The college started functioning independently after bifurcation from DRM Science college in the year 1973 with a vision and forethought to provide extensive study opportunities in the field of arts, commerce and management to the aspiring students of local Davangere and the neighbouring districts in order to meet the socio economic and commercial needs of the society. The name of the donor AjjampuradaRangappaGovindaswamy is perpetuated by naming the college as ARG as a token of gratitude for his munificent donation. The college has been functioning strictly by adhering to its vision and mission objectives to satisfy the needs of both students, parents and other stakeholders of the society and thereby it has earned a very good reputation in the society. In order to keep pace with the changing times, the institution had undergone voluntarily for assessment and accreditation by NAAC in Aug, 2004 and got ‘B’ Grade,the second cycle in 2011 with B grade (CGPA 2.55) and in the third cycle during2017 the college got B+ grade with CGPA 2.63. A continued progress is achieved by the institution over the years.

During the post accreditation periods as per the guidelines of the UGC and NAAC the IQAC has been constituted for the better and effective functioning of the institution. Further, as per the NAACdirections, master plan with several committeesfor the subsequent years 2005-10, 2011-2016 and 2017-2022 respectively have been formed to implement the criteria wise recommendations through IQACfor better academic performance. As a result, many reformative measures have been taken and the major one is the opening of PG programme (M.Com) in 2013-14.

Vision

This oft-quoted saying depicted in the logo is taken from one of the vachanas of Basavanna; a social reformer of the 12th century, Karnataka. It emphasizes the fact that the abode of god or the emancipation in life can be attained by doing the assigned work sincerely and honestly. By continuous effort, one can attain one’s own goal in any field. Thereby total satisfaction or contentment can be attained. Higher education is one such field where continuous effort and concentration are required. The logo of the college symbolizes the continuous effort that is required in the socio-cultural and commercial field. The upper part of the logo represents art and architecture which requires concentration, dedication and perfection in work. The lower part of the logo represents industry, commerce and trade that require hectic activities, skills and knowledge. So, higher education intends to serve for the development of the community through art, architecture, knowledge and skills. Hence, the logo of the college obviously intends to meet the educational needs of the region and community as a whole.
