The College of Veterinary Science, Tirupati was started on 15th July, 1955 at Bapatla under the administrative control of Department of Animal Husbandry under affiliation to Andhra University with an intake of 48 students. It was inaugurated by the then Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Sri B. Gopala Reddy. In December1957 the college was shifted to Tirupati and was brought under the control of APAU (now ANGRAU). Upon formation of the new Veterinary University in 2005, the College thereafter came under the control of Sri Venkateswara Veterinary University, Tirupati.
The College of Veterinary Science is located on Chittoor Road, Prakasam Nagar Colony, Sri Padmavati Mahila Visvavidyalayam, Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh, India.
The College of Veterinary Science has received approval from the University Grants Commission (UGC) and is affiliated with Sri Venkateswara Veterinary University (SVUU) Tirupati. The College is approved by The Veterinary Council of India (VCI).
The college has been offering UG, PG and Doctoral programs in the field of Veterinary Sciences such as B.V.Sc, M.V.Sc., and Ph.D. The curriculum of the UG course is designed as per the norms and regulations formulated by the Veterinary Council of India. The minimum eligibility to apply for B.V.Sc. course is 10+2 and for M.V.Sc. course is a Bachelor’s degree in the relevant field. However, a candidate shall have a master’s degree for admission to its Ph.D. program. The selection of candidates in the UG course offered by the College of Veterinary Sciences, Tirupati is done through A.P EAMCET. While admission to the postgraduate courses is based on the entrance test conducted by the college.
College of Veterinary Sciences provides various facilities to cater to the needs of students and faculty members. They include Library, Computer Centre, Hostels-separate Boys & Girls, Hospital, etc. The college conducts various Extra-Curricular Activities where Students get exposure to participating in NCC, NSS, study tours, inter-college sports meet, and cultural meets organized by the college.
College of Veterinary Sciences, Tirupati, has a dedicated Placement Cell that aims to provide Training and Placement opportunities to students. The college also provides scope and opportunity for internships to students for the duration of 1 year on a monthly stipend basis. The cell also gives training and imparts knowledge for the Master’s degree in the field of Veterinary Sciences. Ph.D. candidates also get a monthly stipend for the research area chosen by them as per the laid terms and conditions of the institute.
College of Veterinary Sciences provides scholarships to deserving students in association with the State Government. The state government is responsible for providing many scholarships to different category of students like OBC Candidates (INR 962 per month), SC/ST Candidates (INR 1200 per month) and National Talent Scholarship Examination by ICAR (INR 1000). Candidates can avail themselves of these scholarships by providing the necessary certificates and documents.
