National Institute of Technology Karnataka, Surathkal is located in Mangalore City, Karnataka State, India. The Institute was established as Karnataka Regional Engineering College (KREC) in 1960, and upgraded as National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK) in 2002. Mangalore is the headquarters of the coastal district of Dakshina Kannada, and boasts an important centre of education, business and trade in the state. Sri. U. Srinivasa Mallya, a visionary and a philanthropist, contributed immensely to the development of the coastal region of Karnataka, and his effort towards establishment of KREC (now NITK) is the most significant one. In recognition of his role as the founder and architect of the institute, the campus premises is named after him as Srinivasnagar.
Location
NITK is located on the coastal belt of Karnataka, on the National Highway 66, at about 22 kms from Mangalore towards Udupi. It lies close to Mangalore International Airport, Mangalore Railway Station and the Mangalore Port. Bus Routes from Mumbai, Goa and Bangalore (that terminate at Udupi-Manipal) pass through the College and visitors can disembark right away.

NITK Surathkal admission to more than 54 courses is done via various national level exams depending upon the course accepted by the institute. B.Tech is the flagship course at NITK Surathkal. This institute provides for a four-year B.Tech program in 9 specializations. Among all specializations offered, the most opted stream at the institute is Computer Science and Engineering (CSE). Admissions to the same are done on the basis of JEE Main scores followed by JoSAA Counseling. The JEE Main cutoff for CSE at NIT Karnataka ranges from 578-1002 for the general category. NITK Surathkal Charges a fee of INR 1.51 Lakhs per year for its B.Tech program.
With this, NIT Karnataka also offers admission for the Postgraduate programs such as M.Tech, M.Sc, MBA, MCA respectively based on the other national level examinations such as GATE, IIT JAM, CAT, NIMCET. Further this Institute also provides admission to PhD courses. Admission for the same is based on the entrance examination and interview conducted by NIT.

National Institute of Technology Karnataka Surathkal has a separate placement cell on campus named as Career Development Cell (CDC). The NITK Suathkal offers many placement opportunities for all levels of students. The NITK Surathkal placement drive is organised every year for final-year students on campus. The NIT Surathkal placement cell conducts training and grooming sessions for students to enhance their employability skills and confidence. The certification drive would be organised by the Career Development Centre (CDC) of the university. The placement team guides and trains the students for the NIT Surathkal Placements. The institute offers internships for students.
NITK Placement Procedure:
The career development centre will invite the companies for the placement drive programme.
The students need to submit the details asked by the NITK Surathkal placement cell.
Interested companies will visit the institute and conduct the pre-placement talks.
Companies begin the NIT Suathkal placement drive programme which includes tests, group discussions, interviews, and many others.
The companies finalise the students and send the offer letters to the NITK Surathkal placement cell.
NITK Surathkal placed 91% of BTech, 75% of MTech, 88% of MCA, and 76% of MBA students during the 2021-22 placement season. During NITK Surathkal placements in 2022. 1,350 students were successfully placed out of 1,626 eligible students. Overall, the placement rate was 86.1%. Furthermore, the highest package for BTech (IT) and MTech (IT) at NITK Surathkal in 2022 was INR 45 LPA. Besides that, the average package at NITK Surathkal for BTech (IT) and MTech (IT) was INR 13.12 LPA and INR 17.38 LPA, respectively.
placements. NIT Surathkal placements saw the overall highest package for undergraduate and postgraduate courses, at INR 45 LPA. In addition, the overall average salary package offered stood at INR 20.95 LPA. The median salary provided to the UG students was INR 10 LPA; for PG, two years and three years stood at INR 7.5 LPA and INR 7.9 LPA, respectively. The NIT Surathkal placements cell is diligent and works hard to provide the best employment opportunities to the students. In addition, the placement cell takes care of all placement-related activities like summer internship programmes, pre-placement lectures, skill enhancement workshops, and campus drives.
The official placement report of NIT Surathkal (data taken from NIRF report) 2022 states that 642 UG (4-year programme), 485 PG (2-year programme) students and 84 PG (3-year programme) students were placed. Thirty-two students from the UG and forty-seven students from the PG batches opted out of NIT Surathkal placements and pursued higher studies. Microsoft, Amazon, Google, Accenture, DE Shaw and Co, and Goldman Sachs are some of the top recruiters of NIT Surathkal.
Merit Cum Means Scholarship:
NIT Surathkal offers Merit Cum Means Scholarship to its top 50 meritorious students every year on the basis of merits scored by the students in the JEE Main exam.
The MCM Scholarship is only offered to the students whose annual family income is less than INR 4,50,000 and should have scored a minimum of 70% marks or above in their 10+2 examination.
Students are awarded a sum of INR 2000 per month as a Scholarship award.
Merit Scholarships:
Merit Scholarships at NIT Surathkal are only awarded to the top 5 students every year on the basis of their merits in JEE Main entrance examination.
In order to be eligible for the merit scholarship, a student should have scored a minimum of 90% marks or above in the 10+2 level examinations.
A sum of INR 10,000 is awarded per annum as a Scholarship award to the students.
Pradeep Gundappa Memorial Scholarship:
The Pradeep Gundappa Memorial Scholarship is offered on the basis of the merits scored by the students of NIT Surathkal in the JEE Main Entrance examination.
Students having annual family income less than INR 3,00,000 per annum and a minimum of 70% marks at 10+2 level are eligible to avail the facility of Pradeep Gundappa Memorial Scholarship.
Students are awarded a sum of INR 2000 for 8 semesters as a Scholarship Award.
For making the course approachable for students across diverse backgrounds, NITK Surathkal scholarships are offered to students. The primary aim of providing NIT Surathkal scholarships to the students is to help them pursue their higher education without any hindrance. Partnering with private and government institutes the National Institute of Technology Karnataka, Surathkal has been providing its applicants a number of financial aids namely- B R Samaga Scholarship for Second year B.Tech. students, Veeramma Rajashekaraiah scholarship only for Second year students, Pradeep Gundappa Scholarship, . I Year B.Tech. Merit Cum Means Scholarship and others. Students must meet National Institute of Technology Surathkal scholarships eligibility criteria to avail the scholarships offered by the university.

Sports Facilities: The college offers a full-fledged Physical Education & Sports Department offering various sports, games and physical fitness facilities. The infrastructure facilities are available in the sports centre for indoor and outdoor sports. In addition, an international-standard swimming pool is offered. The campus now boasts a new and sophisticated sports complex, inaugurated by the Honorable HRD Minister.
Library: The NITK library offers more than 135000 books, journals, magazines, newspapers, etc. The college offers web OPAC and a browsing facility for books and other library materials. The users can also log in to their account to check the due date of books issued to them and reserve the library materials online.
Health Care Centre: The NITK has a full-fledged health care centre to cater for the medical and health needs of the campus residents and students. The centre provides state of the art facilities, ambulance support and visiting specialists.
Post Office: The NITK Surathkal campus has a post office that caters for the mail-related services of the residents.
Shopping Centres: The college offers two shopping centres which include students’ and employees’ cooperative societies, bakery, vegetable shop, cloth shop, tailoring, saloon, beauty parlour, laundry, printing press, provisional store, among others
Canteens: The NITK infrastructure has two canteens and four cafeterias that serve hygienic food.
Banks: Two banks (Canara bank and State bank of India) with ATM facilities are available on the campus.
Open Air Theatre: There is an open-air theatre in the college that can accommodate around 1000 students.
Silver Jubilee Auditorium: The college has an auditorium with a seating capacity of 1,200 students.
Hostels: The NITK hostel offers accommodation facilities for both boys and girls. It can accommodate more than 4500 students at a time. There are 12 hostel blocks for boys, 5 hostel blocks for girls with power backup and an international hostel facility. It has a reading room and multiple dining halls that provide several cuisines for students. All hostel rooms are equipped with an internet connection. Students actively participate in the management of hostels and dining halls. A central laundry facility is also available in the hostels.
