About

Nitte (Deemed-to-be University) has its roots in a group of Institutions established by the Nitte Education Trust. The Trust was established in 1979 by one of India’s respected Statesman, Late Justice KS Hegde, Supreme Court Judge and Speaker of Lok Sabha, with the mission of empowering rural youth through quality education and healthcare. The Trust has established 36 institutions spread in three campuses at Nitte, Mangalore and Bangalore. It offers education in diverse areas of learning including health professions education, engineering, management, humanities, general education, vocational training, and school/pre-university education.

AB Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences (ABSMIDS), one of the colleges of the Nitte Education Trust, then affiliated to Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, was declared to be a “Deemed to be University” by Ministry of Human Resource Development on 4th June 2008. In the subsequent year (2009) KS Hegde Medical Academy (KSHEMA), Nitte Gulabi Shetty Memorial Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (NGSMIPS), Nitte Usha Institute of Nursing Sciences (NUINS) and Nitte Institute of Physiotherapy (NIPT) also came under the ambit of the newly formed Deemed-to-be University. Nitte Institute of Communication (NICO) was established in 2012, Nitte University Centre for Science Education and Research (NUCSER) in 2013 and Nitte Institute of Architecture (NIA) in 2015. In 2021, Nitte Institute of Speech and Hearing (NISH) became the most recent addition to the University.

The University offers a total of 74 programs in the disciplines of medicine, allied health sciences, dentistry, pharmacy, nursing, physiotherapy, speech and audiology, biological sciences, media & communication and Architecture. It has 4600+ students, 575 faculty members and 2175 support staff on roll. The University campuses are spread over 52 acres in Deralakatte-Paneer areas of Mangalore.

The University received A+ Grading in NAAC accreditation in 2021. It has been consistently placed in the Top 65-80 rank band in NIRF. The University is placed in the 401 to 450 Rank Band in the QS Rankings for Asia Region. It has received Diamond rating in the QS I-Gauge India Ratings. The Constituent colleges of the university have good standing in their disciplines in the NIRF rankings. Admission Procedure

NITTE Mangalore Admission Process and Important Dates 2024. The mode of NITTE course admission is online. Admission to various courses is based on merit and entrance exam scores. The accepted entrance exams are MAT, XAT, CAT, KMAT, Karnataka PGCET, NUCAT, and others.

• For Medical (MBBS / BDS):

  • Eligibility: Pass 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, Biology; minimum aggregate (commonly 50% or as per norms) + valid NEET-UG score.

  • Other allied courses (PharmD, BPharm, BPT, etc.) follow respective eligibility criteria (10+2 + required subjects).

• For Engineering / Architecture / B.Arch / Design / Tech courses: 10+2 with specified subject combinations (PCM/PCB) + entrance requirements (if applicable).

• For Management / Commerce / Science / Allied Courses: Merit-based on 10+2 scores, or entrance/aptitude tests where required.

• PG / Diploma / PhD courses: Eligibility depends on undergraduate degree in relevant stream + entrance or internal evaluation where applicable.

Eligibility Criteria

• Candidates must have completed 10+2 (Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English) with a minimum of 50% marks (40% for reserved categories).
  
• Must qualify in the NEET-UG examination conducted by NTA.

Placement

Abhyuday-The Department of Counselling, Welfare, Training & Placement consists of a Department Head, a full-time Counsellor, an Office Superintendent, Placement Executive, Faculty coordinators, committed Staff and student volunteers who work towards student well-being. Campus recruitment first began in 1994 with Kirloskar Snydergenral as the first company to visit campus to recruit two students. Now the numbers have skyrocketed to 200+ companies visiting the campus and making 1200 +job offers to our students.

The Department conducts programs that help the students enhance their knowledge and equip themselves with industry-relevant skills and technology. Soft skills training is arranged to help the students ace the selection process and give them a superior edge in the competitive job markets. Non-placed students are assisted with placements for a year after their graduation through 'Off-Campus' initiatives and referrals.

Team Abhyuday does everything positively possible to help students get placed in their dream job by using and creating internal resources, and engaging students in volunteering activities throughout their campus stay. The Alumni generously & readily share their knowledge, skills and expertise, whenever sought. The team has been proactive in placing students through the years. Orientation programs for fresh entrants, training programs in leadership, public speaking, effective communication and mock interviews are conducted regularly, thereby preparing students for placements.

NMAMIT has collaborated with various reputed Japanese Organizations to provide career opportunities in international markets. These collaborations started with MoUs with the University of Miyazaki and Ritsumeikan University since 2013, with the exchange of students, faculty and internship, including higher studies in Japanese Universities. The activities include Sakura-Science programs.

The Japanese industry-related activities started in 2019, with leading Japanese companies taking the final year students for internship, leading to hiring. During the first year, we could place 12 freshers in these companies and the placement slowed down in 2020 and 2021. As of now, we have a total of 35 placements in various Japanese companies, and the prediction for the coming year is 50+.

Foreign languages are also taught in the college to make the students globally attractive. From 2019, the Japanese Language is being taught to interested students by experts who possess living and work experience in Japan. Facilities Offered @ NITTE University, Mangalore

A Child Day Care Centre (Crèche) facility is available at Nitte (Deemed to be University) for children of below 10 years of age, when their parents (University employees/students) are at work or pursuing academics. The crèche, located in the Hospital building, is away from hazards such as traffic, staircases and lifts and is easily accessible for the parents to drop their children. It provides a child-friendly environment with colorful posters, play materials, black board, multimedia provisions and provide a fun and safe atmosphere. Children are encouraged to play and partake in guided activities during their time there.

NitteDU is a women-friendly campus. Traditionally, the University has had a strong presence of women in both its student and staff communities. Women are well represented in all programs offered by NitteDU. In 2019, the entry rate of women in the programs of the University ranged from 51% to 100%. Overall, women constitute 67% of the student strength and 72% of the workforce. The University has seen women in senior academic and administrative positions like that of the Registrar, Controller of Examinations, Director Research and Development, Principals and Vice-principals of Constituent colleges and as Department Heads.

The Libraries of the University act as the hub of learning resources for the constituent colleges. In total, 51,000 SqFt of carpet area is available for library services. Qualified librarians and adequate staff are appointed to ensure smooth functioning. The library services acquire, organize and provide access toresources in all formats necessary to support the education mission of the University. The books and journals collection supports all programs taught and research activities carried out at the University. An Integrated Library Management System provides efficient tracking and utilization of resources.

Transport

A fleet of buses and vans are maintained in the campus to provide transport facilities to the students and staff, free of cost NITTE runs its own fleet of buses and vans to facilitate free transport for students and staff across campus, hostel, hospitals and academic blocks.
