Is BITSAT the Hardest Among India’s Private Engineering Entrance Tests?: Every year, a large number of students take part in private engineering entrance examinations such as BITSAT, VITEEE, SRMJEEE, KIITEE and AEEE. Among these, BITSAT is frequently regarded by both students and academic experts as the toughest private engineering entrance exam. But does this perception truly reflect reality? Let’s take a closer look.

Engineering aspirants across India usually attempt multiple entrance  examinations at the same time to improve their chances of securing admission to leading institutions. Besides national-level tests like JEE Main and several state-level entrance exams, students also opt for private university entrance tests such as BITSAT, VITEEE, KIITEE, and SRMJEEE.

Since these exams are organised by different institutions, their difficulty levels vary considerably. According to a Shiksha poll with around 1.9k participants, 63% of voters considered BITSAT to be the toughest, followed by VITEEE with 16% votes,AEEE with 10%, SRMJEEE with 6%, and KIITEE with 4%. Read further to understand why BITSAT is often labelled the most challenging and how it compares with other private engineering entrance examinations.

Why BITSAT Is Considered the Toughest?

BITSAT is known for its distinctive exam pattern and intense competition. The test consists of 130 questions that must be completed within three hours. To perform well, candidates require not only strong conceptual clarity but also excellent speed across five sections.

Another factor that raises the difficulty level is negative marking. In BITSAT, one mark is deducted for each incorrect answer, forcing students to carefully balance speed and accuracy. In comparison, several other private engineering entrance exams either do not have negative marking or include relatively easier questions.

Comparison with Other Private Engineering Exams

Below is a comparison of the difficulty level of BITSAT with VITEEE, SRMJEEE, KIITEE and AEEE.

VITEEE

VITEEE is widely regarded as the second most difficult private engineering entrance exam. The overall difficulty level is generally moderate when compared to BITSAT. Questions in VITEEE typically focus more on fundamental concepts rather than complex application-based problems and rarely include highly complicated questions.

AEEE

The AEEE exam, conducted by Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, is also considered competitive. However, its difficulty level is generally regarded as lower than BITSAT and VITEEE.

SRMJEEE

SRMJEEE is usually perceived as easier than both BITSAT and VITEEE. The exam contains sections on Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, English, and Aptitude, but the questions are often comparatively simple. It is also conducted as a remotely proctored examination, which many students feel reduces mental pressure during the test.

KIITEE

The KIITEE exam, conducted by Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology, is generally reported by students to have a relatively easy difficulty level compared to other private engineering entrance tests.

Why BITSAT Continues to Be Highly Preferred

Despite being considered tougher, BITSAT continues to remain one of the most sought-after private engineering entrance exams. One major reason is that it offers admission to prestigious campuses such as BITS Pilani in Pilani, Goa, and Hyderabad. These institutes are known for their excellent placement records, strong academic reputation, and global recognition.

For many students aiming for top private engineering colleges after JEE Main, BITSAT is often considered thebest alternative pathway.

At present, the BITSAT 2026 registration process is underway and will close on March 16, 2026. Candidates who have not yet applied should complete the online application process at admissions.bits-pilani.ac.in as soon as possible.
