NMC Extends Deadline to Upload First-Year MBBS Admission Data for 2025–26 Session; Colleges Get Time Until March 31: New Delhi: The National Medical Commission (NMC) has extended the deadline for medical colleges across India to upload the details of students admitted to the first-year MBBS course for the academic year 2025–26. According to the latest notification, institutions now have until March 31, 2026 (midnight) to submit the required admission data on the official NMC portal.

The extension has been granted to allow medical colleges additional time to complete the process of uploading accurate admission information and ensure full compliance with regulatory requirements related to MBBS admissions.

Deadline Extended for Uploading MBBS Admission Details

The Undergraduate Medical Education Board (UGMEB) under the NMC issued the notice informing all medical colleges and institutions to upload details of students admitted to the first year of the MBBS programme for the 2025–26 academic session on the NMC admission portal by the revised deadline.

Initially, institutions were required to submit the data earlier, but several colleges sought more time to complete the process and update accurate information. In response to these requests, the commission decided to extend the timeline.

The move aims to ensure that all colleges submit comprehensive and verified student information, which is crucial for maintaining transparency and regulatory oversight in medical education.

Why the Data Submission Is Important

Uploading admission data on the NMC portal is a mandatory compliance requirement for all medical colleges in India. The system enables the commission to track MBBS admissions and ensure that institutions do not exceed their sanctioned intake capacity.

The requirement is linked to the “Criteria for Identification of Students Admitted in Excess of Admission Capacity of Medical College Regulations, 1997.” It also follows directives issued by the Supreme Court of India aimed at improving transparency and accountability in medical admissions.

Through this monitoring system, authorities can verify whether admissions are conducted according to established norms and through the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET-UG) merit-based process.

Information Colleges Must Upload

Medical colleges are required to upload detailed information about every student admitted to the first-year MBBS course through the NMC’s online admission monitoring module. The data generally includes:

  • Candidate’s NEET roll number and rank

  • Marks obtained in NEET-UG

  • Category and personal details

  • Date of admission

  • Fee details and admission quota

  • Other institutional and regulatory information related to the admission process.

This digital tracking mechanism allows the regulator to cross-verify admissions and maintain an accurate national database of MBBS students.

Large Number of Medical Colleges and Seats

India’s medical education sector has expanded rapidly in recent years. There are over 820 medical colleges in the country with more than 1.29 lakh MBBS seats, including newly approved institutions and expanded capacities.

With such a large number of institutions, the NMC relies on its online admission monitoring portal to ensure that all admissions are conducted in accordance with approved seat capacities and regulatory guidelines.

Penalties for Non-Compliance

The NMC has made it clear that institutions must comply with the admission data submission requirement within the revised timeline. Failure to do so or providing incorrect information may attract strict regulatory action.

Possible penalties may include:

  • Heavy financial penalties on institutions

  • Cancellation of admissions made beyond sanctioned capacity

  • Discharge of irregularly admitted students

  • Restrictions or bans on future admissions in serious cases.

What the Extension Means for Medical Colleges

The revised deadline offers relief to many institutions that were still in the process of completing documentation and verifying admission records. By providing additional time, the NMC aims to ensure that colleges submit complete, accurate, and verified admission data without procedural lapses.

Medical colleges are now expected to utilize the extended timeline and update all required details on the portal before March 31, 2026, to remain compliant with NMC regulations.
