Marks for admission. The University strictly follows the eligibility criteria of UGC norms.

Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science Engineering Entrance Examination (HITSEEE)

   An online Entrance Examination (HITSEEE) is conducted every year at various cities across India. Students seeking admission for undergraduate programmes have to register online to appear for the Entrance Examination on dates specified in the media advertisements. The time duration of the entrance examination is 2 hours. Students are required to answer 120 questions covering Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. Based on the entrance examination score and marks in the qualifying examination, a rank list is prepared for admission into U.G (Engineering & Technology) Programmes.

How to Apply

   Students, having the qualifying marks, can apply to any one of the undergraduate programmes offered by the University. The applications should be submitted at the admission office before the deadline mentioned in the advertisement. This does not apply for those who apply for non-professional programmes and research related programmes.

Special Admission Programmes

    The University recognizes the need for providing educational opportunities for people of widely varying ages and backgrounds. Therefore, special admission programmes are available for potentially successful students from disadvantaged, culturally deprived, or economically impoverished segments of the society. For further details, the Head Office can be contacted. Admission to Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science thus, is purely non-discriminatory.

Re-admission

    Students who are initially enrolled at Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science but did not attend the particular semester/term can re-register, provided they left with good conduct and have not enrolled in any other institution after leaving Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science. Such students may be readmitted by submitting a Readmission Form. Students who have been dismissed either from Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science or any other institution will not be readmitted under any circumstances.

B. Tech.Programme

Admission will be based on merit, considering the Entrance exam marks along with Plus Two / HSC / Intermediate / equivalent examinations marks etc. as per university norms.

Eligibility Criteria:

Eligibility to Register for Online Entrance Examination – B. Tech. Course.

1. A Pass in (10+2) or equivalent examination with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects along with one of the Chemistry / Bio-Technology / Biology Technical Vocational subject.
Obtained at least 50% marks (45% in case of candidate belonging to reserved category) in the above subjects taken together with minimum 60% in Mathematics.

2.Any other examination of any university or authority accepted by this University as equivalent of plus two.

3. Cambridge norms (General Certificate of Education – GCE)
The candidates intending to join first year E & T courses should have studied General Certificate of Education (GCE), Cambridge International Examinations. And required to have obtained ‘Advanced Level passes in Physics, Chemistry, Biology / Mathematics and English at AS level.

Vocational Stream

HSC – Vocational Candidates: Candidates who have qualified with HSC (vocational stream) with engineering / technical vocational subjects and any one or two of the related subjects like Mathematics, Physics or Chemistry are eligible provided they have passed their qualifying examinations and obtained minimum aggregate of 50% marks in the vocational & related subjects.

Eligibility to Register for Online Entrance Examination – B. Arch

1. No candidate shall be admitted to architecture course unless she/ he has passed an examination at the end of the 10+2 scheme of examination with Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics subjects or passed 10+3 Diploma Examination with Mathematics as compulsory subject.

2. The candidate needs to qualify an Aptitude Test in Architecture i.e. NATA or JEE

Online Examination:

1. Students awaiting for Higher Secondary / +2 Examinations results are eligible to register for online Entrance Exam.

2.Only Indian Nationals and those who have done their Plus two / HSC in Schools in India are eligible to apply for Online Entrance Exam Registration.

3.Foreign Nationals / NRIs are exempted from Online Entrance Examination.

Age Limit: Upper age limit will be 19 years of age as on first of July of the year of application.

ELIGIBILITY FOR LATERAL ENTRY – II YR B.TECH. PROGRAMMES

Eligibility Norms:

Candidates satisfying the following rules alone are eligible for admission to Second year Lateral Entry B.Tech. Degree Courses :

Diploma Candidates

   A pass with minimum 50% of marks in any one of the Diploma in appropriate branch of Engineering / Technology of the State Board of Technical Education and Training, Tamilnadu / equivalent prescribed for admission to the Degree Course.

B.Sc. Candidates

   A pass with minimum 50% of marks in any recognized Bachelor’s Degree in Science of minimum 3 years duration with 10+2+3 years pattern and studied Mathematics at +2 level or studied Mathematics as core or ancillary subjects at B.Sc. level alone are eligible for admission to B.Tech. Degree Course.

Preamble

The purpose of theTraining & Placement policyis to define the overall structure & process of skill acquisition programmes and the Placement/Internship drives facilitated by Training & Placement office and to structure the roles & responsibilities of the students.

Training

A student opted for Placement should attend the regular trainings on Communication, Aptitude, Technical and Company Specific training programs organised by HITS

Students shall compulsorily attend training and 90% attendance is mandatory. This gives the eligibility to appear for placements.

Based on the requirement the individual department may also organise training programmes on specific domain based topics. Such trainings shall be brought to the office of the Department of Training and Placement.

The students must practise the training courses given through the portal or otherwise and better equip themselves with the knowledge and skills required.

Placement

The placement office shall arrange on and off campus drives of reputed organisations for the students in all identified sectors.

The students registering for campus drives shall attend the campus drive mandatorily.

Consecutive absence for two drives shall lead to disqualification from attending future drives.

Consecutive failure in 3 drives shall lead to disqualification from Placements.

For the preference of the placement offer to the students the following categories are identified

Categories of Companies:

Super Dream: With packages higher than 7 lakhs per annum

Dream:With Packages higher than 4.5 lakhs per annum. Core companies are also treated as Dream companies regardless of salary packages

Regular: Recruit in large numbers across all branches of engineering for IT application development, maintenance and testing roles with packages less than 4.5 lakhs per annum

Rules regarding offers made

Any offer made by a company to a student will have to be accepted by the student and will be out of placement process except as detailed below.

A student receiving an offer from a Super Dream company is out of all further placement procedure/formalities and cannot participate in the process of any other company

A student receiving an offer from a Dream Company, Core Company or an IT product company becomes ineligible to participate in any other process.

Students who receive an offer from only an IT services company can participate in two future Super Dream, Dream companies.

Students who receive offer from more than one company in Day 1 have to choose their preferred company within 2 days of the end of Day 1

Any communication to the industry by a student should go through only the Placement office

***The student should accept the offer made by the organisation

***Exceptions can be given based on the request from the students and requirements /opportunities from the organisations

Invitation Process

Campus Placement Process to commence in the month of July.

Super Dream and Dream Companies are invited to be part of the process in the months of July and August known as Day 0

Top IT Services recruiters (recruiting large numbers) are invited to conduct their processes in the month of August / September in a single slot simultaneously known as Day 1

Other IT Services recruiters are invited to participate after September

Core companies are to be invited after October with a few exceptions

The individual dates within Day 0 and Day 1 are allotted based on Job Designations, Salary Packages, Student Perception and Past Relationship with the organisation

Companies with significantly higher salary packages and looking to recruit in numbers will be offered earlier dates in Day 0

Companies visiting the campus continuously for the past three years will be offered preferential dates

Companies who have Centres of Excellence/ Incubation Centres, will be given preferential dates

Details of the process

Every participating organisation shares their job profile, designation, eligibility branches and compensation package with Placement office well in advance along with eligibility criteria.

All the eligible students who are interested in the role offered have to apply through placement portal to attend the process

Only those students who have applied for the company and meet the eligibility are allowed to participate in the process.

Students who become eligible between the calling of interest and date of recruitment can send a mail to Placement office

Any eligible student who has indicated interest but does not attend the selection process will become ineligible for further placement. Exemptions will be decided by the Placement Office based on the merits of the case.

Departments shall help the placement department with leads / threads for specific core and IT sectors

All the placement coordinators of the department must meet the Head Placement and training at least once in 15 days in person and discuss issues related to training and placements.

If the students have specific request or raise concerns regarding training and placements procedure, they can approach the Department Placement coordinator, Head of Department and resolve the issues in coordination with the office of placement

Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science, Chennai has a boys’ hostel facility which provides good hostel accommodation for the students. HITS Chennai boys’ hostel has air-conditioned and standard, well-furnished rooms with attached restrooms. A kitchen and spacious dining area are also available in the hostel. 

Girls Hostel

HITS Chennai has a separate hostel for girls which provides good hostel accommodation for the students. Hindustan University girls’ hostel provides students with a range of facilities and opportunities. Security, communication and dispensary services are also available round-the-clock.

Medical/Hospital

HITS Chennai has a campus clinic that is available 24x7 for all the students and staff. It provides free medical consultations for students and staff. The clinic has the availability of doctors and staff nurses at the university campus on all working days. A 24-hour ambulance facility is available on campus for emergency cases.

Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science, Chennai has a well-maintained gymnasium equipped with modern gym equipment for workouts and is made available to students.

Library

HITS Chennai has a Central Library and Departmental Libraries and HITS Book-Bank which collectively support the teaching, research and extension programmes of the university. All students, faculty members, and institute employees are entitled to use the Hindustan University library facilities by enrolling in membership. Furthermore, the library has a large collection of books on Engineering, Science, and Humanities through its various divisions.

Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science, Chennai has indoor and outdoor sports facilities for students. HITS Chennai facilities include sports equipment for games like football, basketball, cricket, volleyball, badminton, baseball, hockey and tennis.

HITS Chennai has a well-equipped IT infrastructure and all buildings are connected with optical fibre with single and multi-mode covering a distance of around 2000 metres. The labs, staff rooms and offices are connected with LAN and internet.

The entire Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science campus is Wi-Fi enabled with a high-speed internet connection to allow the students and staff members to access the internet no matter wherever they are. The Wi-Fi connectivity is provided through more than 158 Aruba access points, including indoor and outdoor access points. Wi-Fi is available in all of the hostels, libraries, halls, auditoriums, canteens, and common areas.

Banks/ATMs

Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science, Chennai has an Indian Overseas Bank that is situated within the university campus to cater to the banking needs of the students and staff. It provides assistance in opening savings accounts and depositing institute-related fees and dues since its inception on campus. Previously, the bank had installed an ATM beside the main gate of the university.

Convenience Store

HITS Chennai has a convenience store facility for students like photocopying facility and stationery.

   The University is on the main arterial road to the Chennai city. The University operates a fleet of 50 buses to all the important city spots for the benefit of students and staff. The services of University buses are utilized for industrial visits and excursions. Comfortable air conditioned buses are also available.

HITS TRANSPORT FACILITY

   HITS makes student commuting, both within and outside the institution, as comfortable and convenient as possible. The Institute's buses transport students from all locations in and around Chennai. This enables day scholars to arrive on time.
