The University of Mysore is one of the oldest Universities in India. Sri. Krishnaraja Wodeyar IV, the benevolent ruler of Mysore and Sir M.Visweswarayya, Engineer-Statesman and the then Dewan of Mysore, were the pioneers in establishing the University. The University came into existence on 27th July, 1916, as the sixth in the country and the very first in the erstwhile Princely State of Mysore.

Maharaja's College, which was the nucleus of the University, is now a Constituent College offering Undergraduate Programmes in Arts, Business Administration and Commerce; Post graduate Programmes M.Sc. Criminology & Forensic Science (2011-12 onwards), M.A. International Relations (2016-17 onwards), M.Sc. Geography (2018-19) and M.A. Political Science (2019-2020 onwards). It is also a Research Centre with 19 Doctoral Programmes (Ph.D.) offered.

Located a kilometre away from the heart of Mysuru city, the College is easily accessible by foot, by bus and by train. Situated amidst lush greenery spread over 34 acres, the built up area is 1.77 acres housing eight buildings.

The whole admission process for all the courses offered is offline and merit-based. Any candidate who fulfills the minimum eligibility criteria can take part in the admission process. Admission to all the courses is based on the marks scored by the applicant in the concerned qualifying examination.

Since this is a bachelor's programme, Maharaja's College offers Rangers placements after the third year, and it is advised that we continue our education. Interviewers were arranged with organizations and schools such as the Indian Museum, local government institutions, and businesses that needed historical knowledge. The sole criterion used for selection was academic standing. A lot of students choose to pursue master's degrees.
