholic indigenous congregation, Carmelites of Mary Immaculate (CMI), in 1831 which administers CHRIST (Deemed to be University).
“CHRIST (Deemed to be University) was established as ‘Christ College’ in 1969. It undertook path-breaking initiatives in Indian higher education with the introduction of innovative and modern curricula, insistence on academic discipline, imparting of Holistic Education and adoption of global higher education practices with the support of creative and dedicated staff.”
The University Grants Commission (UGC) of India conferred Autonomy to Christ College in 2004 and identified it as an Institution with Potential for Excellence in 2006. In 2008 under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956, the Ministry of Human Resource Development of the Government of India, declared the institution a Deemed to be University, in the name and style of Christ University. One of the first institutions in India to be accredited in 1998 by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), Government of India, and subsequently in 2004, 2016, 2022 CHRIST (Deemed to be University) is currently accredited with ‘A+’ Grade. The University is ranked among top 100 universities in India at 67 in the NIRF India Ranking 2023 of Ministry of Education, Government of India.
The multi-disciplinary University which focuses on teaching, research and service offers Bachelor, Master and Doctoral programmes in humanities, social sciences, sciences, commerce, management, engineering, architecture, education, and law to about 30000 students. The University offers its programmes at four campus locations in Bangalore in Karnataka, at Lavasa in Pune in Maharashtra, and Ghaziabad in Delhi NCR.
The campus is a living example of harmonious multiculturalism with students from all the states and union territories and around 60 different countries. CHRIST (Deemed to be University) publishes six peer-reviewed research journals and has published more than 300 books in Kannada and English. A promoter of sports, music and literary activities, it is a nurturing ground for creative excellence.

The Placement Office facilitates the students' exploration of employment and new career avenues. It also helps students with career planning through counselling, where they gather information about themselves in terms of their interests, aptitudes, and abilities to choose their careers more effectively. The objective of the Placement Office is to nurture the professional development of the students by training them in employability enhancement skills such as resume building, interview skills and group discussion techniques, logical reasoning and aptitude skills which in turn help the students to land desired job profiles and apply to prestigious postgraduate and professional schools. The University has state-of-the-art facilities that make campus recruitment a pleasant experience.

Scholarships
OFFICE OF FINANCIAL AID AND SCHOLARSHIPS
Objective
The office is set up to recognise meritorious students in academics and co-curricular activities by means of awards and scholarships during the course of their academic pursuits in CHRIST (Deemed to be University). The office will also support deserving students who may have to opt out of pursuing higher education due to economic reasons.
The office offers the following categories of awards and scholarships
Awards
Award for Excellence: The award for excellence is instituted to recognise students who excel in academics and are toppers in their respective combinations. The award will be presented to students from all three years and courses and for all PG Courses.
Award for proficiency: The award for proficiency is in recognition of students who are diligent in their academics and holistic education. This is a nominative award based on the recommendation of the heads of the departments. The decision of the office is final.
Award for Co-curricular Activities: The award is instituted for all final year students who have actively participated in sports/cultural and club activities during the course of their studies. This is a nominative award based on the recommendation of the concerned teacher in charge. The selection list will be displayed in the month of March.
Scholarships
Merit Scholarship: The merit scholarship is initiated for meritorious students based on their performance at the pre-entry level and subsequent performance in various tests and examinations.
The student will be awarded a merit scholarship in September each year. In the first year, the scholarship will be decided on the merit of the pre-entry marks, mid-semester test and attendance in regular classes. Merit scholarships for the consecutive years will be decided based on his/her performance in one end-semester and two mid-semester examinations of each year.
The scholarship will consist of a percentage refund of fees. Each combination will be considered for two merit scholarships. Combinations with more than one section will be considered proportionately.
The fee refund / reduction will be considered as follows.
Students in the fee range of
Upto to Rs. 10,000 - 50%
Rs. 10,000-Rs 25,000 - 25%
Above Rs. 25,000 - 10%
Scholarship for Financial Assistance: Students choosing to avail of this scholarship must apply to the Office of Awards and Scholarships with supporting documents. A student who enrolls in the first year degree or P.G. course who is economically weak but diligent, especially from rural areas is eligible to apply. He/she should furnish enough evidence of his/her eligibility enclosing community/ income certificate from an official not below the ranks of a revenue inspector. Applications will be scrutinised, and a final interview with or without a parent/guardian by the scholarship committee will decide his/her eligibility.
Students seeking this scholarship at the time of admission are expected to fill up a separate application for scholarship available along with their main application form and submit to the Office of Scholarships for perusal. The scholarship committee will then interview them on the allotted dates, and their concessions will be decided prior to the payment of their fees. The percentage of concession for different categories is recommended as follows:
Self financing courses - 0-50%
Others- -0-90%
A bond to the effect that the student will refund the scholarship amount if he or she leaves the university in between is to be executed.
For subsequent years, application forms must be availed from the Office of Awards and Scholarships from November 30th to 22nd December and submitted to the Office by the 20th of January for scrutiny.
Installment Facility
Students unable to pay their fees in one installment can avail this facility by filling a prescribed application form available in the Office of Admissions. Such applications can be processed through the office of scholarships on specified dates. This facility needs to be applicable only in cases where the total fee is above Rs.10000/-. The students must pay the installments on the days prescribed by the office in one or two installments.
Installments for PG courses will be monitored by the departments.
Alumni Association Scholarships
Alumni Association of CHRIST (Deemed to be University) also helps economically weak students through the Alumni Fund. Students seeking support can approach the Alumni Office, Room No :122, Innovation Centre, Ist Floor, IV Block.
Facilities in campuses
Library and Information center
Since teaching and learning at CHRIST is research led, the Library and Information Centres work round the clock. All the campuses have multi-disciplinary libraries well stacked with books and journals. Students can access information on any book or journal article across campuses online. Each student is given a unique identification number for this purpose. The library timing is from morning 8:00 am to 9:00pm in the night. Placements & Career Guidance
The university is known for the training and placement services it offers to the students. Each department has a placement representative and they organise career development programmes and upskilling trainings for interested students. By the final year, recruiters conduct skills assessment and interviews for campus selection with good salary packages.
Health and Wellness
There are medical centres with qualified doctors and nurses with ambulance service on standby in all campuses. The students’ wellbeing both mental and physical is given paramount importance on campus and students can approach counsellors for guidance and comfort for their mental health. All campuses are adequately staffed with wellbeing specialists. Strict professional confidentiality is maintained in transactions between students’ and wellbeing specialists.
IT Services
Christ university campuses are a networked space with all systems and structures digitised for security, easy access and administration. From the admission process, online classes, live streaming of events to other campuses and the public to campus wide surveillance, the efficient IT services team makes sure every computer and projector on campuses run efficiently without a glitch.
College Hostel / Accommodation
The University campuses provide secure accommodation to students, both male and female. In the Central Campus, there are separate girl's and boy's accommodation facilities. There is round the clock security personnel posted at the entrance of each facility and CCTV surveillance in common areas. The terms of residency and etiquette laid out by the hostel wardens are strictly adhered to here. There are restrictions in the number of intake annually and parents and wards are advised to opt for the hostel facility during the admission process itself. There are also safe hostel facilities outside the campus within walking distance from the university.
Labs
There are multiple labs affiliated to Schools on each campus of CHRIST. There are science labs, computer labs, engineering labs, language labs, performances studios, Media labs, incubation and innovation Centres to fortify the research culture.
Green Campus
For many years now, CHRIST campuses have been identified by civic authorities for its aesthetic landscapes, preservation of flora and fauna and sustainable green initiatives of reducing, recycling and recharging. Garbage disposal is based on garbage segregation at source, water and paper are cycled and rain water harvesting makes sure that aqueducts, both natural and manmade are recharged. CHRIST has a unique Green audit annually to take account of the green ecosystem in the campuses.
Multi Purpose Auditorium
Each campus of CHRIST, boasts of one main auditorium with a large seating capacity and state of the art facilities. There are also mini auditoriums, amphitheatres, open air theatres and galleries for a plethora of academic and cultural events that are hosted everyday on campuses.
Transport Facilities
Mobility is a problem in all the major cities of India. In order to address this issue and support the students and faculty of CHRIST, the University provides bus services to day scholars. The facility can also be used for inter campus visits, industrial visits and academic field trips. Transport facilities are also provided for invited resource persons to the campus.
Cafeteria / Dining Services
The student demography of CHRIST is multi-cultural and multinational. In order to cater to the variegated culinary cultures of the student population, the campuses of CHRIST are dotted with multi cuisine eateries and kiosks serving vegetarian and non-vegetarian food. There are also formal sit down dining spaces hosted by the Department of Hotel Management in the Central Campus and Hospitality facility of each campus. Hygiene, nutrition and affordability are the unique selling propositions of these eateries.
Recreational Areas
The sprawling CHRIST campuses have plenty of nooks, corners, pergolas, green islands and shady trees where ideations, analysis, jam sessions, board games and innovative ideas happen. There are places for simple gupshup to intellectual debates, dance, song, theatre practises and special day celebrations.
Play Ground
CHRIST firmly believes in the saying, “All work and no play makes jack a dull man”. Since whole person development is what the university strives for, extracurricular activities are as important as academic activities. There are facilities for both indoor and outdoor sports in all campuses. League competitions and tournaments are peppered throughout the year on campuses.
Security
Dedicated and disciplined round the clock security is the hallmark of the campuses. They are disciplined, polite and at the same time duty bound to strict rules and regulations, which they enforce on campus. They are the custodians of peace and security on campuses and they stand out with their mental agility and physical presence in their posts.
Rain Water and Sewage Water Treatment Unit
One of the Core Values of CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Bangalore is Social Responsibility. The relentless drive towards its vision of ‘Excellence and Service’ not only reflects in its academic achievements, but also in its contribution towards society. Under the Centre for Social Action (CSA), the faculty, staff and students actively involve themselves in various causes, of which Rainwater-harvesting, Water Conservation and Recycling is a major focus.
