The Consortium of National Law Universities (NLUs) has confirmed that the next round of seat allotment results will be published on January 22 on the official website, consortiumofnlus.ac.in. For CLAT 2026, a total of five rounds of counselling will be conducted to allocate seats across both undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) law programmes.
Top NLUs have continued to demand exceptionally high ranks. Following NLSIU Bengaluru, NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad closed its general category seats at AIR 148, while WBNUJS Kolkata concluded admissions at AIR 284 in the first round.
Candidates who were allotted seats in Round 1 were required to pay a non-refundable confirmation fee by 1:00 pm on January 15 to retain their allotted seat. Those who completed this step will be considered for the second allotment list, scheduled for release on January 22 for all law programmes.
After each allotment round, candidates are required to exercise one of the following options:
- Freeze: Accept the allotted seat and exit further rounds.
- Float: Retain the current seat while remaining eligible for higher-preference options in subsequent rounds.
- Exit: Withdraw from the counselling process entirely.
During the application process, candidates were mandated to select a minimum of 15 NLU preferences for UG programmes and at least 5 preferences for PG programmes.
