IIEST, Shibpur (Erstwhile "Bengal Engineering College") ranks 27th in NIRF-2021 among Engineering Institutes. It is the first college to become Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology (IIEST) in India in 2014. The Institute has a rich history. It is empowering the nation since 1856. Considering the year of establishment, it is the 3rd engineering college in India but considering the year of graduation it is the 2nd oldest engineering college in India. It has 16 departments and 8 schools. It has over 250 faculty members and a student strength of over 4000.

IIEST Shibpur is situated at Botanic Garden, Shibpur, Howrah-711103, spread across a 136-acre green campus near the iconic Indian Botanic Garden. Admission Procedure

Admission Criteria

To be eligible for admission to the B.Tech program at IIEST Shibpur, candidates must fulfill the following requirements:

• Candidates must have secured at least 75% marks in the 12^th class examination, or be in the top 20 percentile in the 12^th class / Qualifying examination. For SC/ST/PwD candidates the qualifying marks would be 65% in the 12^th class / qualifying examination.
• Students should have passed qualifying examination with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects along with one of the Chemistry/ Biotechnology/ Biology/ Technical Vocational subject.

To be eligible for admission to the B.Arch program at IIEST Shibpur, candidates must have passed 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics as compulsory subjects and have a minimum aggregate of 45% marks from a recognized board of education.

To be eligible for admission to the M.Tech program at IIEST Shibpur, candidates must fulfill the following requirements:

• B.E/B.Tech degree in relevant discipline from a recognized university or institute.
• Candidates must have scored at least 65% marks or a CGPA of 6.5 (6.0 CGPA / 55% aggregate for reserved category).
• Candidates must have appeared for the GATE entrance examination.

The Executive Committee, AC, shall put forward to the Director ten names for selection of five members from the alumni.

The Institute has a hospital to cater to the needs of the campus inmates with medical officers and other supporting staffs. It provides 24 hours ambulance service. Besides, the hospital has an ID Ward to effectively isolate students suffering from infectious diseases such as chicken pox, mumps, measles etc. Outdoor treatment is available in two shifts: morning and afternoon except Saturday afternoon, Sunday and holidays. Serious cases are generally referred/ transferred either to any city hospital or to the Students' Health Home, Kolkata, and the institute having Universal Membership for the later. The Institute has also initiated Contributory Medical Scheme from September 2015 for the benefit of its employees and their dependents. The medical unit has a very important role for smooth running of this medical scheme.
