D. Y. Patil University was established in the year 2005. D.Y. Patil Education Society is the sponsoring society of the University, which is located at Kolhapur, Maharashtra. This college was initially affiliated to the Shivaji University, Kolhapur and later on affiliated to the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences, Nashik. The Department of Secondary and Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resources Development, on the recommendation of UGC (University Grants Commission), has accorded the Deemed to be University status to D. Y. Patil Education Society (DYPES) consisting of D.Y. Patil Medical College, Kolhapur.

D.Y. Patil Education Society, popularly known as D.Y. Patil University, is a self-financed deemed to be University. The society started its Medical College in 1989. It is a reputed medical university of Maharashtra. The University got its name after the great and brilliant educationist Padmashree Dr. D.Y. Patil. It is providing with some of the finest and fantastic facilities by availing which a student can be able to become a great doctor in the near future. There are 14 collaborative faculty members and 20 full time research scholars working under difference projects sanctioned by DST, DRDO, CSIR, New Delhi and BRNS, Mumbai.

Admission Criteria

MBBS and B.Sc (Nursing) Admission

DY Patil Education Society offers MBBS degree at the Undergraduate level for a duration of five and a half years. At undergraduate level, the college also offers Bachelor’s degree in the field of Nursing, which is of a period of four years. Post Basic B.Sc programme is also provided by the college for which the duration period is two years.

Candidates must have passed the Higher Secondary Examination or the Indian School Certificate Examination which is equivalent to 10+2 Higher Secondary Examination comprising of Physics, Chemistry and Biology or any other elective subjects with English at a level not less than core course of English as prescribed by the National Council of Educational Research and Training after the introduction of the 10+2+3 years educational structure as recommended by the National Committee on education. All or any such examination must be recognized by the University for the purpose of admission.

MD and MS Admission

The college also offers Postgraduate Medical Courses like MD and MS degrees under various specializations. Both MD and MS programs are offered with the duration of three years.A candidate applying for these courses must have completed the MBBS degree recognized by Medical Council of India.Eligible candidates will have to appear in NEET PG conducted by the National Board of Education (NBE) in order to get admission to the MD/MS programs.

Lecture theater shall be provided with necessary independent audio-visual aids including overhead projector, slide projector, LCD projector and a microphone. These lecture theaters shall be shared by all the departments in a programmed manner. There shall be provision for E-class. Lecture halls must have facilities for conversion into E-class/Virtual class for teaching.The medical college is having field practice area in Urban settings at urban health centre (UHTC) at Kasaba Bawada covering population of 14520 and Rural settings at Rural health centre (RHTC) at village Ghotawade (28 kms) covering 10424 population. The Institute has also attached with 4 Primary health centres at PHC Kale, PHC Rashiwade, PHC Ispurli & PHC Shiroli. Also Rural hospital attachment is present with RH Kagal, SDH Kodoli and RH Pargoan .

Various services provided at these centres include daily OPD, ANC clinic, Immunization, Health education sessions, Family Planning, School Health, Basic Laboratory services and participation in National Health programmes.There shall be an air-conditioned Central Library with seating arrangement for at least 300 students for reading and having good lighting and ventilation and space for stocking and display of books and journals. There shall be one room for 150 students inside and one room for 150 students outside.
