About the kuvempu university

Kuvempu University an affiliating University established in 1987. It is a State University recognized by UGC under 2(f) and 12(b). The University has been named after great Kannada writer Shri KUVEMPU and has achieved a distinctive academic profile and a cultural identity of its own. Interestingly, the features of its identity seem to have emerged out of the multifaceted personality of Kuvempu, the great doyen of Kannada literature, a Jnanapitha awardee and one among the most significant cultural figures of modern India.

Kuvempu University is a confluence of the local and the global; of the regional and the pan-Indian; of the sustenance provided by tradition and the dynamism provided by modernity; of a deep sense of commitment to the socially and culturally disadvantaged and an equally deep commitment to excellence. The emblem of the university has a mythical animal with the trunk of an elephant and the body of a swan. This mythical animal, called Gajahamsa is commonly found in the Vijayanagara and the Keladi sculpture and temple art. It symbolizes the integration of knowledge and wealth. The jurisdiction of the university spreads over the districts of Shivamogga and Chikkamagaluru. It is a university with a distinctive academic profile, blending in itself commitment to rural ethos in modern spirit. The university offers under-graduate, post- graduate and Ph.D programmes in a wide range of disciplines. It has 35 Post-graduate Departments in the Faculties of Arts, Commerce, Education, and Science and Technology. The University has its headquarters at Jnana Sahyadri campus. It sprawls over an area of 230 acres of a lush green, picturesque locale providing the right ambience for higher education. The main buildings of the university have been constructed on small hillocks, thus blending naturally with the landscape. The entire campus area is free from any form of pollution. Kuvempu University, Shankaraghatta Admission Process

Kuvempu University Admissions 2024: The university offers admissions to undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programmes. Interested candidates must satisfy Kuvempu University eligibility criteria and fill out the application form from the official website. Kuvempu University admissions are offered based on the performance of the candidate in the entrance examination conducted by the university. For MBA and MCA programmes, candidates qualifying for Karnataka PGCET are exempted from the entrance examination. Kuvempu University Placement Cell

A functioning Placement Cell operates within the University to help students who are preparing to get on-campus job offers. Apart from this, many departments conduct their placement training and workshops for students. To motivate students for administrative careers in the central and state governments of India, the University provides training for Civil Services as well as other competitive examinations. The training focuses on academic counseling and skill development.

Kuvempu University Placement Process

The university invites companies to visit the campus for the placements.

The companies/organisations give confirmation about the date and time of their visit to the campus.

Students are given details about the placement date and the names of the companies/organisations.

The companies/organisations conduct the St. Philomena's College placement drive on the mentioned date.

A brief talk (pre-placement talk) about the working of the company and the job role offered by them is shared with the students.

Interested candidates must apply to the company with their CVs.

Shortlisted candidates are called for group discussions and campus interviews.

Job offers are granted to candidates who are recruited by companies/organisations.

Scholarships:

Kuvempu University gives utmost importance to student welfare. They have hence come up with a directorate of student welfare that helps to monitor student welfare activities.
The directorate plays a major role in awarding scholarships and fellowships to students.
Students are eligible to apply for a scholarship if they have secured more that 75% in their 12th Std course and 70% in the entrance examination.
There is a special cell for the SC/ST students which sanctions fellowship and scholarships to students belonging to this category.

NSS Scheme

The National Service Scheme Wing provides training to the undergraduate students by organizing annual camps, national camps, and socially useful programs.
It also coordinates the adult literacy programs in which the students participate actively.
The NSS Wing has won a number of awards at the State and higher levels including the Best University in NSS.
Apart from the aforementioned initiatives, the students are eligible to apply for student educational loans from the University.

Infrastructure at Kuvempu university:

Library

The library is situated in a building of its own catering to the needs of students from various academic backgrounds, ranging from Science, Commerce, Humanities and Law. The extensive collection of books, journals, and research papers make this library one of the best in North Karnataka.
At present, the library has a collection of 1,16,745 books, 228 periodicals, and 2378 theses papers.
The library is also contributing to the success of UGC'S INFLINET and INFONET activities which is beneficial to the students as well.

Health centres:

The University has a decent health centre with all the modern medical equipment required to assist the students in- case of any medical emergency. There are both male and female doctors present at the health centre.
There is also a unit of Narayana Nethralaya that is situated within the campus along with an ambulance.

Sports Facilities.

The university gives paramount importance to physical education and sports. There is a well-equipped gymnasium and sports complex within the campus.
Inter-collegiate competitions are held for almost every sport, in which affiliated colleges take part. There is also a Director of Physical Education who supervises the sports activities.
The Indoor Sports- Complex has amenities to play volleyball, basketball, and other games. An outdoor sports complex is also under construction.

Hostel and Guest-House Facilities

There are two boy's and girl's hostels present within the campus.There is also a working women's hostel for research scholars and other post-graduate students. There is a special hostel for students who belong to the minority section of the society. This hostel is established near the main campus and is exclusively sponsored by the state government.
A state of the art guest house is present within the campus, overlooking the backwaters of the Bhadra Reservoir. It is air -conditioned with excellent catering facilities.

Canteens:

There is a well-furnished canteen within the campus. Catering facilities are available during the working hours of the university.
