What is GATE 2026 Response Sheet, Provisional Answer Key, and Final Answer Key?

The conducting authority releases the GATE answer key in three formats as explained below:

GATE response sheet 2026

This is the official document that contains the responses marked by candidates during the examination.

GATE 2026 provisional answer key

This is the initial official answer key published by the authorities containing the correct responses.

GATE 2026 final answer key

The final answer key is issued after reviewing all objections submitted by candidates.

GATE 2026 Marking Scheme: How to Calculate Scores Using the Provisional Key

To compute your GATE 2026 score, candidates must understand the marking scheme. As per the exam pattern, negative marking is applicable in GATE 2026:

For 1-mark MCQs

• 1/3 mark will be deducted for each incorrect answer

For 2-mark MCQs

• 2/3 mark will be deducted for each incorrect answer

There is no negative marking or partial marking for MSQs and NAT questions.

How to Challenge the GATE 2026 Answer Key?

Candidates who wish to raise objections against the provisional answer key can follow the steps below:

• Visit the official website and access candidate login 2026

• Enter your enrolment ID and password

• Click on the provisional answer key link with the “raise objection” option

• Select the question and submit a valid explanation along with a detailed solution

• Upload supporting documents, if required

• Pay the prescribed fee and submit the objection

• Download and save a copy for future reference

What Happens After the Release of GATE 2026 Official Answer Key?

Once candidates submit their objections, the authorities will examine the responses carefully. If the challenge is found valid, the correction will be incorporated into the final answer key. The GATE 2026 final answer key will be published along with the result on March 19. Candidates should note that the final answer key cannot be challenged under any circumstances.
