Kanyakumari Government Medical College was established in the year 2003 and it was earlier known as Govt. T.B Hospital.  The Govt. T.B. Hospital campus at Asaripallam, was selected as the site for the proposed Government Medical College and as per the Medical Council of India's instructions that the medical college and hospital should occupy the same campus, there is also a 500-bed hospital. The first batch of MBBS commenced in the year 2004.  It is also known by various others names like KGMC, KGMCH, or Government Medical College Kanyakumari is a medical education institution in Asaripallam, in the city of Nagercoil, Tamil Nadu, South India.  Dr. V. Paramashivan is heading the College as the Dean.

The Kanyakumari Government Medical College  is spread over an area of more than 100 acres of land which is located in the serene surroundings in Asaripallam, Nagercoil district, Tamil Nadu.  The college and the hospital are funded and managed by the Government of Tamil Nadu.

The KGMC is affiliated to The Tamilnadu Dr. MGR Medical University, Chennai and recognized by National Medical Commission (NMC). 

It has an annual intake of 150 seats in MBBS, 43 seats in 7 disciplines of Post-Graduate studies and 5 seats in 2 disciplines of super- Specialization studies.  Nearly 500 medical students and many paramedic students are in training in this institution at any time.  The accepted entrance exams are NEET, NEET PG.

Apart from MBBS, KGMCH also offers a diploma in Nursing (GNM) and a diploma in Medical Lab Technology (DMLT), 4 year Bachelor of Science (B.Sc Paramedical) in Renal Dialysis technology.  Postgraduate courses are being offered since 2018 -2019 in General Medicine, General surgery, Anaesthesia, Obstetrics and Gynaecology,  Paediatrics, Orthopaedics, Emergency Medicine, Ophthalmology and Otorhinolaryngology.

KGMCH has very good infrastructure with Spacious Classrooms, 175-seater Lecture Halls, Examination rooms, Demonstration rooms, Seminar halls and Department-wise Faculty Rooms,Departmental museums,well-equipped Laboratories, Separate hostels with good infrastructure and hygienic food with recreational facilities are available for boys and girls, Sports facilities, a well-equipped Co-operative Store and a Cafeteria are open during college hours within the campus.  The college has very well-stocked library facility with an excellent collection of medical books and journals, back volumes, Atlases, Dictionaries, Directories, Encyclopaedias, Technical Reports. There are separate Reading rooms and the E- library has good Internet facility. The college also has pre-clinical, para-clinical and clinical disciplines.

The associate Multi-Speciality Government Hospital is open to public 24-hours throughout the year.  It serves as the Tertiary Care Centre for the district providing top class health care in all fields of medicine with latest technology medical equipment and services.  A 24-hour Police station is present within the campus along with a mortuary. The drugs dispensary is also available.

Admission Procedure

The Kanyakumari Government Medical College, Asaripallam admission process is primarily based on the NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) exam scores. Candidates who qualify in NEET-UG are then eligible to participate in the Tamil Nadu state-level counselling conducted by the Directorate of Medical Education (DME).
