NIE Institute of Technology (NIEIT), Mysore

 
The NIE Institute of Technology is a private Technical Institute located in Mysore.  It was established in 1946 and granted autonomy in 2007 from Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belagavi. NIEIT is managed by a registered society and nine out of ten current directors are distinguished alumni of the institute.  It is one of the 14 colleges in Karnataka that has been recognized under MHRD-World Bank sponsored Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme (TEQIP) in all the three phases.

 
NIEIT operates from 2 Campuses - South Campus situated on Manandavadi Road, Vidyaranyapura, Mysuru, Karnataka and North Campus located at No.50 (Part), Koorgalli village, Hootagalli Industrial Area, Mysuru, Karnataka.  The South Campus set in 12 acres of land is located approximately 2 km to Ashokapuram Railway Station. The Mysore City Bus Stand is 3.5 km away and the Mysore Airport is about 10 km from the college.

 
NIE Institute of Technology is affiliated to VTU, Belagavi and is approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi.  It has been accredited by NAAC and NBA.  All the Departments of NIEIT are recognized as Research Centre under VTU and AICTE for QIP.  The Institute is a grant-in-aid institution and has been recognized and approved by UGC, New Delhi and Government of Karnataka.  NIE is been ranked in the band of 151 to 200, among top engineering colleges in the country that include IITs and NITs as per National Institution Ranking Framework (NIRF-2023) announced by Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD). It is ranked 17th among India’s top Engineering Colleges, as per survey conducted by The Week.

 
Currently, NIEIT offers UG, PG and Doctoral programs in two Campuses i.e. NIE North Campus and NIE South Campus. The courses offered at North Campus are   Computer Science & Engineering, Information Science & Engineering, Computer Science & Engineering (Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning), and Master of Computer Applications.  Mechanical, Civil, Electrical & Electronics, Electronics & Communications, BE, MTech and MCA programs are offered in South Campus.  Candidates clearing CET/COMEDK/JEE entrance examinations KCET conducted by Karnataka Examinations Authority are eligible for admissions to UG courses. PG admissions are offered to candidates who hold a BE/B.Tech degree from a recognised board and also a valid score in GATE, Karnataka PGCET. Admissions to Ph.D courses are offered to candidates who hold a Master’s degree from a recognised board.  NIEIT subscribes to the directives of the Government of Karnataka and AICTE every academic year while granting admissions.

 
For those candidates who have performed exceptionally but may not have the resources to pursue an education at NIEIT, There is a scholarship program that can cover a portion of the tuition fee.

 
NIE Institute of Technology provides various facilities to the students which include well-stocked Library, modern Classrooms, Sports facilities, Medical facilities and many more essential infrastructural amenities.

 
Faculty has been the main strength of NIEIT.  They impart their vast knowledge to the students by using conventional methods of teaching-learning process as well as contemporary ones.

 
To enrich Research and Consultancy activities, 15 Centers of Excellence have been set up in collaboration with Industries and Alumni.  These Centers provide opportunities for students to fine tune their skills as per the expectation of Industries and offer Consultancy Services.  Many funded Research projects of Central & State Governments, VTU and Overseas Universities are presently being carried out at NIEIT.

 
The campus life at NIEIT is complemented by quality housing for boys and girls.  The Sports and Cultural activities at NIEIT are the high point of campus life,providing the right ambience for all round development of the students coupled with Academic rigor.

 
NIEIT Career Guidance Cell provides for establishing Career Guidance Cell in assisting students in realizing their aptitudes/potential, training them to hone and supplement their aptitudes/potentials, match them with the available careers and bring in Companies to select them and place them. The robust NIEIT Training and Placement Cell benefits the student immensely with all its Placement activities. However, the work of Career Guidance Cell will precede the work of Training and Placement Cell and will fill in the gap of helping the students to understand their potentials and matching them to needs and expectations of the industry.  The graduates are routinely placed in some of the biggest and most iconic technology companies in the world.

Placement Highlights 

Since the academic year 2021-22 we had the privilege of being visited by 450+ companies including 260+ IT companies and 150+ core companies each year. A total of 3126 students have been placed through campus recruitment in the last five years. We had the good fortune of being visited by core companies specific to each domain such as Applied Materials, SABRE, ABB LTD., Mercedes Benz and LARSEN & TOUBRO LTD for Mechanical and Industrial & Production, BROADCOM & NATIONAL INSTRUMENTS for Electrical & Electronics and Electronics & Communication, TCS, WIPRO for Computer Science and also by many dream companies to name a few, such as CISCO, VMWARE, INTUIT, IBM, AMAZON, TWILIO, GOOGLE, SAP LABS and MICROSOFT.

Hostel

“The home, away from home” keeping this concept in mind, the hostel was designed to support all the essentials. The NIE boys' hostel which is situated behind the administration block provides all the modern amenities to students for a comfortable stay at the campus. Renovated in August 2018, the hostel has a total area of 72,920 sq.ft with four floors and the capacity to accommodate 486 students.

From an open-air amphitheater for cultural events and celebrations, a fully-equipped gym facility, WiFi access, a common lobby where students can read newspapers and magazines, separate room for watching TV, washing machines on each floor, and hot water geysers with 24 hours water supply.

The hostel kitchen is well-stocked and has a multi-cuisine option with a different menu each day. On alternate days, snacks and fruits are available. The college has a strict dress code and anti-ragging policy and does not tolerate any action that endangers the well-being of students. In line with this, an anti-ragging squad comprising faculty members from across departments was formed to ensuring student safety and zero ragging activities within the hostel.

Library and Information Centre, NIE is one of the best engineering college libraries among engineering college in the state. It started its function with a vision to serve the students and faculty with information needed for them. It mainly holds books related to engineering and allied subjects. The National Institute of Engineering established its library in the year 1946. The library collection is more than lakh volumes. The library has rich collection of Abstracts, Dictionaries, Yearbooks, Textbooks, , Encyclopaedias and other General books including Kannada novels. The library is also subscribing for more than 54 Technical Journals, 30 general magazines and has full text online database like IEEE ( ASPP+PoP), ASCE, ASME, Springer, Elsevier, Taylor and Francis, Emerald (Publishing) , Emerald (Business)  ProQuest ( e-Journals) , Lanquill,( Writing grammar Tool), MAP Systems: Cloud hosted Remote Access services, Turnitin (Plagiarism Check Service)

Library & Information Centre provides uncompromising information and intellectual requirements to its students and faculty with a user-friendly approach. It offers a fully integrated and dynamic environment for conducting academic study. Multiple copies of text books ensure that resources are easily available in Reference Section and Stock Section. Besides, it provides Lending of books and journal back volumes, photocopying, CD/DVD and Internet services, etc

Library has adopted open access system, and maintains OPAC. The library is using Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC) for classification of documents and AACR-II modified for catalogue system for catering to the needs of the students, faculty and research scholars.

Digital Library with multimedia facility (20 Systems) accesses the e-Journals, e-books, NPTEL videos and other education materials. Library is fully computerized using LIBSOFT Web based Library Software. Students and staffs can access the library resources by sitting at home visiting the link http://library.nie.ac.in/opac . In all NIE Library & Information Centre has all modern facilities required for a college library.

SPORTS AND GAMES
NIE always encourages sports in big way. In fact, the ideals of NIE founders that sports should be a part of engineering education has been maintained even today. The department caters to almost 23 disciplines of Sports and Physical Education for both Men and Women. It has excellent State-of-the-art Infrastructure for indoor Sports and provides excellent facilities in terms of equipment. This is reflected in NIE being ranked among top ten Institutions in VTU Sports and Cultural activities. It has won Rs.1.00 Lakh Cash Award from VTU three times in fifteen Years 2002-2003, 2008-2009, 2013-2014 and 2018-19. (Eligibility only once a five academic years for top ten Institutions affiliated to VTU) through its excellent performance in Sports activities.
