Following the disruption, the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) confirmed that the examination process had been affected at two centres in Jaipur, Rajasthan. The Board attributed the logistical problems to TCS, the examination conducting agency, and announced that a retest for the affected candidates will be held at 3 PM on September 5, 2026, in Jaipur.

The incident has also prompted questions about the adequacy of infrastructure and whether essential examination protocols were properly checked before the NEET PG examination was conducted.

Over 2,000 Candidates Affected at Jaipur Examination Centres

The NEET PG examination was held on August 30, 2026, for candidates seeking admission to various postgraduate medical programmes. However, candidates at two centres located at iON Digital Zone iDZ Sitapura in Jaipur, Rajasthan, faced major difficulties during the examination.

According to the information provided by NBEMS, the examination could not be completed at the affected Jaipur centres because of an internal power failure at the examination venue.

The Board stated that the disruption at the centres was linked to issues attributed to M/s TCS Ltd, which was serving as the examination conducting agency.

Apart from the electricity-related problems, some candidates also reported experiencing computer and technical glitches during the examination.

NBEMS Announces NEET PG Retest on September 5

Expressing regret over the inconvenience faced by the affected candidates, the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences announced a special re-examination for those who could not complete their test because of the disruption.

The affected candidates will be allowed to appear for the NEET PG retest at 3 PM on September 5, 2026, in Jaipur.

NBEMS has stated that further information regarding the examination venue will be communicated separately. The affected candidates will also receive revised admit cards containing the necessary details for the re-examination.

Candidates eligible for the retest are expected to receive further instructions from the examination authorities regarding the venue and other examination-related arrangements.

NEET PG 2026: Number of Registered and Appearing Candidates

According to NBEMS, a total of 2,73,096 candidates were registered for the NEET PG examination conducted on August 30, 2026.

The Board stated that 2,65,980 candidates appeared for the examination across 1,111 examination centres located across the country.

Out of the candidates who appeared, 2,63,535 candidates successfully completed the examination.

The disruption at the Jaipur centres therefore affected a significant number of candidates who were unable to complete their examination because of circumstances related to power and technical infrastructure.

Questions Raised Over Centre Preparedness and Basic Facilities

The Jaipur incident has generated concerns about whether examination centres had adequate infrastructure and whether the necessary checks were completed before the conduct of such a major national-level examination.

Prof. Rajeev Kumar, a retired faculty member from the Department of Computer Science at IIT Kharagpur, expressed concern over the reported disruptions.

He pointed out that an adequate power backup should be considered a fundamental requirement for an examination centre. According to him, the problems reported by candidates indicated possible shortcomings in verifying whether basic facilities and required infrastructure were properly available at the centres before the examination.

He also referred to reports of both technical problems and power failures, raising concerns about the level of due diligence undertaken to ensure that examination protocols were followed properly.

Prof. Kumar emphasised that responsibility should be identified and appropriate accountability should be established in connection with the disruption.

The NEET PG examination disruption was not the only recent incident involving power-related problems at an examination centre in Jaipur.

On August 22, the All India Ayush Post Graduate Entrance Test, conducted by the National Testing Agency, was also disrupted because of a power failure at a Jaipur examination centre.

In that incident, the NTA attributed responsibility for the disruption to Eduquity Career Technologies Private Limited, the service provider involved in the examination process.

The occurrence of examination disruptions linked to infrastructure and power problems has increased attention on the importance of reliable arrangements, uninterrupted electricity supply, technical preparedness and clear accountability at centres conducting large-scale entrance examinations.
