The National Medical Commission (NMC) has updated the NEET UG 2025-26 seat matrix, reflecting the total number of MBBS seats available across India. As of October 10, there are 1,26,600 MBBS seats in the country, including both renewed and newly sanctioned seats for the upcoming academic session.
For 2025 - 26, the NMC has approved 9,075 additional MBBS seats across India, excluding AIIMS and JIPMER institutions. Throughout the year, the seat matrix has undergone multiple revisions due to ongoing changes in the approval status of medical colleges. Aspirants are advised to check the revised seat matrix carefully and follow the updated schedule released by the NMC.
InAndhra Pradesh, Santhiram Medical College, Nandyal, has expanded its
intake from 150 to 250 seats, while Anna Gowri Medical College and Hospital has
received permission to start with 150 seats. Similarly, Tamil Nadu,
Maharashtra, and Karnataka have also seen an increase in the number of MBBS
seats, creating more opportunities for aspiring doctors. Conversely, Delhi’s
Hamdard Institute of Medical Sciences and Research has seen a reduction of 150
seats.

In September, the NMC approved 6,850 new seats while removing over 1,056 due to
pending litigations, delays in renewals, and other administrative issues. About
ten days later, another update followed - adding 7,375 more seats and removing
456. This revision came after the Cabinet approved the creation of 10,000
additional MBBS seats under Phase 3 of the Centrally Sponsored Scheme (CSS).
MCC Round 3 Counselling
Meanwhile, the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has extended the deadline
for choice filling in NEET UG 2025 Round 3 counselling to October 13, 2025.
Candidates yet to lock their choices should complete the process on the
official website, mcc.nic.in. The Round 3 seat allotment results are
expected to be released by October 15, 2025.
