Academy of Maritime Education and Training (AMET), established in 1993, is a Maritime Educational Academy situated in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, serenely located on the scenic ECR driveway over-looking the deep blue Bay of Bengal. It is a technology-oriented institute for higher education, which was regarded as a University under section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956. This institute offers UG, PG, Ph.D., and various other courses in streams of Engineering, and Maritime Education & Training.

The articulate visionary Dr Janakiraman Ramachandrani is the President of AMET Trust in Chennai. With a humble beginning of just 14 cadets molded for a career in merchant navy, AMET expanded rapidly through a Higher National Diploma Programme in Marine Engineering. With Quality, Commitment, Knowledge and Excellence as its corner stones, AMET’s uncompromising strides of excellence in the field of maritime education and training, laced with its capacity to feed the global shipping industry with an unrivalled maritime human resource, secured it the status of becoming the first Deemed-to-be University in India for maritime related Education, Training, Research and Development activities on the 21st August 2007.  It also happens to be the one and only University from India to be a Member of the International Association of Maritime Universities.
AMET serves as an ocean of knowledge for over 3500 students pursuing Programmes ranging from Diploma to Doctoral programs through the excellent teaching/guidance of Faculty of Maritime Studies, Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Faculty of Advanced Computing Science, Faculty of Management Studies, Faculty of Commerce, Faculty of Life Sciences, Faculty of Liberal Arts, Faculty of Science and Humanities, related to Marine and General Sector Programmes.

The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) an autonomous institution of the University Grants Commission has assessed AMET and accredited with an A Grade during September 2021. The accreditation is an indication of standards of quality as set by the NAAC and valid for a period of five years from 13-09-2021.

Admission Procedure

The AMET Admission Department is responsible for managing the admissions process for prospective students seeking admission to the University. The Department coordinates the application process, reviews applications, conduct entrance exam and makes admission decisions through the proper channel based on academic qualifications, ACET Rank (AMET Common Entrance Test), and other criteria. The Admission Department also provides information and guidance to prospective students about the University, the application process, academic requirements, Scholarship assistance, Guidance for Education loans, and other related matters. We conduct campus tours and information sessions to help students make informed decisions about attending the university. The Admission Department works closely with other Departments within the University to ensure that the admissions process is efficient and effective. Overall, the Admission Department plays a crucial role in attracting and enrolling qualified students to the University, and in promoting the AMET’s mission and values to the wider community.

Admission Criteria

B.E. Admission 2025

AMET University provide B.E as a flagship program under various specialisations, which are marine engineering, mechanical engineering, naval architecture and offshore engineering, electrical & computer Engineering. For admission in the B.E. program, candidates need to appear for AMET CET.

Eligibility

B.Tech - Candidate must have passed in 10 +2 with 50% in mathematics mandatory or computer science with mathematics. Valid scores in AMET CET.

MBA Admission 2025

AMET University provide an MBA program under two specialisations which are shipping & logistics management, hospital administration. For admission in the MBA program, Candidates need to appear for AMET CET or other management entrance exam.

Eligibility

MBA -  Candidate must have passed graduation with 50% marks. CAT / MAT / XAT / ATMA / JMET / TANCET scores will be accepted. If a candidate has not taken any of the above tests, then they need to appear for AMET CET followed by personal interview / group discussion.

• PM-Vidyalaxmi is a Unified Portal for the students to apply for education loan provided by scheduled commercial banks, co-operative banks, RRBs & private banks and submit applications for Educational Loan & Interest Subvention.

• Maritime Training Trust (MTT) of Directorate General of Shipping, (Ministry of Shipping, Govt. of India) has announced the Financial support of Rs.1,00,000/- per annum scholarship to all Indian Woman Seafarers who are undergoing pre-sea courses in the DGS approved Maritime Training Institutes (MTIs).
  

Shree Janakiraman Scholarship

AMET University is offering fees concessions to the Students from economically backward family who are not affordable to pay the fees regularly. Whenever the request for concession received from the Student and the same, submitted to Vice Chancellor for consideration. After a review of the application case by case, the application may place before the committee for approval and sanction the eligible amount. Candidate family annual income should not exceed Rs.2.00 lakhs. The Students who deserved to get financial help from the management may awarded this scholarship in the name of Shree Janakiraman.

Meritorious Student Scholarship

The University is awarding Meritorious Student Scholarship to the outstanding students who have secured more than 90% of marks in their Higher Secondary Examination. The eligible students will get 15% of Tuition fees as fees concession of course. The same may verified and submitted to Vice Chancellor. Candidate family annual income should not exceed Rs.2.00 lakhs. All applications may placed before the committee for recommendation and sanction.

First Graduate Fees Concession

As per the Government order Ms:No:85/Higher Education (J2) Department dt:16.04.10, First graduate fees concession are offered to the eligible candidates at the time of admission. The candidate can submit the joint declaration of parents and candidate along with the “No graduate Certificate” issued by the Revenue authority to avail the fees concession in the first year. Candidate family annual income should not exceed Rs.2.00 lakhs. The University is offering 15% of Tuition fees as fees concession to the first graduate eligible candidate at the first year.

Single Parent Scholarship

Single Parents Scholarship is entitled to the students who are deserted by parents either by death or divorce and they are economically poor to offer the course fees. The eligible Students can submit the application along with death certificate, Legal heir certificate or court proceedings of the parents which ever admissible. Candidate family annual income should not exceed Rs.2.00 lakhs. The applications are verified and sanctioned 15% of tuition fees as concession through this scholarship.

Girl Cadet Scholarship

In Order to encourage the girl students to pursue Marine education, the University is offering Fees concession to the female cadets/students @ 15% of Tuition fees. Candidate family annual income should not exceed Rs.2.00 lakhs. This fee concession allowed at the time of admission based on the request of the parent and the economic status of the family and the educational performance of the students.

Ex Servicemen Scholarship

The ward of Ex-servicemen, undergoing any courses in this University can apply for the Ex-servicemen Scholarship. The application for this scholarship must be accompanied with the relevant proof of document for Ex-servicemen issued by central government. Only authorized student can apply for this scholarship. Candidate family annual income should not exceed Rs.2.00 lakhs. 15% of the tuition is allowed to the eligible student at the time of admission.

Fishermen Scholarship

Candidate belongs to Fishermen community. Candidate family annual income should not exceed Rs.2.00 lakhs. 15% of the tuition is allowed to the eligible student at the time of admission.

AMET University, Kanathur

A state of the Art Polaris Bridge Simulator is being installed in our campus. Konsberg, Norway, leaders in Maritime and Offshore simulators are supplying the hardware and the software for this Simulator. This advanced equipment will add skills to our students to navigate ships of all classes, plan and conduct passage, determine location, use radar, respond to distress calls etc., all sitting in front of the Simulator powered by advanced technologyNo lesser in technology is the Neptune Engine Room Simulator which is also being simultaneously installed. This 21st Century simulator will provide the students Real Time / Hands On experience with Diesel Engine Plants. This Simulator along with the Bridge Simulator will replicate the activities of a real ocean sailing vessel.

Prof. V. B. S. Rajan Library is functioning in 2 floor, (stack section and reference section) The University library was called as George T.R. Campbell library and was again renamed as Prof. V.B.S. Rajan Library. The Central Library is situated in the Raja Raja Cholan building and the total area of the library is 21499.97 Sq.ft. The Library was inaugurated by Mr. Efthimos E. Metropouls, Chancellor, Secretary General Emeritus, International Maritime Organisation (IMO) on 4th September, 2014. it is Automated Library consisting Books, Periodicals, Dissertations, Back Volumes, Projects and e-journal facilities, etc.,

We are having wide collections of Books and Periodicals on Marine Engineering, Nautical Science, Management Studies, Information Technology, Marine Biotechnology, Naval Architecture, Harbour Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, English and General area of Studies.
