Jannayak Karpoori Thakur Medical College and Hospital (JKTMCH), Madhepura, is situated near Jajhat, Sabaila, on Singheshwar Road along NH-106 in the Madhepura district of Bihar. The institution is well connected by both roadways and railways, with Dauram Madhepura Railway Station located about 5 km away and Darbhanga Airport approximately 115 km from the campus.
Spread over 25 acres of land, around 68% of the campus is greenfield, offering a serene and eco-friendly environment. The college was earlier known as Government Medical College, Madhepura, and was renamed Jannayak Karpoori Thakur Medical College and Hospital through a departmental resolution (No. 326(10)) on 1st June 2015. The foundation stone was laid on 16 March 2008, and the entire complex was constructed by Larsen & Toubro (L&T) Construction.
The hospital attached to the college is equipped with 500 beds, each with oxygen facilities, and includes specialized units such as ICU, ICCU, NICU, PICU, and SICU. Designed with modern infrastructure and technology, the hospital provides state-of-the-art healthcare services free of cost to people from Madhepura, Supaul, and Saharsa districts in the Koshi region. Free blood testing, cancer screening, kidney dialysis, and CT scan facilities are also available. The hospital services were inaugurated by Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Nitish Kumar on 7 March 2020.
The college admitted its first batch of 100 MBBS students in 2020, and currently, three batches are enrolled. For students’ overall development, facilities such as a gymnasium, indoor stadium, and spaces for basketball, badminton, volleyball, billiards, football, and carrom are provided.
JKTMCH houses multiple academic departments including Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Pathology, Microbiology, Pharmacology, Forensic Medicine, Orthopedics, General Surgery, General Medicine, Gynecology and Obstetrics, Ophthalmology, Dermatology, Psychiatry, Pediatrics, Dentistry, Anesthesia, Tuberculosis and Chest Diseases, Radiology, and Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation. A blood bank was inaugurated on 21 September 2022 to support medical and surgical needs.
A separate building has also been constructed for B.Sc Nursing studies, with academic sessions expected to commence soon. The Central Library holds a rich collection of the latest medical books and journals. The entire campus is Wi-Fi enabled (1 Gbps), and classrooms are equipped with modern OAT models. All rooms across the college and hospital buildings are fully air-conditioned, ensuring a comfortable learning and working environment.
