The decision comes as welcome news for thousands of students aspiring for admission to engineering, pharmacy, and other professional courses in Karnataka, many of whom were worried about losing their chance to participate in the counselling process due to missing the initial deadline.
Initial Option Entry Window Closed on June 30
The Karnataka Examinations Authority recently concluded the first phase of option entry and choice filling for admissions to professional courses under UGCET/KCET 2026.
Candidates were required to submit their preferred colleges and courses by June 30, 2026. However, a significant number of students could not complete the process due to various reasons, leading to anxiety among aspirants and their parents regarding their eligibility to participate in counselling.
KEA Assures Students: ‘No Need to Panic’
Addressing the concerns of students and parents, H. Prasanna, IAS, Executive Director of the Karnataka Examinations Authority, clarified that candidates who missed the first deadline would not be excluded from the counselling process.
The official statement emphasised that there is no need for panic, as the authority has planned to open a fresh option-entry window immediately after the mock allotment results are announced.
The assurance has significantly eased concerns among candidates who feared that missing the initial deadline would permanently affect their admission prospects.
Fresh Option Entry Window After Mock Allotment Results
According to an official update posted by the Karnataka Examinations Authority on its social media platform X (formerly Twitter), candidates who have not yet entered their options will receive another opportunity after the release of the first mock seat allotment results.
The authority stated that:
- Candidates who failed to submit options by June 30 will be allowed to enter their choices again.
- Students who have already submitted their preferences will also be able to modify, rearrange, add, or delete their choices based on the mock allotment outcome.
- The fresh option-entry period is intended to ensure fairness and provide all candidates an equal opportunity to participate in the counselling process.
Why Mock Allotment Is Important
The mock seat allotment process gives students a tentative idea of the colleges and courses they may receive based on:
- Their UGCET ranks
- Category and reservation criteria
- Preferences entered during option filling
- Seat availability in participating institutions
After viewing the mock allotment results, candidates usually revise their choices strategically before the actual seat allotment rounds commence.
By reopening the option-entry window after the mock allotment, KEA aims to help candidates make informed decisions and improve their chances of securing preferred seats.
Major Relief for Engineering and Pharmacy Aspirants
The announcement is particularly significant for students seeking admission to:
- Engineering programmes
- Pharmacy courses
- Architecture and other professional programmes covered under UGCET/KCET counselling
Thousands of aspirants who could not complete the option-entry process by the original deadline now have another opportunity to participate fully in the admission process without losing their chances.
What Candidates Should Do Now
Candidates are advised to:
- Regularly monitor the official KEA portal for updates on mock allotment results.
- Keep their login credentials ready.
- Prepare a priority list of preferred colleges and courses in advance.
- Carefully review the mock allotment outcome before modifying their options during the second window.
KEA has reiterated that students who missed the first deadline need not worry, as the fresh option-entry facility will ensure that no deserving candidate is deprived of the opportunity to participate in the counselling process.
