The Tamil Nadu government had announced the proposal for Government College of Engineering, Srirangam, Tiruchirappalli district, during the year 2013. The institute was built completely at an estimated cost of Rs. 60.01 crore. Established in 2013, this was the Tenth state-owned Government Engineering College in Tamil Nadu.

Government College of Engineering, Srirangam is a well-known institution for its UG courses in Engineering which are offered in Full Time mode.
