About

Established in 2015, the Government Dental College, Thrissur is one of the premier Dental Colleges in Kerala, providing quality education in dentistry and catering to the needs of people especially the indigent sections from Thrissur, Palakkad and Malappuram districts.As per G.O(MS) No.263/2012/H&FWD Dated 07-08-2012 administrative sanction was accorded for the establishment of new dental college attached to Government Medical College, Thrissur. Subsequently Government accorded permission for the Dental College to function with 9 departments with an annual intake of 50 students. As per G.O(MS) No.99/2015/H&FWD dated 12-05-2012, 51 posts of teaching and nonteaching staffs were created. Later the college started functioning with effect from 2015.

The G.O (Rt) No.617/2014/H&FWD Dated 22-02-2014 accorded administrative sanction for the construction of Dental College, Thrissur (1st phase) by appointing M/s HLL Life care Ltd, Thiruvananthapuram as the project management consultancy agency. The first phase construction has been completed and Thrissur dental college is currently functioning in the new building situated in the campus sprawling in a 5 acre land, since 2016. The college is designed with five floors and an area of 18059 sq.mtrs with future expansion and development including a postgraduate wing and research facilities envisioned.

Over the years, our college has earned the reputation of being one of the best dental colleges in the state. It was formed with the objective of providing quality education in dentistry. From its inception the mission of the Govt. Dental College, Thrissur has been to improve the oral health care of the population. Our training programs are focused on the provision of quality educational experiences to train clinically competent dentists to address the oral health issues of the community. We achieve this through service, training, teaching and research.The college is affiliated with the Kerala University of Health Sciences from the first batch onwards i.e, 2015 admission. The institution offers dental and oral health care education at multiple levels. The course offered by the college is recognized by Dental Council of India (DCI).

Our nine fully fledged Departments render all types of oral, dental and maxillofacial specialty treatments to children, adults and those with special health care needs. Pre clinical Conservative lab & Phantom head lab, Pre clinical Prosthodontics lab & Phantom head lab, Pre clinical Orthodontics and Pedodontics lab, Tooth morphology, Oral histology and Oral Pathology labs are also functioning in the college.

   • Strong component of practical/clinical work. Departments like Conservative Dentistry & Endodontics have a high patient load (150+ OP patients daily in some).

   • Public Health Dentistry department has mobile dental van & outreach clinics to urban & rural health centres. So good exposure to varied community settings.

5. Cost/Fees Advantage

   • Being a government college, the fees are likely to be much lower than private dental colleges. (Though I don’t have exact figures here, this is a general advantage)

6. Hostel & Student Facilities

   • Hostel is available for both male and female students.

   • Other amenities such as library, labs, auditorium etc are good.

Government Dental College Thrissur BDS 2025-2026 Fee is ₹ 83,360 for the entire duration, with tuition fees of ₹ 83,360.

Scholarship

• NSP (PM-USP) Yojana 80% in Class 12, AICTE recognized UG/PG courses, parental income ≤ ₹4.5 Lakhs ₹82,000 per annum
  Must be in a regular course, maintain 50% marks and 75% attendance

Proposed building is a five storied structure with total plinth area of 18059sqm with two courtyards for better ventilation and air circulation. The entrance lobby leads to the patient waiting area of the clinics. Each floor has two departments.

Transport

• There are buses running to “Medical College” direction from Thrissur bus stands (Vadakke Stand, Sakthan Stand etc.).
  
• Sometimes buses to Peringandoor itself may be infrequent, so many students use buses to nearby stops (Medical College stop) and then autos.
